I was doing some building today with Ladders and Trapdoors and I came across a few issues. The first issue is the Trapdoor's hitbox, which forces you to be all the way to the opposite side of the Trapdoor in order to go through it. When climbing high up in an open area, this can easily lead to an accidental death. The other issue I see is that if you use a Trapdoor with Ladders above and below it and you are trying to climb up, you need to climb to the level the trapdoor is on (navigating past the hitbox issue above), stand on the block near it, then jump onto the Ladders above it. Sounds like a pain in the butt to me.
My suggested fixes:
When a Trapdoor is open, make so if you approach it from above or below it has a thinner hitbox, or put a slight angle at the bottom and top of the hitbox so that it pushes you to the other side as you climb. If you approach from the other directions it would behave normally.
If a Trapdoor has Ladders above or below it, make the open Trapdoor behave like a Ladder, allowing you to just keep climbing.
TL;DR: Make building something simple and useful like this:
suck less.
Edit: I decided to add a similar suggestion about regular Doors in regards to the hitbox thing. When you have a single Door, trying to go through it quickly when it is open can be challenging because you have such a small opening to move through. This makes running through to get away from mobs or because the Door is on a timer a huge pain, and usually results in people just running into the wall and sliding towards the opening until they get through. If open Doors had a slope in their hitbox similar to fix 1 above that made it easier to walk past that would be useful as well.

Support. I assume this works for the iron trapdoor, right?
The ability to be used as a ladder is really something Mojang should have done when they added trapdoors.
I honestly forgot there was an Iron Trapdoor. Yes it works for both.
I actually have a similar issue with regular Doors, how the hitbox gives you a tiny sliver of space to navigate through which is a pain when trying to flee some mobs or if the door is open for a short amount of time like with a Stone Button. Adding it to the OP.

Yeah, support. Kinda makes you wonder why it wasn't like this to begin with.

Yeah, that guy in the avatar is me. I'm *that* strange. It happens. Sometimes people act like that. Just go with it. I can offer help with suggestions even before you post them - NOT make your suggestions - but help you with them.
Thanks for the support guys. As much as I like big new things, it wouldn't hurt to improve this existing stuff at the same time.
