Well, I'm not the only one who wants this. The fanbase of consists of almost 60 million people, and if the entire fanbase was logged into mc forums, then these votes might change. Some people are content with what we already have, and some want more. One man's trash is another man's treasure.
Dude, you are being WAAAAYYY too optimistic with this suggestion. I mean I get it, despite how redundant this idea is, you want this suggestion to become a reality, but even something being popular doesn't make it a good idea. Herobrine was popular. Thirst bars were popular. It doesn't mean those ideas are good.
Edit: Okay, did you honestly quote yourself in your own sig? I just... wow.

After thinking on this, not a good idea. Mods, yes. Vanilla, no, just no.. There's just no use for them. When mojang adds stuff into Minecraft, they make sure that the items have real functionality. There's plenty of iron in a single cavern. Lapis would be a waste of time

What about granite? That has absolutely NO functionality. It's just for aesthetics. Plus, I don't even really care about this thread anymore, I just thought it would be a nice idea. I made a new suggestion that is nothing like this one. My most recent suggestion received a lot more support than this one.

Minecraft is not medieval-themed!!! As a matter of fact, it doesn't have a set time. And when and WHY did putting reponses in the quote, especially long ones, become a trend in the Suggestions? It's rather inconvenient, mainly since the OP has to gather your quote up manually. Avatar made by Endergirl!
Also chain, which is actually my favorite because of it's difficulty to get.
No, I meant armor/tools, not armor. There are 3 combos of armor/tools, as in tiers, iron tools/armor, golden tools/armor, and diamond tools/armor.

So, I really see no point to this. If you want something similar but better balanced, try the ores in Project Red - Exploration. As for this idea, right out of the gate there's poor balance(due to how common Lapis is), it's kind of pointless considering that Lapis has no terribly special qualities, and honestly, mods have filled this role better.
In fact, if you really want Lapis gear so much, you could always just make a mod for it. Making a mod can be much easier than you'd think. Especially for something so simple.

This is not a vague suggestion. Defense? It's defense capabilities lie in between iron and diamond. Durability? It's durability lies in between iron and diamond. Damage? In between iron and diamond. REDUNDANT??? I provided legitimate reasons why we need lapis tools and armor. And why do we need custom dimensions? So what you're saying is that we need custom dimensions, but we shouldn't renew the aging line of tiers?!? You must be joking.
Look, just because there CAN be a new tier, doesn't mean there should be. Now, I'm all down for re-balancing armor, and modifying armor, but let's be clear about this: it's redundant. Redundant mean it's been suggested too much.
*Also, you say that wikipedia says that lapis is harder than iron. Let me be clear here: Hardness doesn't matter if it's brittle. If you hit a suit of lapis armor, it would probably shatter into hundreds of hard pieces, and lapis wasn't known for being a STRONG material, just that the material was hard. Hard and strong aren't the same thing. No Support!

Lapis is a strong material, and people have crafted blades out of lapis. Also, I made another thread, which I like more. Lapis can be crafted into a powder, and the reason people think of lapis as weak, is because of the previous suggestions that made lapis tools/armor LOOK stupid, by not providing a description, or underestimating the strength of lapis lazuli. The pigment crafted from lapis lazuli is brittle, but the gemstone itself isn't This was my first thread on minecraft forums, and I haven't received a very warming welcome. Besides, it's not as if Minecraft is realistic. A real diamond sword would break easily. Higher hardness tends to mean more brittle, and Lapis is no different.

Off-topic slightly and I know people want this dead, but I wouldn't mind them giving it a little bit more use. I mean with clerics selling it and fortune 3, the amount of Lapis is purely endless in-game now. So it would make sense if they added more uses. Not the armor or weapons, but something other than enchanting and dying.

Really? You've been going whole-hog on realism for a while now. There was a reason you're even using Moh's scale to justify anything, and that was realism, wasn't it?
No, there isn't any aspect of realism here. Lapis is soft and brittle. While it may be harder to scratch than iron, it's easier to break. Your proposed armor and tools are actually in contradiction of realism.

Hey! Isn't diamond hardest on Moh's scale? They made that the hardest(I don't know if that has to do with the scale)! I'm not saying that I now support this, but you seriously take realism into consideration when thinking about MC ideas?
Dude, if you want "realism", then tell Mojang to remove floating islands, hard obsidian, all hostile mobs, and both alternate dimensions while you're at it!
Why don't people understand that logic has nothing to do with Minecraft? It's called a virtual game for a reason!!!
Okay, I may be getting a bit touchy on this, but man, it really bugs me when people get pissed off at suggestions that don't follow logic.
Actually realism and logic are not tied at the hip. Despite the lack of realism (Though many real life parallels can be drawn) fantasy worlds can have a ton of logic if you are able to shift your brain to think that way.
Magic isnt real at all, but if say, in a fantasy world, magic emanates from a source stone so you have to be close to it in order to cast spells. Bam, logic based on unrealistic things. (Though its kinda like wifi if you think about it).
Point being, even Minecraft has logic. Not real world logic, but logic of its own that DOES make sense... for Minecraft.

First of all, This HAS been suggested before! Lapis and emerald armor types are ridiculius! Why branch out a sandbox game armor system to try make it like diablo?! This is exactly like all the other suggestions! It has mining ores, crafting, and new weapons and armor! Montana has said myriads of times they will NOT add new armor types! Oh and herp derp lets just use a stupid decorating ore and block for killing players! i bet you don't realize that hardness is not even close to the only factor that makes a metal usable as a weapon. And who wants dark blue armor anyway? It'll look like crap! Besides, who wants an armor set that is weaker than diamond, and yet less common? Plus, lapis will be used for enchanting gear! So you use lapis to enchant lapis? What in the name of the nether will the enchantment power on the lapis armor be? Almost infinity? Why would you suggest an overpowered armor into the game?! And what's the guarantee that the enchantment table will even know that your lapis armor isn't currency it can eat to make enchantments?!
I think everyone should just stop making ridiculous suggestions, calm down, and think twice before posting!
