The reason I suggest this is because in Minecraft it seems like blocks that represent an object of matter that is made of particles that aren't dense. In real life, clay actually is made of particles, however clay particles are only about 2 µm, but it's made of particles, so it should fall in Minecraft. Any block in Minecraft that represent an object of matter in real life that has particles required to keep it steady, then the Minecraft version of those objects of matter should fall because it seems to be a pattern that the Minecraft version of matter from real life that has particles would be the only falling blocks in Minecraft. I doubt you like this idea, but I'm just following the pattern of the falling blocks in Minecraft and knowing that in real life, dirt and clay are made of small particles, so they should fall in Minecraft.
Are you insane! Gravel and Sand are to annoying now you want to add Clay to that as well?
Then again, it does make them easier to collect, by using the torch mining trick. You also don't have to use up the durability on your shovel when all you need is torches to collect them.

This isn't a very good idea, and as for making it easier to mine using the torch method (I saw a few comments on this), clay doesn't spawn in large enough quantities height wise for this to help at all.

I don't know. IRL clay is kind of gloopy. I think it might be fun if clay had a small random chance of falling. But I like that you can build clay sculptures.

I think you are going to love my Survival Let's Play series on YouTube! It's called Spaceboot1's Garden. I make pretty things.
Is this for regular clay (such as the type you find underwater) or does it extend to hardened clay too?
In real life, hardened clay has the 2 µm particles heated up and burned into a full fledged, definite solid, so no, Stained Clay in Minecraft wouldn't fall.
According to Powder Toy, clay is a very heavy material. And IRL too. And it also has the same texture as sand, so it does make some sense.

My Avatar is a Dalek, therefor your argument is... EXTERMINATED!!!
You know who can tell me something I already know? Me. All the time. I'm really good at telling me stuff I already know. I don't need help in that department. I don't know about others, but I can't imagine I'm alone here.
Sand and gravel fall into pieces because they're larger particle-wise than clay. The clay is capable of staying cohesive because it is made of tiny particles. That's why we can build sturdier things with clay than we can with pure sand. Your body is made of skin cells that are each 30 µm, but you don't fall apart whenever you walk, do you?

I agree with him. ^
Irl, when you pick up clay or dirt, does it fall through your hands? No. Small chunks may fall out of your hand, but it isn't going though your fingers like sand and gravel do, when you pick them up it smoothly flows through your hand.
All I have to say is, minecraft isn't supposed to be realistic. If it was, it would be realistic by now. Really, this would be annoying. I know tons of people who use clay for building. It's an awesome, and very useful block for building with. This would ruin that.
As far as 'realism' goes your idea is nonsensical and unrealistic.
As gameplay goes- realism doesn't count for anything; your idea is somewhat inconsistant with the rest of MC, and implementing it could interfere with peoples worlds.
Gravel and sand are generally granular materials which collapse and flow.
Clay on the other hand is rather sticky/squishy- kinda like dirt.
If clay falls, why does dirt stick?

Has nobody in this thread ever needed to dig clay IRL?
First time I hit virgin clay with a shovel, I told my boss I thought I hit some kind of degraded mass of concrete or mortar. It's that tough. Clay does settle flat over long periods of time, but in the short term, it's one of the most solid kinds of dirt you'll run into. It can stand in a vertical wall. It takes a pickaxe to break up with any speed. It's always a bad day when you hit clay and don't have a diesel-powered digging machine. Clay is the LAST dirt-like block that should EVER fall like sand or gravel.

Agreed, also, realism isn't as important as gameplay.
