Would this idea be good as a mod? Yes, it would, I would probably love that.
In normal Minecraft?
No. It starts giving Minecraft a story, and you don't want that in a Sandbox game. (Hell, you could claim it's bordering on RPG-like.)

Its a pretty awesome idea, Support. Also, maybe "Endsidian", a obsidian found in the end, that allows you to make a portal to the end with 12 pieces of it on the ground lit by a ender eye, thats just a way to get to it quickly without having to go to the stronghold each time you want to go to the stronghold.

I both do and don't see from thou's standpoint. Can you tell me what gives the storyline aspect to this suggestion? I had no intentions of adding a story, fully aware that Minecraft is primarily a Sandbox game.

When did the fanbase start making it's own assumptions of Minecraft?
Steve can't be alone
Minecraft can't be like an rpg
Minecraft can't have something similar to a storyline
Notch originally envisioned Minecraft to be what I felt it was in the first place, an rpg with a fully customizable base with some side features (creative mode).
He was going to add ogres, he added a dragon, he added the end appropriately called the end along with a funky scrolling ending.
Minecraft's core focuses on rpg elements (in it's own way ofc) and features constructive sandbox elements, not the other way around, well, until Dinnerbone came along, now it's just about command blocks and garbage features.
He also added the mining aspect (which, tnt was added because it's mining related but in a quirky minecraft style), so minecraft was essentially an rpg featuring mining, exploring and customization.

Taken directly from the front page of the wiki. There's a difference between what Notch had in mind and what resulted.
Now, if you look at the three games listed... Dwarf Fortress is a rougelike/city building game, Dungeon Keeper is a game where you build and maintain a dungeon. Then take a look at Infiniminer. Taking a look at what Notch said here, it's literally the inspiration for Minecraft. A digging and building game, and essentially the definition of a sandbox game. (After more research, Dwarf Fortress is listed there because it was actually an inspiration for an earlier project of his, some of which got incorporated into Minecraft.)
I'm by no means saying a sandbox cannot have a story, however the beauty of sandboxes is that the player has to create his own. When you set down paths for a player to follow, then it's not really a sandbox anymore. (Huge reason why Mojang avoided strict "do this do that" achievements, and used them to guide new players into the game. Most Pros just ignore the achievements.)
And @OP, since I'm too lazy to do all the fancy multiquoting stuff, if you have an object that directly unlocks another object/feature, that's essentially bordering on a storyline/structured play. There are alternatives to almost anything in Minecraft (Nether portals can be forged out of lava/water, you don't TECHNICALLY need eyes of enders to get into the stronghold...) and that's what makes it great.
Also, adding on to my last post, it makes little sense, because dragon eggs do not hatch into clouds.

its not that I hate this thread, but the problem is that it isnt going to fit in minecraft, minecraft is basicly a friendly and peaceful world, now your suggesting we add things like giants and rocs, this will NOT fit into regular minecraft eviorment, maybe make a mod?
sorry, but no support

I absolutely love the idea of an expanded End Dimension with new things to discover, but I think that the End should keep it's eerie unnatural feel. It is the END. I'd imagine this Dimension to have some the most unique and difficult mobs and be a place of horror and darkness, not a somewhat peaceful chain of islands, because that would just be a Sky Dimension and not the home of the Final Boss in the game and all his powerful minions and the likes. I like the mob concepts and descriptions for the Mobs, Items and Blocks, and give Almost Complete Support for this thread.
I also am working on a Mod that is under heavy development, and if you would like to take a look at what I have done, and maybe even join in on ideas and development of the mod, just jump on over to my deviantArt account; http://enderbeast2000.deviantart.com

Hehe! I wouldn't exactly call Minecraft peaceful. And actually Giants have been in Minecraft since alpha. They just don't spawn naturally. As for the Roc's, they're similar to wolves in the neutral aspect.
Appreciated! I will come up with textures, pictures, and concepts later on. And a hint to what I meant by the thing with the Ender Dragon, is that if I get my crap together with regards to it, you may or may not be able to craft an altar from the new blocks and items, to summon the true final boss. The Elder Ender Dragon. Keep in mind that this is a maybe.
Pretty good! A few good tweaks are needed, but I Like! Support!
I suggest adding end temples, where the endermobs still live, hoping to reclaim their world when they get the chance. This would add ender warriors, similar to enderman, but only 2 blocks tall. They cannot teleport either. They have four legs that take up about half of their body height, and are bent in different directions, like a spider. They will also hold swords, and sometimes spawn with helmets and chestplates. They spawn in groups, and protect the treasures of the temple from intruders. I'm not sure what would be in the temple other than the warriors.

But you do need eyes of ender to access the End. Thus Eyes of Ender, and their ingredients, (Combined with an ender portal frame) are already objects that directly unlock other objects (endstone, dragon egg) and features (access to the End, chance to fight the Enderdragon, opportunity to build an efficient enderpearl farm, etc).
I mean hell, In order to make minecarts and rails you need to mine iron which requires you to have crafted at least a stone pickaxe and build a furnace which requires at least a wood pickaxe. Pickaxes, items integral to Minecraft, are objects that directly unlock other objects/features. Pickaxes have no alternatives... well okay, they have a VASTLY INFERIOR alternative of crafting TNT and having a 70% chance of destroying the ore you're trying to mine.
Can't make an enchanting table without first making a diamond pickaxe.
This feels like a mod, and besides I have always thought the end as a ruined dead world with n hope for rebuilding. A fragment of a world that was, and the dragon its destroyer.
Figured it was time for a change.
Can you perhaps provide me as to why you support partially rather than fully or none at all? I want to see with what I can improve on this thread.
