Ive searched the forums and i have seen that no one has posted anything on a flying machine that could be introduced into the game.
I was being my usual lazy self playing minecraft jumping off cliffs because i can :3 and thought "Hey! how about if we could use a flying machine?"
I was thinking , everything can be crafted in the 3x3 crafting bench and i thought well you cant craft a flying machine with that bench as it'd be complicated so i thought it could be broken up into different parts and you would need to make all the parts to make the complete machine such as you would need to craft the wings,front,middle,back and lower parts,
My idea in my head instantly reminded me of leonardo davinci's past flying machine and the materials for wings could be paper or sheep wool, and the body mainly uses wood , but there would also need to be something that is hard to get such as diamond in there otherwise as soon as you make a new world you could just get some wood and hit a couple sheep and make a machine so it would be too easy, therefore it would need to have rare materials in there.
What do you guys think? will it not fit in the game, will it unbalance the game?
nah i was thinking about a glider of some sort but nothing technical like planes or stuff as the game doesnt really have that many techlological items in it the most advanced thing its got it most probably the jukebox :tongue.gif:
Well, assuming you're wanting a glider, here is how I suppose it would be crafted:
Fuselage (body):
Wing (will need to craft 2):
[] []
Tail: ]" title="-<->" />
[]
Cockpit ( = Redstone):
Assembly:

]" title="-<->" />

Its a bit complex... but then again, its basically a plane without engines. Not sure what would happen when it lands though. Perhaps breaking it would yield all the parts used to make it. Also, due to the effort required to make one, it should be able to soar for quite awhile during the day (due to thermal currents), but at night it would travel less than half as far.
So long as engines aren't introduced, I think it would work. As a counterargument for people who think it'd unbalance the game, we have powered minecarts, why not make an unpowered glider?
i was thinking with the landing it would be up to you how you land but if you do it wrong e.g nose first it would crash and break, but it landing with the bottom of the glider on the ground it would be safe.
With the flying technique i think when riding the glider there should be a wind gauge ect showing you where the wind is going and how fast it is going and that would determine the effects of how you fly turning,speed ect.
I think the idea about a flying machine is good!
But it should not be able to fly any faster than you can walk - else it would have a too big advantage!
Heres another little idea, ispired by Da vinci (Yeah - i know it was unable to fly LINK)
First you need 2 rotor blades:
Then you need a shaft:
Then there should be a motor, and a way to flyt it: ( => Boat/Ship)
[]
Again: It should NOT be able to fly faster, than you can walk!
It would be good, when making a flying castle and so on. If you destroy it, its gone.
The more items you got on you, the slower the helicopter will fly?
But i agree with the helicopter the speed of the flying machines shouldnt be faster than walking, the main idea was so you could fly around take a view of your surroundings and watch the blocky square sun set
I can also imagine people making their own landing pads and runways for decorations :biggrin.gif:
This is just my personal opinion, but i think there should be nothing with a motor in the game right now at least. gliders I am fine with a guess, but as long as they eventually fall to the ground.(angle of depression) So there is still a point of using the nether instead of just flying everywhere.
I think it would be cool to make a propeller using sticks in the 3X3 grid.

Then that could be combined with a furnace and a lever to make a powered propeller. The whole point of this is so the player can add blocks around the propeller to customize their machine any way they want, staying to to the game's original idea. but that is a good idea to add some kind of limitation to the speed depending on what is attached to the furnace/propeller.

There is a link to a very balanced, very useful ornithopter suggestion.
