Okay here's the thing, I know that the red dragon is more likely than not is never going to reappear in minecraft. It has gone the way of the dodo, the giant and Rana. However, just for the fun of it, why dont we just consider a way that this majestic beast could be re-implemented.
Habitat: The red dragon would live in the extreme hills biome, spawning very very rarely. It would fly above the mountains and the clouds, not entirely visible and would act rather neutral towards a player. The dragon would be very territorial however and would only attack when provoked. When a dragon does spawn, it will spawn a nest along with it at the top of a mountain with dragon eggs inside. These will have the same model as the ender dragon egg but being will have an actual purpose( we will get to that in a minute).
Behavior: Now, the dragon will continue to circle and mind it's own business, perhaps attacking sheep and cattle from the air for food? The dragon will only attack when an egg, or a piece of it's nest is destroyed by the player. Immediately after any block is broken the dragon will let out a deafening roar audible from a fairly great distance (not like the wither I believe it is that is able to be hear all across the world, or maybe that's just the sky changing colour honestly I am not sure). The dragon will then relentlessly attack you with both a ranged fireball attack and the classic dragon tactic "I'm just going to run into everything and blow it up, because this is how a dragon do." Once the player has been killed the dragon will continue it's previous neutral behavior.
Drops: This dragon will not be as challenging as the other bosses, but it will have a more unique feature about it in what it gives as an item drop. As I mentioned earlier about the dragon killing passive mobs for food, as well as the players it defeats, the dragon when killed will drop all the items it has collected. This makes the dragon a real source of food for a player, as well as any weapons and armor lost by previous warriors. As well as these items it will drop other various treasures because dragons are thought to be greedy for gold and treasure, and that's what I am focusing on in this dragon. In the dragons nest there will be blocks of gold, similar to underwater temples, this is because this is the dragons hoard which it keeps it's eggs protected in.
...Now for what everyone wants. The dragon egg.
Let me be clear, I in no way want dragons as pets or tamable mobs. The eggs, WILL NOT be used to spawn baby dragons.
Yeah that was crap, it's gone now. Honestly I am not suggewsting the dragon be implemented, I guess this is more of, if they did do it, this could be a cool way to do so. I like the nest idea with the mob protecting it, but youre right maybe something smaller!
