Beds Overhaul are suggestions based on the Bed item. I will explain each suggestion in specific aspects of Minecraft such as Survival Singleplayer, Survival Multiplayer, Mapmakers and Aesthetic Builders.
Here is the list of Pros and Cons of the Current Bed,
Pros:
1. Changes night to day
2. Sets spawn point
Cons:
1. Can't sleep when monsters are nearby
2. Spawn point is reset when bed is destroyed
3. Explodes in Nether and The End
4. Requires all players to be sleeping at the same time to be used
Now for the First Aspect of Minecraft... Survival Singleplayer and Survival Multiplayer or SSP and SMP
Suggestions:
#1 The "Rest" System.
Your health regenerates when you use the bed, its regeneration speed depends on your hunger. The Higher the bar, the faster it regenerates, the lower it is, the slower it regenerates. Of course it would be too OP, so here are the bad stuff. If you have the "Hunger" effect, you cannot sleep at all. If you also have 0 Hunger Bar, you cannot sleep, if you took damage while sleeping, you will stop sleeping.
If you try to sleep with hunger effect or 0 Hunger bar, this message appears: "You cannot sleep right now, you are hungry"
#2 Daytime Nap
You can now sleep during the day (of course it will not turn Day to Night)! The "Rest" System applies here and all "sleep" words can be replaced with "take a nap". You will sleep for around 30 seconds then stop and cannot sleep again for another minute (it would be too OP if you will keep sleeping right? because "Rest" System applies here). Time still moves as normal and Hunger still drains but slowly as if you were standing. (Thanks for pointing it out ReviewTheMinecraft!)
If you try to sleep again, this message appears: "You cannot take a nap right now, you just took one earlier."
Second Aspect, Mapmaking
#1 New Gamerule
Simple, just add a new gamerule "canSleep" Especially if your map has a Nighttime setting and your map is supposed to have Daylight Cycle.
This can be added along to my suggestions since players can sleep now
/gamerule canSleep <true/false>
Third Aspect, Aesthetic
#1 Colored Beds
(yes I know there are alot of Colored Bed suggestions, but mine is more different)
It recolors the sheet part of the bed.
The Crafting Recipe of the Bed is just the same as before. To dye the beds, just add a bed and dye to the crafting table (Shapeless recipe) or simply Shift + Right-Click a bed. It is illogical but doesn' affect the crafting recipe because you don' want to hunt down sheep of the same colour right?
DEVELOPERS POV:
It is just a bed but with different Data Values, like Hardened Clay, Stained Glass and Wool.
A workaround can fix this. Turn it into a Block Entity and add a NBT Tag for beds called "Color" and it works as the same for sheep. (Thanks Badprenup!)
The Pros and Cons of the Suggestions Combined
If all of my Suggestions combined, here are the new Pros and Cons:
Pros:
1. Regenerates health but speed depends on Hunger Bar
2. Sets Spawnpoint
3. Changes Time
4. Can Sleep during day or night
5. /gamerule canSleep can Control Beds
6. Dyeable!
Cons:
1. Explodes in Nether or The End
2. Requires all players to sleep at the same time to change time
3. Resets Spawnpoint when destroyed
4. Wakes up when taking damage while Sleeping
5. Cannot Sleep while 0 Hunger
6. Cannot Sleep while Monsters are nearby
7. Cannot Sleep while "Hunger" effect is active

Thank you if you read this post or Supported it!
There are things known as the 10 Suggestion Commandments. Many know the obvious, such as, "Thou shalt search before typing thy post," or, "Thou shalt not be vague," but one that no one knows is, "Thou shalt organize thy post." More people need to know of this commandment.
this can add new features that might be useful for some players without breaking other aspects.
However, I'm not sure if this should be a mod or a vanilla feature.
think about it.
With support,

First of all, one to two word comments are really discouraged and is against the rules
And now a chronological order of complaints when I read it.
The rest system, I have no complaints for that. That would be nifty
Daytime nap. I'm a bit confused on the way it works. It doesn't speed/slow time, so you would be sleeping for 30 seconds, and has a cooldown of 1 minute. It uses a bit of hunger you say, so what's the upside of it? Hunger loss? I can stand and not loose hunger, assuming I'm not healing, being hurt, mining, etc.
The /gamerule canSleep is useless. Use a daylight detector and a command block to set it back to night, eternal night.
First, I applaud your dedication to the rules. However, every rule has an exception. The exception for one word posts is in this section, where saying "Support" or "No support" is generally allowed. Of course it is preferred that people say more, especially if they dislike the idea so they can explain why. Beyond that, I generally agree with what you said. The nap system is for health regeneration though. You lay in bed for 30 seconds and your health goes up while hunger drops.
As for the OP's part on the developer's POV for beds, it is a bit faulty. Beds use 5 values from their metadata right now, determining which direction the bed is facing and if it is the top or bottom part of the bed. So you could get 11 colors at most with the current system. However, it could work if they allow infinite block states (something they seem to be working towards). The better way to do it would be to make the bed a tile entity. Doing that you could store every color similar to leather armor, and it could also hold data inside it for making compasses point to beds or any other number of functions.

I really like the idea of dyable beds (that can be counted as a support vote). When you've built X number of Survival houses, you do get tired of being stuck wih the same bed over and over, and I can see it adding something to RPing and multiplayer if you can make beds distinct enough to be "claimed' by a particular player for a particular reason. But I understand what you're saying here--and yes, in my limited programming knowledge, it seems to me they could in theory make beds a tile entity and retain various functions. Crafting tables are a tile entity, yes? As a tile entity, I don't think adding a function to store color would really be too problematic. The real problem is in how beds are originally designed and if they are willing to change that. Unless players make a good case for it, they may simply disregard that idea as a very low priority amid the bigger picture, from the devs' POV.
Hrm, I like this. Instead of dying using a crafting table, you could right click the bed with a specific dye?
Thats more easier, but Shift+Right-Click is better because Right Clicking would cause to sleep. Also, added it into OP.

Brilliant! I have noticed Sheep and their ability to be dyed. Sheep has a "Color" NBT Tag which uses Data Values of Wool, Stained Glass, Stained Clay and Carpets to get their color. Making it into a Tile Entity would be a workaround to this "Dyeable Beds" (added into OP).

1. I didn't touch Time in Daytime nap as it could affect time for Multiplayer Servers. Instead it uses hunger, but it depletes slowly as if you were standing. The Upside of it is the "Rest System" stated above.
2. I added /gamerule canSleep because of my Suggestion "can Sleep during daytime"
I love how this is well explained. I like the idea too. Support!

Standing never loses hunger. Assuming that you are not not naturally healing and being attacked by something, you technically aren't doing any action, as stated in http://minecraft.gam..._level_increase.
Forgot to check that out. Thanks for pointing it out! Fixed OP.
Awesome!
I support this!
And standing DOES make you lose hunger, I have stood in a nether portal (I was stuck in it) For 10 mins, I lost half a bar of hunger.

It takes you 6 seconds to read all of this, 0.3 seconds to look at the egg, 0.2 seconds to click it, 3 seconds to read it's description, 1 second to exit out the page, and 10 seconds to forget it ever happened. :3
Admittedly, I read your initial list of pros and cons and seriously expected this to be a terrible suggestion where you tried to remove the End/Nether explosions and the can't sleep while monsters are nearby mechanics of the bed. After reading through the suggestion and the posts that followed, I was greatly relieved to discover that this is actually a wonderful suggestion and fairly balanced overall. While I'm personally not a fan of the whole "napping" idea, I can't find myself really disliking any of it.
Definitely support this suggestion. Would love to see this idea come to fruition. Up vote for you, sir!

We have no idea if you took any damage or not. We have no idea if you were healing. We have no idea if you were attacking. Unless you record 10 mins of doing absolutely nothing, it's not exactly trustworthy
Edit: The reddit post didn't work because the OP doesn't have 10 comment karma

That half a bar of hunger (you say half a bar and not half of the hunger bar) was probably just the exhaustion from you running/moving prior just kicking in.
