Soulsand only slows you down, so I thought: we should make some better uses of soulsand!
So here are my ideas:
Soulsand only slows you down when you walk on it, not when you brush it with the side of your blocky body, so maybe make it so that if you brush agenst the soulsand it slows you down?
2d, you should make it so that you can make slowness potions by adding a fermented spidereye to a speed potion, OR you can just out soulsand in the brewing stand above some awkward potions to make a slowness potion!
3d I think that you lose half a heart every 15 seconds you touch soulsand (It doesn't count if you jump, though) because soulsand should "Drain your soul" When its stepped on because right now its called "Soulsand" FOR NO REASON! Why isn't it called "Slowsand" Or "Nethersand" because calling it "Soulsand" Makes no sense, but NOW it will! Since if it takes half a heart ever 15 seconds if you are touching it it will finally make sense!
So let me ask you guys and girls, do you think these should be added? And please don't say:" THAT MAKES NO SENSE THIS IS HORRIBLE" Please actually tell me what you would say if you were making this topic like:"I think that it should give you wither instead of hurting you by half a heart every 15 seconds because..."

It takes you 6 seconds to read all of this, 0.3 seconds to look at the egg, 0.2 seconds to click it, 3 seconds to read it's description, 1 second to exit out the page, and 10 seconds to forget it ever happened. :3
Since people in the community have already gotten used to the mechanics of soul sand as they are, i don't think this should be fully implemented. I do, however, think that your idea to brew slowness potions with soul sand should be implemented.
Soulsand only slows you down, so I thought: we should make some better uses of soulsand! Sure it just slows you down, but that single use can make for some excellent, efficient traps.
Soulsand only slows you down when you walk on it, not when you brush it with the side of your blocky body, so maybe make it so that if you brush agenst the soulsand it slows you down? You mean your body touching the "radius" of the soulsand slows you down? Even if you stand on it partially? I don't see the big need for that, but if that was added, I wouldn't complain.
2d, you should make it so that you can make slowness potions by adding a fermented spidereye to a speed potion, OR you can just out soulsand in the brewing stand above some awkward potions to make a slowness potion! It makes sense, but that's kinda cheap to just copy an ingredient like that. This makes slowness potions easier to make since you can just skip a step with the soulsand. That's not a very attractive addition to the game, but that's just my opinion.
It already slows you down, making you more vulnerable. Imagine how overpowered traps would be with this. Just because it's called "Soul Sand" doesn't mean taking your soul makes sense. Who knows what "souls" are in there?
So let me ask you guys and girls, do you think these should be added? And please don't say:" THAT MAKES NO SENSE THIS IS HORRIBLE" Please actually tell me what you would say if you were making this topic like:"I think that it should give you wither instead of hurting you by half a heart every 15 seconds because..." The only plausible part is the slow-down-when-partially-on-it part. The potion part seems like a cheap copy of an ingredient and the damaging part is possibly overpowered and annoying. So I guess, 33.3% support.
You seem to have a nasty habit of saying an item is useless then ignoring all of the uses of the item.
Like the fact that Soul Sand is essential for growing Netherwart, which brewing is impossible without. You also severely disregard the uses of the fact that it slows you down, as it can be combined with Ice, Water, and Slime Blocks for a variety of redstone devices and mob traps, including TnT cannons. It also reduces damage done to boats when crashing, which can keep your boat from breaking. Finally, it is used for the Wither and is therefore essential for Beacons.
As for actually responding to the ideas, ZTick has me covered. I agree with them.

For me not every block even needs to have a purpose. I'm fine with some blocks looking pretty and is that's all it does I'm happy. Badprenup did make a point however, soulsand does have a lot of purposes.
I'll only support the brushing up against the sides making you slower part, 'cause, in my personal opinion, I've always believed Soul Sand to be sort of like a soul magnet.
Funny, back when the Nether came out, many players actually did call it slowsand. I believe it was listed as an alternate name on the wiki for a while even, but I digress.
At any rate, have you ever noticed how cactus can't be placed adjacent to other blocks, and destroys items? This is because Notch (I'm talking about way back when Notch still worked on Minecraft here) didn't like people using cactus in pitfalls for free items. If you make soulsand deal damage, you have the same exact problem.

I support the 1st idea, but the rest is unnecessary. Also, you really need to understand that just because an object only has one main function, does not mean that it only has one use, nor does it need more functions.
Pray tell me; what is the purpose of grass? It is only there so we can plant flowers and grass on, right? Same with soul sand. Although, making it 'sticky' on all sides would not be bad.
I agree with the 3d: The "soul-draining mechanic" of soul sand. I think that it will really make the sand live up to its name. Who knows, maybe the sand has its faces due to other miners too slow and unfortunate to have paced upon it! <fridge horror>
Soulsand may slows you down, but it can be used for great traps, as well an protection
About making slowness potion using these, aren't they too Overpowered? because it can be more easier, maybe the recipe can be changed?
Yes, it was make more sense that the soulsand can drain your life, but the something is soulsand can be generated like an huge field of soulsand, so we need to avoid those?, oh and the effect will be reset when you jump out from the soulsand
