Indeed. Im more excited than I usually am about the next update ^^
He said hes adding beds, more halfstone blocks, redstone timers, and "The game will become more interesting for sure." Says notch on his post prior to the one I posted earlier. He also said he had a great design meeting with the team. I cant wait till it comes out.
This is a pretty good idea, I see you want to make the game more realistic. But really, 2 full days to start dying of hunger isn't the least bit realistic. I would make it 3 days, and that would be on hard dificulty. As in reallity it takes about 2 weeks to die of hunger, make that easy mode (on peaceful of course there would be no hunger or thirst, but that's later) and make it 1 week on normal, and finally, as I said before 3 days on hard.
And to add on to your idea, there might as well be thirst, implemented the same way as hunger, but instead of the realistic 3 days to die of thirst, use that only for hard, 5 for normal, and 7 for easy. But since obviously we can't drink sea water, I have another suggestion. Make a way to purify water, ans for the sake of just making things simple, make it + = Bucket of Purified Water.

I love Freakazoid, the candlejack episode is my favori
I'm liking this system of hunger. It doesn't get in the way and adds challenge to the game. I would prolly play this variation very often. Loving the suggestion :biggrin.gif:

REAL MEN DON'T PLAY AS TESTOSTERONE-POISONED SPACE MARINES, REAL MEN PLAY KIRBY.
I like this idea, however, I assume that in peaceful mode its auto-disabled?
It could be auto-disabled for peaceful, but I'd like to think that you can still enable it in peaceful. For those people who don't want to have to fight enemies, but still survive against nature.
I want to have hunger in Peaceful Mode because it gives purpose to making/gathering food. I don't really like bad mods, but I do like a little challenge. I know some people don't like the idea of a hunger mode, so the option of turning on/off is a good one. This is what I really LIKE about Minecraft: it caters to such a broad spectrum of gaming styles.
I don't know about separating the hunger meter from the heart/health system we already have. I think it would work just to loose a half or whole heart a day if you don't eat something. Eating regularly would make you buffer against injury - which is a normal thing, but not eating wouldn't kill you for quite awhile - which is a normal thing too.
good idea, however i think it should be disabled on peaceful mode, on other modes its enabled.
Some still want it while on peaceful in order to make it ever so slightly dangerous.
The 'on/off' option fixes this problem. I know I want it in peaceful mode - that's the mode I play 90% of the time, and there is no reason to make/grow food in peaceful mode if there isn't a hunger element.
I think its alright, but it could be improved a bit.
I think you should get hungry faster based on your activity levels (distance traveled, blocks destroyed, times jumped, mobs fought, etc) I also think that certain biomes should hunger you faster (dessert & polar) but increased mineral render rates to make the environmental struggle worth it.
Furthermore, I think there should be speed bonus's & consequences for hunger-- each stage of hunger you go through, the slower you move, when you're satisfied you're at normal speed, when you're energetic for a short time after large meals you move at above normal speed for a short while, and if you eat entirely too much food at once, you become "overfull" and are slowed down until your stomach settles and you digest your feast. Why? Because the only occasions I eat very large amounts of food in-game is when I'm about to die in-battle, this would discourage such dishonorable use of food through an inherent tactical disadvantage it instantly puts you in--- one which currently doesn't exist.
As well, rare specialty foods (such as coffee, coca plants, golden apples) would give you a temporary speed boost on their own, just as another feature to the speed & hunger system, to make an added advantage to the implementation, and another dimension of goals & merchandise for SMP.
As the opposite of starvation, what about a 'oversatiated' mode, where you start moving slower and if you continue eating you 'choke over your food' and die? Too much NetHack maybe, lol.
YES! Why is this not already a part of gameplay! ESPECIALLY on peaceful! Currently I'm too big of a wimp to play on easy, and I sacrifice dozens of bread into my lava pit to pretend I'm eating, for realism. I can't be the only one doing something like this, too.
I am just a guy looking for good suggestions that are original, creative, and match the theme of Mine-craft. I have some mob ideas that I need help forming which is a community project.

Chowing down every two days isn't exactly a challenge...I stockpile grilled fish already.
Overall, great idea. Just...Don't see the challenge. Unless I get trapped in a mine.
And if this "starvation" is different from wound death, what's the difference? Death is death.
Incompetence is a plague. I am the cure.
