Environment: Deep Ocean where there is little light AI: Non-Hostile Drop: Lumin-essence Misc: Cute, tiny little organisms that flash and glow in the deepest parts of the ocean. These harmless little guys can be found in lazy swarms. An adventurer could swim through these clouds and collect them at his/her leisure and with the Lumin-essence, craft torches that function underwater!
Of course, you would have to find some way not to drown while down there.
This is actually a two-part suggestion.
New Mob Idea:Angler
Environment: Deep Ocean where there is little light AI: Hostile, but not immediately aggressive Drop: Lumin-essence, fish meat Misc: The occasional downside to hunting Whisps in the ocean depths, is that every now and again, what you thought was a Whisp was actually the lure of a vicious Angler. It's body is invisible until something touches it's lure, then it lashes out and attacks whatever it sees. The Angler isn't terribly strong, but it is fast and particularly frightening. Considering that you are deep withing the ocean where you're probably already concerned for you own well being, this beasty doesn't help assuage your concerns.
I would say that if you have an underwater torch, that the Angler would be visible once within a certain range. I'm not certain if I'd want them to run away, or just attack at that point... probably the latter.
Wow, another person has beaten me to a mob idea that I had.
Another great suggestion!
Seeing as there is little light deep in the ocean, I would think that the angler's large, nocturnal eyes would be sensitive to a large amount of light. Maybe if an angler can avoid an underwater torch, and if you suddenly place a torch and an angler is nearby, said angler could be temporarily blinded/stunned. If it's blind its AI can be switched to passive, making it swim aimlessly around before turning hostile again.
I'm not sure how it can drop luminescence though...

Having light stun them might be too much. If we're going to make them light sensitive, then it would probably be that they just run away from too much light.
As far as luminescence , they drop it because they have it in their lures.
I had an idea for an anglerfish just like this one.
It's pretty nice, just like all of your suggestions!

"Minecraft? Realistic? Really? This is a game where you punch trees to get wood, you can make the wood into wooden planks in less than five seconds, and trees don't fall even if you remove a piece of the trunk from the middle. This is a game where animate corpses, giant spiders and exploding green terrorists emerge at night to hunt you down, farm animals run rampant across the countryside, and you can stop the flow of molten lava with a block of snow."
As usual, great idea. The only problem is, we'd have to implement diving, bigger oceans, fish/sharks/coral/more sea life, underwater landforms, etc, before these things could actually be enjoyed.

Agreed! If only someone were working on trying to get stuff like that started... if only...
YES. A THOUSAND TIMES YES.
Of course, aquatic mobs are going to be incredibly hard to make. They have to swim up, down, and hover, which the current (ha ha) A.I can't do.

I don't imagine it would be much different than the Ghast, which flies around. Just restrict the movement to water.

Yeah, but ghasts strafe around. There are no fish that strafe. Plus, it has to be limited to deep waters. I still want it, I'm just pointing out a few difficulties with coding. Please, DrZhark, figure out how to make these work!
More than likely! I think we would want to wait till we get super deep oceans... but I have a variant idea that will come up after I celebrate the Winter Solstice!
An excellent creature design and an excellent minigame those two creatures present. is it a whisp or an angler?
The problem is that minecraft is in no good shape to add underwater mobs. We need more support for diving and underwater combat before underwater mobs especially hostile ones are implemented... but this point has nothing to do with the quality of your creature.
And what happens if you drain the water it was swimming in? does it flop around or die?

Sorry if this seems kind of out of place and nuubish, but what programs are you people using to do these kind of representations?

Otherwise, Notch should additionally add this.
3D Studio Max and Adobe Photoshop
Yeah, they do seem a bit short, I might lengthen them a little.

I can totally see people going under the sea to gather this stuff. Anglers will be only one of your worries, though.
