Purpose: The Golden Sapling allows the player to grow large trees at a fast rate without multiple saplings.
Limitations: The tree will only grow under sunlight, so long as the sapling is getting a direct flow of sunlight the tree will grow. The sapling needs to have at least 15 blocks of free space above the sapling in order to grow. It must be placed on irrigated tilled dirt in order to grow, however they can be placed else where for decorative purposes.
Bonuses: The sapling will grow into a massive tree (usually) that feature gold-tinged leaves. These leaves sometimes drop a Golden Sapling when destroyed, these Golden Saplings will grow into other golden trees and so fourth. The tree will also feature more horizontal branches made from logs and leaves (basically, more wood drop rate and more sapling drop rate)
I don't like it dropping gold ingots. :/ But if it dropped other gold saplings (small drop rate, of course), that'd be awesome. Neither do I like it yielding 5 wood. It already has a tendency for growing huge, just keep it at four. And keeping it at the normal burning rate is fine because you have more wood!
The upside would be these trees always grow at the big trees with "branches" of wood. not just a single pillar of it like the small ones. So you'd have a better source of wood..
having all of the tree's leaves being golden would look a bit too gaudy.
Perhaps leaving most of the leaf blocks green, but have a golden sapling create 2 or 3 golden leaf blocks.
These blocks would sometimes (40 percent of the time or so) drop golden leafs.
Golden leafs could be applied to tools, chests/furnaces and weapons, giving them a nice golden trim.
also the recipe should be a bit less gold heavy, perhaps just

Where the leaves are the sapling.
the drop rate is low for gold saplings still
and it would make the tree stand out so you can tell
