This is simply a must in my opinion; a quit without saving option.
First off, have you ever fell in a pit of lava on accident? How about fell into a void and died and got angry? What about had tons of people kill you far away from base? This is the way I want to change it.
You should get a quit without saving option, no doubt. I can see how some people think it might rune the "too bad factor" or "Oh well, Ill just get more" factor, but I dont really mind. I just hate it when bad stuff happens and you cant get out of it.
A quit without dying feature can easily be added simply by copying the save folder to a temporary spot on the harddrive and then if the player is unsatisfied with what has happened in their game, the player simply needs to delete the new save directory and copy the old save directory back in its original place.
Therefore it only makes sense that the player should be able to quit their game without saving.
No! Plus even IF that were an option, Witch im confident Notch won't consider, It saves automatically when you die. Do you think that that would be there if Notch wanted there to be a 'Way out'?
controversy! I like it :tongue.gif:
anyway I can see where both of you are going. What could happen is when you are on easy, you can quit without saving. The problem is, most of the people who like to play like a pro will have a problem with the other people who quit without saving. I really don't know; but I think that if you can just copy your save file before playing, why not?
Thanks for both of your opinions so far however. Ill think about if this is an idea I really do want or not..
I want a generic quit button that leads to "save and quit", "quit without saving", and "cancel". The save button, with no strings attached, would be in the ESC options box.

You can bypass the autosave. I've done this before. I can easily write a simple script that will even automate this process. I'm not against the autosave but when there's games like Black Ops that feature both a autosave and a manual save it makes me wonder if maybe Notch forgot to add the manual save feature? I'm just sayin'
I remember how this worked out in Mount and Blade. I selected the option in which you get to quit without saving. This resulted me going and razing villages. I get caught? Reload old save.
In Minecraft's case, the player may not care about having to traverse a lava pool, because hey, he can just reload his old save.
I am very against this idea. If it does get added though, like in Mount and Blade, there should be a "casual" option when you create a new world which would enable this if selected.
i completely agree with this. I just love and I mean really love to play in lava :biggrin.gif: I love messing around with TNT too. But I always have my diamond items with me just in case of an emergency and I always seem to die. I hate to cheat them back with INVEdit after i die too. So I really think when you press pause it shouldn't save and there should be a guit without save button. I also think there should be a save button in case you wanna save without leaving to title screen :smile.gif:
These are my opinions but match this. Hope add em in
This is probably the least decent reason in here, even if I supported this suggestion. "I play with explosives and around molten rock, but I don't want to have any repercussions if I screw it up! Stop making me hack in the crap I lost from my own stupidity!" Leave it at home if you love your junk that much, and you're going out to intentionally and literally play with fire. If you're going to do dangerous things on purpose then there ought to be consequences. Minecraft is old-school in the forgiveness department, and should stay that way in regards to saving.

Every time I come to these forums, I think more and more that I'm the only person who plays Minecraft normally.

No way. It ruins the game, you could just run around like an idiot not caring about a thing thinking "Well I can just quit and go back to my previous save point, no biggie." The game will get boring very quickly, the point of the game is surviving, if you could just quit and go back to the last save point there really is no point is there?

Yeah, this option shouldn't exist. I believe that in an interview, Notch himself said that he liked the idea of mistakes and the like being permanent. If you don't want to lose items, be careful around lava and cacti. Avoid the void (This has actually been fixed, there aren't any holes in the bedrock anymore). Store your valuables.
If you do something stupid, there will most likely be negative consequences, some of which are permanent. You're also neglecting that there are no irreplaceable items to lose. Most items will be a pain to re-create, but losing some valuable items isn't the end of the game.

It's hard waiting around for something that you know might never happen; but it's even harder to give up when you know it's everything you ever wanted.
well, i kind of agree it would rune the survival aspect..
Im kind of iffy about this..
and to the guy who asked why I have 4 answers, I like to throw a little joke or something to lighten moods a little. Lol, it usually helps to stop flaming :biggrin.gif:
I think the option should be available. I for one would like this feature because I want to make challenge / game type maps for me and my personal friends. It would be nice to just exit and come back in with everything the way it started so theirs nothing to fix or replace. I understand that many do not want this feature because the like playing pro and believe if they die or if something goes wrong, they should have to live with it. Well that makes perfect sense but there are many who would like to fool around and stuff without risking their progress. So... I think if this option was only for creative / cheat activated games, It could be agreed on better by both sides. The "pro's" can keep playing their survival with full possible consequences while those who want to use creative and cheats can expand their own possibilities. This way it works out for the best of both worlds.
This is something i've been looking forward to for a long time, though i know it has been implemented to the Xbox 360 version. but in hardcore it shouldn't be there.
But if this is added to Minecraft then you are just as good as an immortal person.
I think its a great idea to the point where theres not many options in minecraft for second chances aha but maybe set it to 1 use a day or something like that, therefore if you continue to die.. maybe you dont deserve to get your stuff back
