Storage Cart Detectors
I personally don't think we need one. At stations you would have 2 carts, the one your ride, and the one you store in, correct (I don't use stations for this purpose so I may be wrong on that assumption)? So just using a system similar to the one I have in video where your cart stops at the arrival station (if you can call it that) then 2 tracks later waits for you at departure, the storage cart would wait there behind your cart to move, wouldn't it? That allows ample time to transfer or allocate items as you please. I never use storage carts so I'm only going off speculation

Hmmm I missed that little thing maybe one more block which could detect when a cart is full(another thread would be best for this mod if someone where to make it) and this would be a hard thing to code because it would have to detect if the objects are stackable and if they are whether they are a full stack or not (plus this would have to be done really quickly(aka within a tick))
If your going to add a new block, then it might as well be a dedicated storage minecart detector with three selectable detection states, like I proposed. :wink.gif: [edit] Besides, I don't want to mess with the behavior of the occupied passenger cart detector. I can't see anything but misery and fail when I think of altering something so intrinsic to successful passenger minecart stations. [/edit]
As for checking to see if a cart is completely full, what do you think the game does whenever you pickup loose items? It checks the inventory for a stack to which it can add the item, or an empty space that it can start a new stack in. For every single item you pick up. If the game can handle an entire inventory's worth (36*64=2304 items!) of such checks in a single frame without noticeable pause, then the detector won't be a problem, as it will only be doing it once per tick. The Storage Cart Detector would just be a modification of this basic behavior.

For the issue of storage minecarts, I would simply make the wooden (empty) minecart detector activate if the cart contained anything, and the stone (occupied) detector would detect full carts. Now that I think about this, however, empty carts would be undetectable. Perhaps wood detectors always detect stuff, a new block detects if they have anything, and the stone detects if they are full. But then you've added a new block already, so might as well go with some of the other plans...

ANY modification of the existing detectors is a BAD idea. Let's say you build a station using a stone (occupied passenger cart) detector to route empty carts away from your arrivals bay. If you also used the same rail track for storage carts (and you likely would, since who wants to build 2 rail lanes to do the same thing in the same direction?) and they were full (which it has a fair or better chance of being so) then it will get routed to your arrivals lane and sit there indefinitely, jamming up the entire system.
So, let's just say no to any modifications to the preexisting detectors. Please?

Unless theres a way to differentiate storage from regular carts. Then simply separate out the storage at the station. I would prefer something along these lines to creating several new blocks or an arbitrarily adjustable one. How about this: Wood detects anything. New block detects any storage. Stone detects full storage. I haven't taken the time to think all the implication through, but something along those lines would appeal to me.

I honestly just want to completely replace them with detector blocks. That's just my personal feelings though. >_>
Actually he was referring to your Detector Blocks. We've been discussing proposals of possibly a new block: Storage Minecart Detector. However, we have yet to have any clear idea of how to detect a Full Storage Cart, or an Empty Storage Cart. Some suggest a new block while other want to modify the Wooden and Stone Detector Blocks. ColbaltStarr is against changing your detectors.
I honestly don't know where I stand in the debate to be honest, but I have been anticipating your thoughts on the subject.

I'm not particularly disappointed with the minecart update, though I can certainly see some of the flaws in it. There's one thing a couple of people have been saying that particularly confused me though. In what way are the boosters also full stop tracks?
Huh. I missed that aspect of them. It kinda makes sense though, since if you don't use the booster the minecart will stop anyway; this just lets you control where it stops.
This seems rather irrelevant with the booster and detector track pieces. A great idea that seems to have been fairly implemented, even if not exactly in this form :biggrin.gif:

There are those among us who don't feel the current implementation is as good as it could be. Therefore this is still relevant to us.

No matter how dark the night may seem, there is always the light of hope to guide your path, you only need to allow it.
The simple fact is, Jeb's system is incapable of letting a minecart stop and start again on a level stretch of track, and cannot differentiate between occupied and unoccupied carts without resorting to pressure plates.
I'll be frank, I don't think those limitations really affect my own rail system, but I recognize that they are pretty big limitations, and so should everyone else. There is also the fact that detector track instead of detector blocks further limits the options of advanced railbuilders.
I'll not harp on the weakness of the boosters in this post, as that's tweakable. The above stuff is fundamental.
Why don't you make a new poll?
It would look something like this:
Are the Minecraft boosters better or Minecart Mk. 2's boosters better?

Edit: Sorry, I'm good at math. 'Twas a fluke. I did it in my head, so it was susceptible to mistakes. (Out of all the math I've done on this board, I make one mistake, and POW, people get on it faster than anything else.)
This board may be rather biased, cant think of where else to put it, perhaps a thread on minecart systems or simething.
Oh, and yea, work on your subtraction (funny thing is he did the percentages perfectly)

mcmodder_07- the change you made to the MC Mk II booster to allow it to have carts 'stack' on top of it (instead of falling into each other)- any chance you can send it to Jeb? (or Notch, or anyone at Mojang). If they can incorporate it into their booster, at least Pez dispensers might be possible.
Everyone- Also, I'm wondering if it would make sense to approach them about making the boosters configurable. Similar to the way you can Right-click Note blocks to change the pitch, and Repeaters to change the delay, I think it should be possible to have the Boosters cycle through 'Bi-directional' (default as it is placed), 'left', 'right', and 'no boost'?? I'm not sure if they would be open to changing a block that already exists like that. Any thoughts?

I made no changes to the booster, I modified the minecart entity so it can be stacked on top of *any* track.

Thank you Zenofire, for trying to alleviate some of Ehnonimus' confusion regarding what I said. But others still seem to be confused, so I'm going to remove that confusion through the power of bullet points.
My thoughts on...
...the new tracks added by jeb: too limited/limiting. I'm pretending they don't exist right now.
...Minecarts Mk. II: MUCH better thought out than the half-assed job jeb did, and damn near perfect.
...Mk. II's Wooden Detector Block: I see it as a sort of Generic Minecart Detector, that detects ANY minecart that enters its range regardless of type or state.
...Mk. II's Stone Detector Block: I see this one as an Occupied Passenger Minecart Detector, which -- as the name describes -- detects minecarts that have a passenger (Mob or Player) onboard.
...the suggested modifications to these two detector blocks: BAD IDEA!!! ANYTHING that produces ANY ambiguity in their behavior should be avoided at all costs! The modifications suggested towards making them detect empty and full storage minecarts would create such ambiguity. Very, very, VERY BAD!
...a new Storage Minecart Detector Block: I consider this a step in the right direction, but most people are being too limited as to its potential functions. See below for my full proposal.
My proposal for a new Storage Minecart Detector would have three modes of operation, selectable through right-clicking (or something):
Detects ANY storage minecart that passes it (regardless of contents).
Detects any EMPTY (and ONLY empty) storage minecart that passes it.
Detects any FULL (and ONLY full) storage minecart that passes it.
And that's it.
The only modification to an existing detector block I'd be willing to support would be if the stone detector was given alternate modes similar to Modes 1 and/or 2 (since it currently behaves similar to Mode 3) of my Storage Minecart Detector proposal, but directed towards passenger minecarts instead. But, this is not something I'm going to push for.

I'm relatively new to minecraft, but I've done my research and that. I'd really like to construct an automated station. So here's my question:
What mode do you play on? When constructing stations do you use any mods to give you materials, or do you mine and farm them through normal gameplay?
I have two worlds which I play on and each has its own rules that I play by.
Survival World: In this world, I mine, farm, kill, and craft for everything I get. I play this world in Easy mode at present, but I'm thinking about upgrading to Normal.
Testing World: This is a customized world that I hack for items and play in Peaceful. This is where I try out new ideas to see how feasible they are and make them as resource efficient as possible for later (potential) inclusion in my Survival World. I used this world in the video I posted.
