I think notch should consider trying to get a gaming studio or producers to try and get Minecraft onto consoles. After notch perfects parts of the game, either before or after the beta, i think it would be a good idea just to see if he could get any companies at all to at least consider getting on board with this game. I truely believe this game could be HUGE if it hit consoles, especially with all the rave its getting right now on PC alone.
Take a look at Spore when it was good ol Maxis' creation (2006 demo?), and take a look at it today. As soon as EA took notice they thoroughly ****ed it and shipped it off as another piece of kiddy market crap. That said, Minecraft should stay independent.
Well, first of all, in order to even have a small chance at partnering with video game companies, Minecraft would have to be re-coded completely. And, I don't mean one or two lines of text need to be changed. I mean that EVERYTHING would have to be changed, and much, much more would have to be added. Creating a console video game would require a huge team of programmers, designers, etc..., and Minecraft probably wouldn't even make much profit, because it's not well-known.

They will look up at me, and yell "Save Us!". Then, I will look unto them and whisper "No."
bad bad idea, minecraft is an indie game and that is the reason for part of its success. notch has a heart~ EA --cough i mean corporations, have a sac of money
but doesnt xbox live have indie games? so actually, i believe its a possibility.
plus, the xbox live community is growing day by day, and popular indie games get eaten up by most gamers.
im not sure about ps3 tho
Seriously? On consoles? Sorry but honestly that's a stupid idea. This is a COMPUTER-ONLY game, because it wouldn't work out properly on consoles. In the sense of making the game "big" however, I'm guessing that as soon as Minecraft reaches Beta, it'll be advertised, with a trailer and everything possibly.
but doesnt xbox live have indie games? so actually, i believe its a possibility.

I refer you to the "Notch has a heart, corperations have sacks of money" argument. Minecraft would be reduced to dust within minutes on xBox Live or PS3 consoles due to the sheer ADD-like aspect of younger, more immature gamers who play XBox Live games.
For example, try to find me a really in-depth game on xBox. You can not. The closest thing to an in-depth game would be Spore, and that was ruined by consoles. Minecraft takes skill, determination, and an attention span to play.
What about updates? No xBox Live games get updates. Period. Notch has stated that he will be updating Minecraft periodically and adding features as the community suggests them and fixing bugs. Corperate executives NEVER listen to the community. The ONE time I've seen a big video game company listen to the community was Valve Software, in adding a Bile Bomb to Left 4 Dead 2.
Finally, NO xBox Live gamer would appreciate the style of Minecraft. In today's world where we're used to cutting-edge graphics, a video game is sometimes appraised on its graphical or visual approach (case in point: Crysis). The pixellated textures of Minecraft would not go over well at ALL on consoles played by kids and teens forcing themselves into a state of self-induced atention deficet disorder.
There's my argument. Thank you for listening (If you reply and say TL;DR I'm going to eat your soul) and may your consoles be struck down with the Red Rings of Death.
Consoles do not mean big games. Quality games, attention to consumer desire, and quality, bug free play make big games. For instance, all of Valve's games.
Absolutely not.
Taking Spore as an example, I remember when it was new and cool, just like Minecraft. EA saw it, got their grubby little hands on it, and look at it today. Shipping out everyday to video game stores everywhere. Widely recognized by almost all of the interwebz. I mean, Minecraft deserves that kind of attention, and I'm happy when Spore became an official EA game. But that's exactly the problem. EA. They think altering the graphics and adding one or two features makes it a spin-off. Tell me, would you like a copy of Minecraft 2: The Blocky Blocks of Blockiness floating around on the internet? I wouldn't mind if someone cool, like Valve or Blizzard co-developed it with Notch. But I swear - one spin-off, and I'm deleting Minecraft.

First off, what do you have against the xbox? You seriously have some sort of underlying reason to hate it, and it made this post so annoying for me to read. First, "younger, more immature players" are hardly predominant. Many xbox gamers are much older and more mature than the stereotype you happen to be throwing them all into.
Next, I'm going to assume that by "in-depth" you mean complex. In which case I'd like to point you towards games like both Assassin's Creeds and even games like Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts as well as Borderlands and Bioshock. And even if you weren't talking about complexity, and were talking about plot elements or such, all of those games also represent great storylines that are great at compelling the player.
"What about updates? No xBox Live games get updates. Period." Really? That has to be the worst claim I've ever seen. Every game I get, no matter how OLD, I'm required to download an update or else I can't play online. Yes, I even bought the old game "Fracture" not too long ago, and I was required to get an update. Sorry, but there's no validity to this claim at all. "Corperate executives NEVER listen to the community. The ONE time I've seen a big video game company listen to the community was Valve Software, in adding a Bile Bomb to Left 4 Dead 2." That is also a very insane claim, as I've seen both the Gears of War series, and Bungie (the makers of Halo) listen to their community. Any smart corporation does, and most of them do (whether you believe that or not).
Lastly, your claim about the graphics of MineCraft not going well is redundant. This study done by Major Nelson of xbox Live shows that Indie games receive many sales and many of those do not show off great styled graphics. And who is to say that MineCraft would not receive a graphical update when being added to consoles? Also, my xbox is one of the originals, and I've never received a Red Ring of Doom error (not to mention that error is completely obsolete at this point), and I don't think I will receive one.
im sure notch made this ON THE PC and not start on XBL because he advised it to be pc only.
i dont think minecraft would go along with xbox or consoles in general. its unique. and the "Update" for fracture, guerunteed was an OLD update, ofcourse youd need to update an old game, cus you dont have the Now old updates for it.
i have nothing against xbox at all, thats my favorite console to game. Minecrafts awesome epicness shouldnt be tooken by any of the console developers, there all just gunna mess it up. Notch is and forever should be the developer of this amazing game! <3
Minecraft is an unprecedented, unheard-of, different kind of game. It has Notch's loving fingerprints lovingly applied all over it. It's got that Indie flavor, if you will.
But to give it to a bureaucracy? "Big game companies" are "big game companies" because they go for the money. When a game company goes for the money, it becomes a big game company. Is Minecraft what it is because Notch wants the $$$? No!
If I don't think something is fun, I'll remove it. --Notch
You see? Notch does this because he loves us, he loves making Minecraft, and I'll be darned if it isn't the most fun thing I've ever played. if he did this for money, all that would be taken away. If some faceless, money-seeking corporation tried to make Minecraft, it'd be riddled with stuff "borrowed" from other, rival games on the market to try and keep up with the changing whims of customers.
It'd be missing that Notch touch that makes Minecraft... Minecraft.
Stay indie, Notch!

tl;dr: The quoted person's claims are invalid.
0. Firstly, I do hate consoles, I'm so glad you noticed ♥
1. I'm throwing people into a stereotype? How do you know I'm not talking about younger, more immature players who make up a portion of the population of xBox gamers? Never once did I say "All xBox Live gamers are young and immature."
2. Assassin's Creed, Banjo and however the hell you spell that bird thing, Borderlands, and Bioshock (I have played the latter 3 and know a good deal about the first) are all in a nearly constant state of action (well, maybe not Banjo and Kazooie, but look how downplayed that is compared to the others). You're either killing something, trying to not get killed by something, or looking for more ways to kill something. I don't give a **** about story or complex development. In Minecraft, you actually are not in a constant state of killing Creepers and skellingtons and spiders. I refer you to Argument #1 of how some gamers are forcing themselves into an artificial state of ADD brought on by constant action games. In my opinon, this is the least thought-out of your arguments.
3. Here's the one good part about your argument. I was, I admit, a bit rash in stating that no xBox Live games get updates. But unless the game is buggy as hell on release, the updates are not as frequent as Minecraft's updating system. And here's the rub - companies that do updates don't really put in community-created ideas. Only very infrequently will an executive be browsing a fansite or forum and say "Oh hey, that looks like a cool idea!" This is becasue time is money, and Notch actually cares about making his game fun, not just making it a cash cow. I know you're going to respond and say that this was completely stupid and that corporates do care about making fun games, but think about it - have you ever seen any good company employee with the soul that Notch has?
Creeper.
4. Again, I refer you to argument 2. Look at these games: "Headshot, Headshot 2, NextWar, Weapon of Choice" How can you tell me that games can have a slow, complex pace rather than a total action setting with a lineup like that? And if you look at some of these games' screenshots, they look pretty advanced graphics-wise. Sure, none of them have a Crysis or Bioshock approach to visuals, but none have the blocky, pixellated textures that Minecraft has. To the community here, these pixels are charming and fun to look at. That's true of about 3 in 10 xBox gamers. To the other 7, Argument 2 says that the graphics won't be charming to their states of artificial ADD.
5. Did you think I was serious about your consoles getting struck down with the red rings of death? Wow, you need a lesson in sarcasm appreciation (unless your message was sarcastic in tone as well, though it doesn't seem like it). Also, your TL;DR wasn't that sarcastic in tone either. Sorry if it was, but damn, that just seems plain mean-spirited.
Also, VALVe has done a LOT more than the boomer bile with the community. In tf2, the community did more than half the maps and a good portion of the weapons :tongue.gif:
And no one's complaining, because VALVe owns 80% of it's market and it can do anything it wants.
No really, they're that awesome. Really. Go play half-life 2.
So you're suggesting Notch hand over Minecraft, the greatest thing since sliced bread, to a mainstream corporation so that they can turn it into a high-end-graphics monstrosity for 3 year old children to play when they grow weary of Elmo? Bluntly put, the answer for all people who actually ENJOY Minecraft is no. Plus, it just wouldn't work on consoles. Seeing as the game continues when the inventory is opened, how long would it take a PS3 or an XBox controller to scroll ALL THE WAY to your sword/lava/torches while being eaten by Zombies? You'd be dead by the time you reach it, much less drag it to your hot bar. Plus, a mainstream corporation is bound to improve Minecraft's graphics, which are one of the things that make it stick out from the rest of games out there. You see NBA, FIFA, UFC, NBA, Call Of Duty, all amazing graphics. All of them are less fun. In my opinion Minecraft needs it's horrid graphics to ward off any twits who happen to find it in the first place.
The answer is so very obviously no. So much so that the 2-3 people that voted yes should be burned and then have a creeper explode on them, and then receive 300 lashes with the fishing rod.
