Dude, I'm hardly going to object to someone plugging their ideas. It's a lot easier than needing to copy paste the specific section of the thread and mess around with formatting.
I'm assuming from your descriptions that your idea just poses a straight wood/gold/iron/diamond, where the sticks are all replaced with the alternate material. while i can let that slide for tools and melee weapons, for a bow? I just can't go that far. I could possibly justify iron. Gold is already pushing outside of my range of believability and Diamond is just straight out ridiculous.
On another note, this would be freaking epic. No joke. +1 internets to you my friend.
I think if you try to enchant an "enchanting furnace" It would need 128 BLOCKS of light stone.
First off, this is expensive, and second you need to constantly monitor it.
I think it should cut the enchanting TIME in half, but not necessarily resources needed.

They would do 1HP of damage (1/2 the damage of flint) and only travel 1/2 the distance with a very emphasized curve due to their heavier weight. Enchanting them would bring their damage up to 1.5HP and completely remove their curve.
enchanting 6 gold arrows takes as much fuel as enchanting a full item.
cant you just have one stick, one feather and one gold bar? O.o
so you want an arrow that has 1/4 of a gold ingot on the end of it?
I am trying to say, why make these arrows expensive if they are just going to be weaker than flint ones :/
and I mean, just one ignot, one stick and one feather for the default amount of arrows you would get normally (or whatever you suggested, 12 I think it was)

basically because gold arrows are pretty stupid unless you can enchant them :tongue.gif: sticks and feathers are renewable resource anyway, so they're not really that "expensive" my crafting actually makes it less expensive than your version, since you only need 1/3rd of the gold as you need flint for making regular arrows, but still the same number of sticks and feathers per arrow.

I like your idea for "enchantment" somewhat, BUT permanent enchantment would be just too much...
not really, since the in order to get the permanent enchantment, you would need TWO gold Furnaces, which require a grand total of 144 Gold ingots JUST for the two furnaces. Even then, the "permanent" enchantment actually drains the durability twice as fast. Which means you need twice the amount of gold for those as well. and even then, tools and such still only have the strength of gold, so Enchanted sword still only does 2HP damage per shot, etc.
Okay, Gold Furnaces are now written as the standard for this idea. This is going to make it really rough to get your first enchanted item, but I think what these enchantments offer makes that worthwhile.
To put things in perspective (especially those that may clamor that these abilities are too overpowered) here's a breakdown of how much material you'd need to Permanently Enchant every single one of these items:
=lightstone dust, =redstone dust, =hellstone
Furnace = 72
Enchanted Furnace = +72
Helmet = +5 +5 /40 /320
Chestplate = +8 +5 /40 /320

Enchanted Watch - Can tell time of the overworld even in Nether. Right Clicking while holding Enchanted Watch will increase the speed of the game while right click is held. Day/Night will change faster, smelting will finish faster, other mobs will move faster enemy arrows will move faster, plants will grow faster, oxygen will deplete faster, empty minecarts and boats will move faster (but also slow down faster) PLAYER, PLAYER-FIRED ARROWS, AND PLAYER-RIDDEN BOATS & MINECARTS WILL NOT MOVE FASTER. Once Right Click is released, Watch will revert to Gold Watch.
NOTE: In SMP, Enchanted Watches will have a limited range for where the speed will increase, and will not be able to influence the Day/Night cycle.
Are you sure that this is not too overpowered? In SMP PVP combat, do you really want someone to have the ability to slow down time when ever they want to?
Personally, I think that the watch should break when you release Right Click, and the watch will break after speeding up time after a short wile. Also, watches should use more fuel and be unable to be permanently enchanted; putting a watch in a enchanted furnace results in the watch not breaking when used up.
*sighs * How did you manage to get just about every single detail here wrong?

(increasing speed means to speed UP, not slow down, and limited range means that it will only be able to affect a small area, and not other players)
So basically, even if a person used the enchanted watch in SMP, it would only be able to speed up the rate of growth of any planted saplings, speed up the smelting process of surrounding furnaces, and maybe make the mobs in their immediate vicinity faster (but they'd have to be close enough to them that the enemies would be attacking just THEM, not anyone else) and the enchanted watch simply wouldn't affect other players at all.

The "permanent" enchantment does not work on single use Enchanted items (like Enchanted Apple, Enchanted Watch, Enchanted Gold Block, and Enchanted Furnace) and will simply provide the same enchantment as if they had been run through a normal Magic furnace.
The idea about the watch breaking is worth considering though, as well as cutting the function in SMP to merely working in the Nether.
buuuuuuuuuuut, you wanna incorporate this into the Aether thread? :tongue.gif:
make it that there is a fuel that can only be obtained in the Aether :x
and it will be some how more effective and better than ever :biggrin.gif:
Yea, he made gold useful. For that, I give +3 internets and a golden puppy. However, I don't feel the need for this to be extended further than he already made it. I mean, it's an excellent idea, but who in their right mind is going to be able to get 72 gold ingots AND even more to get enchanted stuff? Do I have a point? :tongue.gif:
Or, if it should go into the aether thread, the enchantment MUST be much more awesome. :tongue.gif:

Personally, I'd like to have blocks only cost 4 ingots to make, or have a "small block" option that costs that much. That would let me reduce the price down to 32 instead of 72. Otherwise I'd have to go all the way down to just 8, and that's ridiculous.
This idea seems to encompass many updates that Notch can implement. I strongly dispprove of its features mainly for the fact that some are simply too far-fetched. If this was to be implemented into Minecraft, the entire game aspect would revolve greatly around crafting enchanted utility. Which in turn makes the game fairy-based. Also, it would take some hard time to balance the objects and tweak them to be fair.
Its not easy to just put in a magical pickaxe into the game
Why wouldn't it be easy? It's still a gold pickaxe, so it can't mine iron, gold, or diamond, but it can mine obsidian faster, and has a small chance at getting a diamond while mining coal. If the percentage is too high, just drop it down.
Diamond would still have the advantage in general power, speed, and durability, and iron would still be stronger and faster.

Nothing far fetched in my opinion, in fact it is a great and very reasonable idea.
