Magic Furnace: Crafting(Workbench) = Gold INGOT (used to be gold block, but that can get too damn restrictive)
[]
A Magic furnace is use the same way as a regular furnace, except instead of using wood, coal and lava to smelt blocks, it instead burns Lightstone Dust, Redstone Dust, or Hellstone blocks for fuel to turn a Gold Item into an Enchanted Item. Lightstone Dust is the most effective, requiring only 1-2 piece of dust (Or 1 Lightstone Block if the dust is considered too cheap) to handle the enchantment of a single item, Redstone is the next most effective, but requires 4-8x the amount of dust for a proper enchantment, and Hellstone is the least effective, requiring a full stack of 64 blocks to enchant the item.
The durability of Enchanted Items will always be one less than the Gold Item they were created from, but when their durability runs out, instead of breaking, they will simply revert back to the Gold Item they were created from with one less point of durability than what the Gold Item had at the beginning of the enchantment process. So a Gold Sword with 25 uses left, when enchanted through the Magic Furnace, will create an Enchanted Sword with 24 uses left, and when its durability runs out it will revert to a Gold Sword with 24 uses left. This can then be re-enchanted if desired. Trying to Enchant a Gold item that only has 1 durability left will only break it.
Enchanted items generally have the same strength/protection as the Gold Items they were created from, but with special abilities or bonuses that no other items have. (NOTE: Gold Tools/Weapons will be the only method of injuring insubstantial mobs or mining insubstantial blocks
Enchanted Furnace - If you run the Magic Furnace through ANOTHER Magic Furnace, it can actually itself be enchanted. Gold Items that are enchanted using the Enchanted Furnace will be "permanently" enchanted, so that when their durability runs out, they will not be replaced with a gold item, but with the same enchanted Item of the next 2 durability levels down(as if the gold item was automatically re-enchanted, de-enchanted and then re-enchanted again) The Enchanted Furnace uses 4 times as much fuel for each enchantment, and will revert back to a normal Magic Furnace after each item it enchants. On items that have no durability, like the Apple, Watch, and Gold Block, the "permanent" enchantment will have an entirely DIFFERENT effect than the regular enchantment.
Running a Magic Furnace through an Enchanted Furnace will turn it into an Enchanted furnace the same as running it through a Magic Furnace. Running an Enchanted Furnace through a Magic Furnace merely gives the Enchanted Furnace an extra use before it reverts back to a Magic Furnace. Running an Enchanted Furnace through a Magic Furnace merely gives the Enchanted Furnace an extra use before it reverts back to a Magic Furnace. Running an Enchanted Furnace through a Enchanted Furnace merely gives the Enchanted Furnace six extra uses before it reverts back to a Magic Furnace.
Enchanted Helmet - Breathe Underwater. Oxygen will still deplete, but when depleted will drain 1 durability point from the helmet for each extra bubble of oxygen used.
Enchanted Chestplate - The Player is immune to damage from fire and lava, and cannot catch on fire. Each point of damage that is prevented will drain the armor durability by 1.
Enchanted Leggings - doubletap direction to sprint. Every second of sprinting subtracts 1 durability from leggings. (If sprinting is implemented using the Oxygen bar for endurance, then Leggings will keep the last oxygen bubble from being lost)
Enchanted Boots - Pressing jump while mid-air will let the player jump again at the cost of 1 durability point. The mid-air jump is 1.5 blocks high, allowing players to get a maximum of 2.5 blocks. (If Jump height is increased, then the midair jump height will be increased proportionally)
Enchanted Sword - Glows purple when an enemy has sighted you and is trying to attack you (works like compass; does not need to be held to work) Mobs hit with the enchanted gold sword will not get a temporary immunity, and can be hit as fast as the player can swing the sword. Mobs killed with an Enchanted Sword will double the range of the number of items to be dropped (0-4 feathers/meat/arrows/gunpowder/etc instead of 0-2)
Enchanted Shovel - Digging Gravel or Sand will automatically mine any sand or gravel blocks that fall into the same area. Digging the same block type consecutively and without switching away from the shovel will increase its speed to that of stone after the first 16 blocks dug, iron after the next 8, and diamond after the next 4 blocks dug.
Enchanted Axe - Chopping the lowest log block of a tree(if the log block has a dirt or grass block under it) first will automatically break all logs in that tree section, along with breaking all leaf blocks directly adjacent to the log blocks in that tree.(each log section breaks, breaks all adjacent leaf blocks, checks for any log blocks that are horizontally adjacent or directly above, and tells those log blocks to repeat the process. 1 durability will be used for each extra log block broken, but all logs will be broken even if durability runs out)
Enchanted Pickaxe - Mines Obsidian in 1/5th time of diamond.(does not mine Iron, Gold, Redstone, or Diamond) 2% chance of Diamond dropping while mining Coal Ore.
Enchanted Hoe - Hitting Dirt block converts to tilled soil, and the block will act as if next to water, even if in the Nether, as long as the block remains tilled. Seeds will drop at double rate when gathered with Gold Hoe.
Enchanted Gold Block - When placed on the ground, enemies in the area will ignore the player and attack the Enchanted Gold Block (provided that they are capable of getting to it to attack it successfully, otherwise it will be ignored) The Enchanted Gold Block can be broken by enough enemy attacks. When broken, the enchanted block drops a Regular Gold Block. "Permanent" Enchanted Gold Block - The Enchanted Gold Block will pulse purple the closer the player is to Gold Ore.
Enchanted Apple - The Enchanted Apple will not recover any HP of the player while they are still alive, but will instead put an effect on the player that will fully heal them when their Health drops to 0. The player will know this effect is present by their hearts turning yellow/gold. "Permanent" Enchanted Apple - The Player will gain an extra Heart, to a Maximum of 20. This will last until the player dies.
Enchanted Watch - The Enchanted Watch can tell the overworld time even when in the Nether. Will function as a regular watch in all other respects. "Permanent" Enchanted Watch - Right Clicking while holding Enchanted Watch will increase the speed of the game while right click is held. Day/Night will change faster, smelting will finish faster, other mobs will move faster enemy arrows will move faster, plants will grow faster, oxygen will deplete faster, empty minecarts and boats will move faster (but also slow down faster) PLAYER, PLAYER-FIRED ARROWS, AND PLAYER-RIDDEN BOATS & MINECARTS WILL NOT MOVE FASTER. Once Right Click is released, Watch will revert to Gold Watch.
NOTE: In SMP, Enchanted Watches will have a limited range for where the speed will increase, and will not be able to influence the Day/Night cycle.
Enchanted Knife - Glows like Enchanted Gold Sword when an enemy has sighted you and is trying to attack you. Can be thrown multiple times without it leaving the player's inventory. (cannot be picked back up by player, and will disappear rapidly) Double durability and weaker damage still applies.
Enchanted Hand Pick - Mines Obsidian at 2/5th rate of diamond pickaxe, (does not mine gold, iron, or diamond ore) 1% chance of diamond dropping from coal ore.
Enchanted Hatchet - Same as Enchanted Axe, except only log blocks break, no leaf blocks. Breaking a leaf block will break all adjacent leaf blocks as well.
Enchanted Trowel - Digging Gravel or Sand will automatically mine any sand or gravel blocks that fall into the same area. Digging the same block type consecutively and without switching away from the trowel will increase its speed to that of stone after the first 8 blocks dug and iron after the next 6
Enchanted Boomerang - The boomerang will continue flying out for as long as Right Click is held. The Enchanted Boomerang will lose (Total range of Enchanted throw/max range of normal Boomerang - 1) number of points of durability each throw, plus whatever durability is lost from grabbing items or hitting a mob.
Enchanted Small/Full Shield - Arrows and other projectiles are reflected in direction player is aiming, provided they are successfully blocked. This works on projectiles like the Ghast Bomb even without using Shield bash. 1 extra point of durability is subtracted from shield each time this happens. (2 for larger projectiles like Ghast bomb)
Enchanted Hypnowatch - Will be able to Hypnotize hostile mobs, but uses double the standard durability to do so.
Also adding in Golden Quarrels from Rangecraft. Enchanted Golden Quarrels - Still do only 3 damage, but travel completely straight, but will bounce off the first block they hit allowing shots to richochet off walls. Each Golden Quarrel takes 1/8th as long to enchant as any other Golden Item. "Permanent" Enchanted Golden Quarrels - Still do only 3 damage, but travel completely straight, but will bounce off the first block they hit allowing shots to ricochet off walls, and will travel up to 500 blocks distance before stopping.(provided they don't hit another block after ricocheting. Each Golden Quarrel takes 1/8th as long to enchant as any other Golden Item.
I'll also include the Gold Bucket related to a Midas Tears suggestion that I think would do well implemented in the Nether. (Link to it will come when posted)
Enchanted Bucket (Empty) - Right clicking on any liquid will pick it up while still leaving the bucket empty (even lava). This will last from the time the player first uses the bucket to the time that they switch to a different item or open their inventory. 'Permanent" Enchanted Bucket (Empty) - Right clicking on any liquid will pick it up while still leaving the bucket empty (even lava). The "Permanent" Enchanted Bucket (empty) has the additional ability to even remove liquid FLOW blocks, though they'll fill back in if the source is still present and is still set to flow into that space.
Enchanted Bucket (Full) - (Made from enchanting any Non-empty Gold Bucket) Right clicking will place a water block without the bucket becoming empty. This will last from the time the player first uses the bucket to the time that they switch to a different item or open their inventory. "Permanent" Enchanted Bucket (Full) - (Made from enchanting any Non-empty Gold Bucket) Right clicking will place a water block without the bucket becoming empty.
Quite a nice idea actually :tongue.gif: I like it a lot, would add more need for brightstone and gold + would give us new items that are actually pretty cool (really like the armor, basic tools, and enchanted gold block ideas), very creative :biggrin.gif: Good job!
Okay, I just added the attribute to the Enchanted Chestplte as keeping you from actually CATCHING on fire, even though you can still be harmed by directly touching lava or fire, the player will immediately stop being on fire once they stop touching the flames/lava.
Somebody else apparently likes the Normal Furnace can enchant stuff idea, but I think I'm actually leaning away from it myself.
Hrmmm... not sure what I think about this yet. I do have an idea for a pair of Nether mobs that I'm hoping to put up tonight or tomorrow that might have an effect on this idea. I'm gunna devote some of my mind grapes to this for the rest of my shift.
Thanks for catching that. I had completely no clue until you pointed that out. I had originally been trying to eke out one more hyperlink so I could have kept my Repair&Deconstruction thread in it, but the forums only let me post 5 URLS. LAAAAME.
Also, used the chance to update the Shovel and Trowel, as well as the Hoe description. I'm now much more satisfied with this idea as a whole.
Eh, I think it should use a different mechanic other than a "furnace." A different form of an existing mechanic isn't really all that exciting. It should certainly be in the game in some form, and I think Notch already has plans for something like it, although I think he described it more as a bench rather than a furnace.
I'd also like to see it use new materials in addition to some old materials.
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
When all is said and done, Will you have said more than you have done?
New materials/blocks/workbenchstyles don't inherently make things exciting either, and there are much better ways for those type of things to be introduced.
The point here is to make Gold worthwhile, nothing more than that, because it doesn't need anything more than that. Just the enchantments I've listed here alone would greatly change pretty much every aspect of how people view gold; instead of "oh more gold, is it even worth using my iron pick on or should I just bypass it" it would be "WOOT! GOLD! do I want the shoes that let me mid air jump? maybe the leggings that let me run faster..? the glowing sword would help stop sneak attacks... but the pick might give me a chance to get diamond from mining coal... I can't decide!"
I would prefer the watch slows down time for everything else.
*Enemy jumps on me and tries to slash me*
"I got you now!"
"O Rly?"
*Uses enchanted watch*
*Dodges*
*Shoots 15 arrows at enemy*
*Enemy hits ground*
It would be VERY good combined with enchanted sword no?
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
Wrong sir, wrong. YOU stole the fizzy lifting drinks and YOU touched the ceiling, therefor it must be washed and sterilized! So you get nothing! You lose! Good day sir!

Slowing things down sounds nice, but it's in practice, it's pretty much ONLY useful for combat. I felt that too many of the enchantments already focused on things that would benefit combat, and that the watch (not being a combat item) should be used for something without combat capabilities. Mainly, it just speeds up the time for a while so you can grow your trees faster or finish smelting faster, or just get to day or night which is when something you want will happen (either enemies dying so you can be safe, or enemies spawning so you can fight them), or if you're waiting for the next minecart to come by.
But how do you speed up time in multiplayer?
Besides, slowing down time isn't only a combat thing! what if you need to get away from that lava, or jump on a speeding minecart?

Wrong sir, wrong. YOU stole the fizzy lifting drinks and YOU touched the ceiling, therefor it must be washed and sterilized! So you get nothing! You lose! Good day sir!
It only speeds up time in a radius around that player, and doesn't affect the day/night cycle at all.
Besides, slowing down time isn't only a combat thing! what if you need to get away from that lava, or jump on a speeding minecart?
A) lava doesn't move that fast, :cool.gif: Enchanted Chestplate would protect you from the lava better than needing to take the time to specifically switch to the watch and hold right click down.
C) as for the speeding minecart, the Enchanted leggings will let you run faster, so probably that would make it easier to catch the minecart, but even without it's generally not that hard once you get your timing down.
What if you enchant an enchanted furnace with an enchanted furnace?
Yeah, yeah, I know, that's why I already stated permanent enchantements don't work on a single use item, like the watches, apples and furnaces. so all you'd do is enchant one furnace and lose the enchantment on teh furnace you enchanted it with. all you do is lose some hellstone, redstone or lightstone
LOL not through this system. There would need to be a Gold bow first (one that makes sense on its own, and not just for enchantment purposes) but just for theheck of it, what would you be expecting the Enchanted bow to do? I've generally tried to avoid the "it's stronger!" deals with all of my recipes.

You are speaking to the right man :biggrin.gif:
I am working on implementing different bow types, and I was thinking that you could maybe shoot two arrows at a time OR rapid fire OR no curve on your arrows (however I have already put in a suggestion for a magnum arrow, they have no curve when they fly and they are pretty much instant)
More importantly the bow should be able fire more powerful arrows ....
yes, I just suggested what you tried to avoid :biggrin.gif:
to sum up:
no curve OR rapid fire OR power increase OR two arrows fired at once
Actually your "No Curve" suggestion is a good one, provided its flight speed isn't any faster. It wouldn't give THAT big of an advantage over a regular bow, yet at the same time people would probably find it superbly convenient.
The only issue to overcome now is to determine what crafting recipe would make a gold bow and not end up looking retarded?
I have been told once not to advertise in other people's threads, but can I be of an exception just once :> ?
(I was told nicely btw, it was misunderstood as advertising, instead I was showing examples of what the bow could be like with more arrow head expansions)
Grey, don't look if you dont want to, however I would like you to see my list and ideas (some aren't mine, that is acknowledged) just to get the ball rolling on your magic furnace idea :>
The URL is in my sig, and no, I am not advertising my thread to get more supports >3<
All you need to look at is basically the first section about bow types, however I also have more arrow head types that you may classify as abilities for an enchanted bow.
