Environment: Any, as long as there are caves present. AI: Hostile Drop: While alive - Meat, leather (normal) While stone - Trollstone Misc: I would consider this to be a terrifying over-world spawning monster. The trolls would spawn in caves that opened to the surface, or any other dark area. The are very fast and strong. I would say they should never spawn more than two in a given area at one time.
They're pretty big (the block of stone in it's mitts below is normal size) and strong, and they can gallop across the terrain like a charging gorilla. I imagine them coming out of their caves at night and prowling the area, if one happens to see you (and I think they should be able to see you from a bit further than zombies and other mobs) they'll howl a terrifying howl and start to charge at you. This gives the player the chance to turn and see the beast gallop through the night towards him/her.
Such a strong beast has weaknesses though. Mainly light. Torchlight slows and possible does minor damage to it. If you can whip out some torches in time and throw them down around you, the troll will stay back from your barrier of light. The fight is not over! He'll saunter a bit back and start to grab rocks to throw at you. whole blocks of dirt and rock would start to fly your way, and destroy your torches if the troll aims well enough. This is your time to sling arrows at him. If you don't have a bow and arrow... well then you'll have to lure him in by dousing your torches, throw a couple down to stun/slow him and start to whack away at him at close range.
Another possibility would be to surround him with torches and pin him in. That could contain him so you can leave or pick him off from a distance.
Finally, once the sun rises, if the troll is too far from his cave to retreat from the light, he turns to stone. At night time, he'll revert to his terrifying self, but he'll be vulnerable throughout the entire day.
If you destroy the troll while he's petrified, he drops a block of Trollstone. This would be a light sensitive block that could be used for redstone systems and to make armor that was more durable during the day, but lighter at night. You could smelt the Trollstone into Trollsteel to make the armor.
Please, let me know what you think and how you would change the setup. I think this could be a truly challenging monster to encounter.
dude first of all i love these "custom graphics" that you do, second of all so far i love everything you suggest, 3rd of all to EVERYTHING you will ever post =D
This is a sweet suggestion and also a sweet graphic! This thing would be a great addition to the game. I just had this horrible image of tunneling up from the surface right into a trollden. D:

Every time I come to these forums, I think more and more that I'm the only person who plays Minecraft normally.
Every time I come to these forums, I think more and more that there is no such thing as playing Minecraft normally.
I endorse this product and/or service. Nice concept, excellent graphics. I agree that they should be slower though, and resistant to arrows. If they were TOO fast you wouldn't have time to throw down torches before he's eating your kidneys for breakfast.
Their normal walk around speed would be normal, if not slow. But when they charge, it would be frightening. Hopefully you'll spot it before it spots you. If not, then the howl should give you a warning and then it has to charge. I think side stepping could work, but they aren't rhinos. They would be able to adjust their trajectory a bit. But a last minute side step would prevent you from suffering the first blow.
Ooh, a hostile mob! I like the idea, but I think it should have a set time of charge. Like, a universal run period before it hits something or the time ends. Like, say, 6 seconds of charging? I then think that it should only be able to turn within the last 2 seconds of the run.
I don't know if i like this guy. He almost seems a little too simple to me. The stone effect and his pose there is the only thing that saves this for me.
@GreyAcumen - You mean the texture, the model, the concept or everything?
I'm not sure exactly. It's a gut level thing right now and it's just on the borderline... I think it might be because it looks a little similar to a Yeti design someone came up with, but this fits better into Minecraft.
I think it has to do with the model structure itself. Your other work has been fairly unique. The Mole could be reskinned to be a sea turtle, but it still definitely could not get confused with a spider or chicken no matter how you reskinned it. Your Octopus is the same, no possible way to confuse it with anything else.
This Troll? If we reskinned him, he'd just look like a fat zombie. And he's got the same type of light sensitivity issues, just that he'll be actively avoiding all light, and sunlight will just freeze him instead of killing him, but it's still something else out during the night and not at daylight.
I think it's just general comparison. Your other stuff has all filled unique niches and unique ways of interacting with them, while still retaining Minecraft's style. This guys fits the style, but just doesn't seem to fill a niche. He's another enemy that has a ranged attack, just bigger and uses rocks instead of arrows.
Yeah, it's not so much that he's bad, it's just that while he's good, your other work is awesome.

It could possibly drop various stone an/or wooden weapons, where it could be things they crafted or looted from other earlier miners they attacked.
Oh, and this thread deserves a .
The rags would be either darker or lighter then cowhide but it would only be a cosmetic change(also like the armor).
Also, they should spawn under bridges. :3
How do you do your graphics? Blender?
i like the poses, especially him shielding himself. Looks mad as. I honestly prefer your concept.
Good suggestions:
Titans
Combat
Domestication
That looks amazing. :ohmy.gif:
I wonder if it'd be a bit hard to implement him throwing rocks at you, though...
Shouldn't be too bad, as long as they break upon impact.
Though I think the blocks he throws would be spawned like the cannonballs the ghast spits.

that be great....love the concept art. Would be ineteresting to see them implemented
It sounds like a very neat thing to add to the game. Your custom graphics are great BTW :biggrin.gif:
