We already have boat (non stackable object):
[] [] []
[]
Now add the following (object type and additional possible uses for components included in parentheses):
[*:yviaff7o]Component: Sail (inventory stackable sprite) (hot air balloons are suggested elsewhere and sails could be used in their fabrication as well. maybe kites and tents too?) ( = cloth):
[] []
[]
[] = 1 sail ( = sail)
[*:yviaff7o]Component: Rope (inventory stackable tile) (can be used like a ladder but much slower movement) ( = string) ( = plant hemp-basic resource not in game yet):
[]
[]
[]
or
[]
[]
[] = 1 rope ( = rope)
[*:yviaff7o]Component: Rope Coil:
= 1 rope coil ( = rope coil)
[*:yviaff7o]Component: Medium Hull (nonstackable object. = iron block. = boat):
[] [] []
[*:yviaff7o]Component: Large Mast (nonstackable object) (other than being used as a component, can be placed anyplace with 3 squares tall of space and can double architecturally as a flagpole or spire--could even be used in a simple recipe for flags or banners if we ever get those):
[] []
[] []
[] [] = 1 large mast ( [>>-i>] = large mast)
Then start putting these together into boats with various speeds, storage areas, deck sizes, # of players it can accommodate. And looking forward to types of mplayer, even number of defensive stations?
(Note that row boat speed should be MASSIVELY reduced for any of these to make sense!)
Some suggestions (substitute symbols from above are still in effect!):
[*:yviaff7o]Simple Sailboat (slightly larger boat than we have now with a spot you click to pilot as well as small 3 x 3 built in storage. moves at the speed of our current boats. yes I suggest the nerf to our current boats :tongue.gif: Hate me.):
[] []
[]
[] []
[*:yviaff7o]Large Sailboat (same as above, but 6 x 3 storage and room for up to two more passangers):
[*:yviaff7o]Small Cargo Ship (large ship with space on deck and below deck. 3 built in storage points the size of 1 small chest on deck. 2 storage points the size of 2 chests below decks. Up to 7 players can board the ship at any given point. Boarding ladder on one side. Can only travel and be placed in water that is 4 squares deep.):
[]
[>>-i>]
[] []
[*:yviaff7o]Large Cargo Ship (very large ship. 5 built in storage points on deck size of small chest. two decks below deck. 6 storage points the size of double chests below deck. 1 furnace on deck. Up to 15 players can board and ride the ship. Boarding ladder on both sides. Can only travel and be placed in water that is 5 squares deep.):
[>>-i>] [>>-i>]
[*:yviaff7o]War Ship (whaling ship?!?) (large ship designed for combat. has gunnery points that are like single square windows, open with barrels next to each one providing 3 x 3 storage for weapons and ammo. Limited cargo with only 2 storage points the size of single chests. 1 Furnace on board below deck. Can only travel and be placed on water that is 4 squares deep.) ( = Iron Block):
[>>-i>] [>>-i>] []
So those are some ideas for shipwright recipes as well as some loose ideas of what ships could travel where and how. If the recipes seem sort of resource intensive, they should. If they don't, well those component recipes need to be revised towards the more expensive.
I also realize that ships of this magnitude would represent an entire new game system. But still, if we're going to get big big vast oceans, we should have the vessels suitable for crossing them!

ah yesfirst of all spending half an hour to deleate all but my subject not cool X X
i mostly liketed the boat idea but to tell you the truth in real life you don't need several iron bars to make a hull
other wise this is perfect also ghot pirates are a cool idea prehaps they can drob some soul material which when crafted into weapons provides extra dammage to them and stuff in the nether also we could pobably make a necromancer sword wich can resurect 5 bones into a skeleton warrior whice will attack hostile mobs to make it follow the recipe below ( =souls)
for a crystal ball represnted as

youcould also use the ball for decroation but whatever i get sleepy after 1 hour long comments
We need tools that are effective underwater, because if we're going to have something to harvest underwater then I'm positive that we'll have a problem because it takes so long to harvest things in the water.
Water depth / Water pressure, Plastic diving suits can only sustain you at a certain depth for a limited time. Ion armor (Iron / Diamond and restone???) can support you in medum depths for almost nigh infinite times but needs to recharge (Solar charge???) to be at max depth

This would make it SO much worse.. THe ocean is freaky as HELL! Top researchers don't even know half of what's down there. O.o
But they better add a jet ski! <3

Minecraft the scariest game? You've never played anything in the horror genre, have you?
Anyways, Looks like there will be some ocean updates in the future, if Notch's mention of "more underwater content" means anything special.
I've played some pretty scary stuff.. Resident Evil, AvP 2 (which was pretty scary when I was a kid), Dead Space, Silent Hill..
But in Minecraft, you don't ever know what to expect.. "What? A cave? How fun!" "ssss"
It's always randomly generated, too. And the spawning is random too. One moment you're safe, and the next....
Anyway, oceans would be pretty damn scary if they were bigger and had more hostile mobs. Especially at night, can you imagine?! D:
Maybe make a "pressure suit"?
You need:
Air pump(doubles as a pump if we ever get pipes, =redstone)

You would place this on a solid block next to water, and a pump and a suit will spawn(suit spawns over water). When you enter, the suit sinks like a rock. While in the suit, you have infinite oxygen and spawn pipes from you to the pump. When the pump or pipeline is broken, you exit the suit atomatically.
I agree that these ideas would be cool, but I would rather that notch concentrated on the surface first. I, personally, don't go into the water that much.

YES! YEEEESSS!
They were right, the squid was really just like a test water mob. So maybe visible fishy and hopefully shark!
My Website. I make mods for Minecraft and am also making my own game.

Also eat any other unsupecting mob. (Any!)
Wouldn't that be like Monstro from Pinocchio?
I thought I had a pretty good idea...
