Great concept, I think that toning the size down a little would probably be a good idea but what if every now and then you found like a cave that had a massive full sized dragon in it in which eggs would be found. These "elder" dragons would be completely bad ass and would stop at nothing to get their eggs back, possibly even destroy shelters, thereby forcing the player to actually slay the dragon instead of running away, or making a cavern that the dragon cant fit in. also there should be medium sized, slightly more common dragons that guard some kind of treasure filled chests (probably filled with just redstone, diamonds, gold, and possibly some shiny and hard to get craftables). and last but not least there should be small "baby" dragons that will be seen roaming around the tops of mountains, and flying in the air. tell me what you think :smile.gif:
How 'bout this:
Upon hearing the death-knell of its zealous caretaker, the monsters descend upon the egg ready to feed. You have to defend it until it hatches, or it will be eaten and destroyed!
That's not all. You have to craft a special Dragon Mask helmet out of redstone and netherblock. And you have to combine that with the extract of the Dragon-weed plant. A rare plant that repels potential predators by smelling like a huge-ass dragon. If you find and create both things, and wear it as the baby is hatching, it will be fooled into thinking you're it's mother. But you can't have more than one dragon at a time, because your little hatchling won't let them lay a hand on their MOTHER. Fortunately, it will also rip out mobs' jugulars when it's with you.
Unfortunately, as a human, you can't feed your dragon properly and it will always remain small and cute (and malnourished). And you won't be able to teach it to hunt. Or fly long distances. Or hoard. And it will sleep. A lot. Wherever you are when night-time comes, it'll just lie down and go to sleep, when you need it the most. Or, if you had extra Dragon-weed, you could plant it in your base to make a nest, where the dragon'll recognize and go to day after day.
Also, dragons should exist in the Nether AND the overworld, but the overworld variety should be a lot smaller and weaker, with less treasure. They are neutral to you unless you attack them or try anything with their eggs.
But the dragons in the Nether are different. They are big and mean and strong. Their scarred and rough hide takes more hits than an overworld dragon, and much like Ghasts, they shoot fireballs. But in their lair is unimaginable treasure, too much loot to carry and more eggs than a normal dragon. But if you try to hatch the egg, you'll be attacked by zombie pig-men and Ghasts. And Nether dragons aren't neutral. If they spot you and your shiny little armor while flying, they'll start to attack. They know about the shiny little adventurers and their tiny arrows.
I'm familiar with the model format at this point and I just wanted to say that coding in the dragon, especially with that kind of detail (note the rotations) would take absolutely FOREVER to code. There are so many polygons in that model.... geez. I'm glad you made them all rectangular prisms, because every angle in a body part is always 90 degrees. Still even if this made it into the game, chances are it would render horribly. Just look at the cow's horns and DrZhark's bear's nose. Any details that are dustant from the center of the body are rendered improperly due to a graphical glitch that makes them appear to be off to the side.
Again, I like the model, but i dont believe anyone here is skilled enough, has the time, and is insane enough to put this model in the game.

Stupidity on the rise with a 40% chance of shitstorms.
Now saying that, maybe it has a fire ball attack that shoots a a further range so its hard to fight EVEN THEN. Basically a moderate speed large ball of fire that when on cantact with playor or the ground causes the nearby area to be set on fire, 12 blocks in diameter.
cubes are measured in area, actually. ;p But this looks awesome. Is this a suggestion or a mod? i am disletcsic so Im not sure.
I would love to this as Mob Boss. But instead of just killing and taking the dragons eggs to make it into a ridable air mount, the Dragon be a neutral mob until provoked, like the Zombie Pigmen. And it should be a fairly curious creature as you are the only true human in the world and be able to bond with it, though this would take time and you would have to give it gifts of cooked ham to even let you come near it.
All in all, this would be a great addition. I hope Notch does add dragons to this game!!
I just want to say your mob ideas are AMAZING! I think they all should be added at some point and your ideas have made me realize how absolutely positively awesome minecraft could be! I mean it is awesome now, but it could really be anything in the future! The dragon is by far my favorite epically the stealing the egg and raising you own dragon idea. I can just see myself riding a horse (hopefully they get added at some point) and assaulting a dragon's cave, stealing his/her? (Its) eggs and various treasures! Anyways thank you for adding immense anticipation for the future of MC :biggrin.gif: And keep it up with the awesome mob ideas!

*salutes* I am Dave! Yognaut! (If you know what this means, then copy it into your sig)
adding a roped arrow/ballista to bring them down would be AWESOME then secure it down and run around and starting beating on it's tummy while dodging fire balls and hoping it doesn't burn the arrows and release it back into the air! Would also be a fair point to make that two dragons should live nearby each other the male being there to help protect and one always being on guard this'd also bring up a requirement to actually use some skill and find it's nest, the nest of course should be made out of lava held back by obsidian with massive chests filled with goodies!
Edit Being that their massively rare and would have to be tracked to get the eggs, saddled the babies (should have to get the young to ride parents should naturally be hostile) and get your sack of diamond from it's stash, i think it should be breath black fire (scorching the ground black and leaving black burning trees on it's way around the world.) it should also be inclined to find you and try to breaking into any none underground buildings and steal your treasure! Would be very neat to have it poop after eating pig men and creapers dropping larger amounts of it's natural drop a few seconds after digestion.
Drops - Ignition stones when combined with irons would form a stone that would randomly burst into flames evaporating water above it, dragon scale - armor duh. Teeth/Fangs form poisoned weapons Claws creating reusable arrows that do massive damage.
I think that if you beat a dragon, and you have a saddle, ( I can't make a crafting thing for the saddle, it wont let me:(
that it collapses, giving you all its loot, and eggs so you can get more dragons, but also be able to right click the dragon with the saddle giving you a permanent, controllable, flying mount :biggrin.gif:.
The basics of this being Wyrmling, Young, Juvenile, Adult, Old, Ancient.
Which would roughly translate to: Baby, Child, Teen, Adult, Old, Older than time.
Monster Ideas: Poltergeist and Shadow
Dynamic Water
Scaffolding Blocks
Bone Block for the Nether
