Just some personal opinions (Sorry if it was posted after page 8, I just don't have time to read anymore);
Shield should be automatically active when you aren't actively swinging something. Who wears a shield and then only readies it some of the time? Large shields should impose a 20% move speed reduction. Small shields should impose a 10% speed reduction. On the other hand, they act as a constant damage reduction until they break, unlike armor.
The speed reduction is already in place since you have to sneak to use it, and so your question about why someone would have a shield equipped and not be actively guarding is already answered; Players can move faster without it actively guarding, players can see better without it obscuring their view, players can NOT attack while actively guarding, however if the shield is up then attacks from the front are completely absorbed and don't even transfer damage to the armor.
Dynamite/powder bombs should be craftable with an arrow to make an explosive shot. Say two powder bomb either side of an arrow. (As shown here)
[>>-i>]
[]
And it simply allows you to a) set off TNT with less precision needed; :cool.gif: explodes in an appropriate-to-the-explosive area around the shot location, doing normal damage. Does not stack.
And lastly, Torch Arrows, if they hit a mob, should do no damage but set it on fire for a second. this does two things; Takes their health down a half-heart, and lights not only them up but the surrounding area, so it's easier to see. Much like how a modern-day tracer round functions.
mobs that are on fire don't cast light. You obviously haven't seen the new design for the Torch Arrows that are implemented in the Mod, but essentially, it's just a torch tied to an arrow, that's how it's always been conceived. Even if there's a torch attached to it, you're still hitting a mob with an arrow, so it should do just as much damage as an arrow, and torches have never set mobs on fire, so why should they when they're attached to an arrow?
Because we've never before swung a torch to smack a mob with it before, perhaps? A stationary torch isn't very likely to burn someone unless they go out of their way to touch it. But if you're -shooting a torch into someone- even if it's too unwieldy to actually do any real damage, it should still ignite them.
As for lighting up the area- While it doesn't actually spread any radiance, it DOES light it up when you're in a dark area enough for you to tell rough distance, height, etc. of what you hit; If you are at all familiar with the area it also greatly helps you figure out current location, if you don't have a torch-trail or similar already made.
And I'm saying shields should be active any time you aren't actively swinging. When you walk around, not sneaking, with a shield on- Do you just let it dangle at your side, useless? No, you hold it against your body, in case of ambush and for ease of travel. Shields should still do a direct absorption of damage until they break, but having to ready it by sneaking is silly. Also, they shouldn't just block attack from the front, but also the side that holds the shield in case of the large shields- small shields, ie bucklers, should remain front only. As for the speed reduction, I'm talking ON TOP OF the reduction of sneaking, if you wanted to sneak. Remove the inability to attack/do stuff while blocking. People didn't throw their shield arm wide open just to swing/stab with their weapon.
And no, I specificially posted the thought about the powder bomb-tipped arrows here because this is where powder bombs were first mentioned, in conjuction with torch arrows and the like, and would be made following the same 2x2 grid format found in this topic.

It says something about 'cannot find Stepcoal1.png'
And when i start minecraft, it goes to black screen and crashes with i try to log in..... it shows the mojang logo....
Please help i really want to get this mod to work it looks so awesome.
Then install the mod properly and stop trying to take the image files out of the folder that they came in.
Then again, that's a much longer log than merely misplacing the image files usually gets, did you go through and just try to drag and drop the entire zip folder into minecraft.jar?
I'm all but positive you're not unpacking or copying something over properly though.
I have the toomanyitems mod, and I think I have the extra ID mod, but anyway. I look in my toomanyitems, and lone behold, there is a Lit Nether sword, and a lit nether dagger.. I'm either blind, or it's not on the front page.. It just lights things on fire..pretty cool.
If you (by chance) read my (one) other post, you'll know that I love to give constructive criticism. I am here to say one thing: the idea that you cannot harvest trees without an ax is realistic, but in minecraft, I hate the idea. It strays the game to much, in my opinion. It becomes much tougher to survive the first night if wood isn't a given resource. My relation to this is, I downloaded this mod, but because of the "no wood without axes" thing, I got rid of it. Plain and simple. I would be much happier with this mod if that were not a feature (or if it were made toggleable, if at all posssssssssible).
I dont think this mod should be added, but that's just me personally.. I think a better 2x2 Grid Crafting would take the "survival" aspect out of the game.... But thats just me, Dont troll on my personal opinion..

Easy or Peaceful.
That's an extra component that makes the higher difficulties actually harder, instead of just going the lazy-man's way out and saying "lol moar helth 4 mobz and moar damg done 2 u!"
Good ideas but some of the items and blocks should be crafted using the 3x3 crafting grid.

No they shouldn't. I'd offer to go into detail, but it's been done before. Every recipe in here makes sense on 2x2 and either has no purpose or doesn't make sense on 3x3.
Why should we have smaller tools? They become obsolete the moment you get 1 wood block. Why would I want to craft planks out of saplings? 50 saplings just to get started = not enough time to find coal. The 2x2 grid is MEANT to be useless. And why on earth would you NEED this, you can just carry 4 planks on you at all times! ~40% of people DON'T want this. Think of it this way: Some of us don't want to be forced to use this in vanilla play. So just keep it as a mod and close this thread.

I don't know about closing the thread. The small tools are for ON THE GO! In case you don't have a crafting table with you in the nether or in a cave. I like this mod and if you don't like it, then don't use it. No reason to whine and ***** in the thread. And where the hell did you read about 40% of people not wanting this?
he interpreted the first voting option as the only one that supports this as a suggestion. Basically, the same poor math interpretation skills that makes him think you need 50 saplings to start playing. (10 saplings = hatchet, 14 = hand pick. wut?)

My bad on the 40% :/ But really, who DOESN'T carry at least 4 planks on them? If you don't have enough planks for a crafting table, then why would you have the wood for any decent tools either? I don't recal saying I hated the mod, I thinkt he mod is great. Whoever made it is pretty good. But I don't want this added to vanilla play. If you don't have the planks for a table, you deserve to suffer for it.
(On the side note: I support some of this, ex: The flint recipe and the sling. But a portable grill? Needing saplings for planks? Needing hatchet/axe for wood? It makes no sense. How would I gather 50 saplings for a standard planks amount and still have time to get coal?)
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
At a loss for words? Here's a few you can use: Welcome, to Night Vale...
where do you keep getting this 50 number from? You only need 4 sticks to make a plank. 2 saplings = 2 sticks, so you only need 16 saplings to make a workbench, and only need 10 saplings to make a hatchet that can, in turn, be used to mine sticks from trees. so you can gather wood faster. Alternately, the hand pick takes 14 saplings, and leaves an extra stick, so you can use the wooden hand pick to gather cobblestone and use the remaining stick to build a stone hatchet.
The portable grill is a matter of having options on the fly. Haven't you ever seen someone heat rocks in order to cook food? same concept. It uses cobblestone and torches which are easily carried by the player, but it's not as fuel efficient and requires the use of coal, whereas a furnace can burn just wood and leave the coal for other projects. Being able to kill a pig, and then turn the pork it drops from pork to grilled pork, or to go fishing for grilled fish instead of raw fish can make the difference between life and death.
I often ran low on planks, as I'd break them down for sticks in order to make torches while i was exploring deep into caves. Going through a cave without picking up wood is common, going through a cave without picking up cobblestone is very hard, so allowing the player to only need one stick and no extra planks for crafting a much needed hand pick for digging your way out of a cave system can make all the difference.
You want Rangecraft.

It says something about 'cannot find Stepcoal1.png'
And when i start minecraft, it goes to black screen and crashes with i try to log in..... it shows the mojang logo....
Please help i really want to get this mod to work it looks so awesome.
Then again, that's a much longer log than merely misplacing the image files usually gets, did you go through and just try to drag and drop the entire zip folder into minecraft.jar?
I'm all but positive you're not unpacking or copying something over properly though.

They are 100% Awesome.
Easy or Peaceful.
That's an extra component that makes the higher difficulties actually harder, instead of just going the lazy-man's way out and saying "lol moar helth 4 mobz and moar damg done 2 u!"
Or the
CreepersSlimes will attack youNo they shouldn't. I'd offer to go into detail, but it's been done before. Every recipe in here makes sense on 2x2 and either has no purpose or doesn't make sense on 3x3.
