I just discovered this thread recently and have not bothered to read through all 42 pages. I guess I'm pretty late to the party, but I want to make my thoughts on the ideas of this thread known anyway.
On the whole, I think it is a mixture of good and bad ideas, which is why I really can't "like" it on getsatisfaction. I was however planning to resubmit some of the individual component ideas to getsatisfaction if they have not already been submitted.

Dagger:
I like the dagger, especially its throwability.
Quote from GreyAcumen »
Sling:
Stone Bullets:
Slings are a great idea, though I think a single block of gravel should produce a bit more than one. Maybe four per block?
Quote from GreyAcumen »
Trowel:
The trowel functioning as both a spade and a hoe is an interesting one, and I like it.
Quote from GreyAcumen »
Hand Pick:
I dunno about this one; on the one hand, you might argue it's the most important one here, but on the other hand, it's not like making a crafting bench is hard; you need one log for it, right?
Perhaps if hand picks could mine only blocks that are one material down, ie a stone hand pick is required to mine anything other than plain stone. (So, stone hand pick is required for coal, iron hand pick for gold, and I just realized that this system wouldn't actually work because it'd require an iron hand pick for iron and a diamond hand pick for diamond). Still, something to make it not quite as good as the regular pick apart from speed or whatever.
Also, I don't like it doubling as a hoe. The trowel already does that. Why have two?
Quote from GreyAcumen »
Hatchet:
This one I don't like. Making it harder to get wood seems like a pointless change, and I don't see any need for a mini-tool for wood.
Quote from GreyAcumen »
Boomerang:
The boomerang is quite a nice idea; it's like a ranged sword! :tongue.gif: I'll note that I think it should perhaps require a 3x3 grid, though.
Quote from GreyAcumen »
Directional Markers:
I'm ambivalent on this one. On the one hand, they'd definitely be useful. On the other hand, I think I'd prefer something a bit more versatile. For example, a stick of chalk with which you right-click on a surface to place a symbol from a predefined set... a set that would include a lot more than just arrows.
Quote from GreyAcumen »
Powder Bomb:
Grenade:
I really think these would be better merged into a single item, by replacing the powder bombs in the grenade recipe with gunpowder.
Quote from GreyAcumen »
Small Shields:
Full Shields:
Shields, I like... though perhaps not so much the material-specific special features for wood.
Ambivalent on this one. It does sound useful, but it's not like flint is a heavily used resource.
Quote from GreyAcumen »
Sticks:
Ambivalent on this one too. We have plenty of wood — do we really need more? And yet it does give something to do with all the surplus saplings that there's not room to plant.
Quote from GreyAcumen »
Wood:
Eh, I can see the usefulness of this, but it'd be even more useful to just keep all your wood as wood until you need sticks. Though, if done in conjunction with the above recipe it makes a bit more sense.
Quote from GreyAcumen »
Leaf Graft:
This one I like, just because it makes accessible a previously inaccessible block. (And by "inaccessible", I mean "without cheating".)
Quote from GreyAcumen »
Topiary Blocks:
I don't much like this one. It seems like the exact same as above without much of a bonus (okay, sure, it doesn't decay, but couldn't you prevent the decay just as well by putting a log down?).
Quote from GreyAcumen »
Portable Grill:
...this one is possibly the best idea in the entire post.
Quote from GreyAcumen »
Ink Quill:
Interesting idea (readable books and such), but I think perhaps not the best implementation of it.
Quote from GreyAcumen »
Hypno Watch:
While interesting, I think this may be too complex.
Quote from GreyAcumen »
Bow Drill:
This is no easier to obtain than flint and steel; in fact, given the right circumstances, it's harder. The idea isn't bad, but I don't like the implementation.
Quote from GreyAcumen »
Paper:
Eh, I see this as pointless. Nonetheless, it's not like it's really changing anything since you still have a 1-1 ratio from sugar cane to paper no matter which recipe you choose.
Quote from GreyAcumen »
Glowstone Sand:
I don't particularly like this idea, to be honest.
Quote from GreyAcumen »
Ore Slabs:
Coal Slabs:[/anchor]
While I like the idea, the recipe should be a row of three to match other slab recipes.
Quote from GreyAcumen »
Colored Sand (and Stained Glass):
This is one of the better stained-glass proposals I have seen, and I am totally for it. One note though: it requires a 3x3 grid to dye wool, and I think allowing sand to be dyed on just a 2x2 grid is inconsistent. One or the other should be changed in my opinion. I don't honestly care which.

Satchel:
This one is saved for last because it deserves a more detailed response. I quite like the idea, but feel it might be really hard to implement.
[*:2dxr5nw0]Not stackable — obviously, because to stack them would be to lose the items in one of them.
[*:2dxr5nw0]Number of slots — I'm not sure why, but I'd prefer either three or nine slots. Perhaps it's just because that creates a sort of symmetry in the satchel window.
[*:2dxr5nw0]Method of access — I kind of prefer "holding in hand and right-clicking" to access the satchel's contents, but then the satchel is one of the items on the resulting inventory screen and you would be able to put the satchel in itself. Which sounds like a very bad thing. Your method is reasonable, though.
[*:2dxr5nw0]Disappearing — This is like leaf decay, I guess, and I think that the satchel should not disappear if it is placed on the ground. I don't take major issue with it, though.
[*:2dxr5nw0]Fragility — I guess this is acceptable. It would spend most of its time in inventory, after all.
[*:2dxr5nw0]Storage — I agree that satchels should not be able to be stored in other satchels, but I think they should be able to be stored in chests. There doesn't seem to be any compelling reason not to allow it, really.
[*:2dxr5nw0]Additional idea — It would be nice if food items could be stacked if placed in a satchel. Then if a stacked food item is in the satchel, trying to take the stack should result in taking just one off the stack.
the boomerang is more of a ranged HAND not sword as it does no damage but lets you pick up items
the arrows would be more useful then chalk assuming chalk would work the same in game as it does in real life (having to be on some sort of stone surface)
the powder bomb explodes on contact with fire or torches or lava anywhere else it leaves a lightable white powder useable as a fuse for whatever if you choose to use fire as a fuse, why remove something useful in the mod/idea if you just don't like it, also theres a mod page now you should check it out
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
i got a texture pack now, its here it changes how armor and tools look and has a few slight changes to a few blocks in terrain like making the redstone torch look more like a redstone torch then a lollipop.
the boomerang is more of a ranged HAND not sword as it does no damage but lets you pick up items
....right, I read that, but by the time I got to post it I had forgotten. But that just makes the boomerang even more useful, really.

the arrows would be more useful then chalk assuming chalk would work the same in game as it does in real life (having to be on some sort of stone surface)
I was thinking of chalk as working as a sort of "stamp", simply placing a symbol on the wall or ground. But I guess you're right, it would make a lot of sense not to allow that on diggable blocks (ie blocks you break with a shovel), so the two could be complementary. One thing I would change is being able to use flowers/bones directly for the pointer; it doesn't add anything to it, and it makes more sense for you to have to extract the dye first. It's not like that's hard either, just put the flower/bone on the crafting bench and lo! You have dye.

I'm merely stating my opinion on the topic. For making a powder trail, I'd prefer just using gunpowder directly, to be honest; it's simpler and not really any less sensible.
I would not mind the powder bomb being added. It just doesn't seem like a particularly good idea.

Yeah, I saw that; I took a brief look at the mod thread, but chose to post here since my response was more about the idea than the mod. I'll probably check the mod out at some point, maybe even try it out if I figure out how to mod Minecraft without losing my unmodded copy. I'm sure it's not hard, I just haven't looked into it yet.
Slings are a great idea, though I think a single block of gravel should produce a bit more than one. Maybe four per block?
The idea is to keep it preferable to make arrows as opposed to stone bullets. If 1 piece of gravel could do 4 HP of damage, then it would be a lot easier than needing to constantly remine a gravel block to get the flint(or get three gravel to craft the flint directly) and then add a stick and feather in order to get 4 arrows which do 8HP total.
Also, I don't like it doubling as a hoe. The trowel already does that. Why have two?
to be technically accurate, the HAND PICK already does that. It wasn't added to the trowel until later. If you build 2 trowels, then you'd be the exact same number of sticks and material as a hoe, but with a trowel having half the durability of a normal tool, and then taking double durability when used as a hoe, it is actually only 1/4th as effective as a hoe. A Hand Pick doesn't take double durability when used as a hoe, so it's 1/2 as effective as a full hoe, but 2 hand picks use 4 material more than a regular Hoe (however also keep in mind, the player might only need to use a hoe for 2 or 3 shots, at which point being able to put the rest of its uses towards mining could be far more useful than only being able to put the remaining uses towards shoveling)
This one I don't like. Making it harder to get wood seems like a pointless change, and I don't see any need for a mini-tool for wood.
It brings consistency to material hard enough to be used for making items, makes the Axe worth the 3 material it uses, and makes the saplings to sticks and sticks to wood feature far more important than just being a convenience.
The boomerang is quite a nice idea; it's like a ranged sword! :tongue.gif: I'll note that I think it should perhaps require a 3x3 grid, though.
you completely misunderstood how the boomerang works, but I see you realized your mistake later. With this in mind, I think it can be understood why it can be made on 2x2.

It's made of wood. It should darn well burn when exposed to fire/lava, arrows should stick in it. It only makes sense.
Although I can certainly see this being interesting, I don't think it's quite interesting enough for me to want it.
Actually, I find torch arrows to be one of the most interesting items in this game, especially when used in conjunction with Powderbombs.
Don't like this one.
That's okay. I don't really like the Glowstone Arrows much myself.
Ambivalent on this one. It does sound useful, but it's not like flint is a heavily used resource.
LOL. You either don't use the bow much, or you have a skeleton spawner set up in a drown trap for gathering your arrows.

A) Not only doesn't it decay, but it will also be treated as a log block for when other leaf blocks are determining if they will decay. It's an essential feature for building treehouses. And that's not even taking into account the concept of treating leaves as a liquid(non-flowing) so that players can move through leaf blocks, at which point topiary blocks would be CRITICAL to building nice looking treehouses.
...this one is possibly the best idea in the entire post.
You'd be surprised, it's actually one of the least supported out of the suggestions
Interesting idea (readable books and such), but I think perhaps not the best implementation of it.
oh, it's definitely the best implementation of it. It's simple, logical, and makes wooden bowls useful.
While interesting, I think this may be too complex.
the only complex part is altering the mob AI part, but I'm pretty sure that's being done as part of Farmcraft or something anyway.
This is no easier to obtain than flint and steel; in fact, given the right circumstances, it's harder. The idea isn't bad, but I don't like the implementation.
It's harder to get the initial investment, but once you do, you can grow your own fuel with INCREDIBLE ease. Plus it can be made from a bow on the spot, which you'd want to carry around with you anyway. Also, it doesn't use up a piece of iron every 65 uses, which could be put towards pickaxes, swords, armor, shields, buckets, compasses, and a number of other useful items.

I don't particularly like this idea, to be honest.
I don't know why. Glowstone sand is F-ing brilliant.
While I like the idea, the recipe should be a row of three to match other slab recipes.
Damnit, every single person who has an issue with this pulls out the same flawed reasoning; You can use three cobblestone to make slabs, because you can PLACE cobblestone already. Iron ingots can't be placed individually, and it takes NINE of them to make a full block. Putting 3 of them in a row should NOT make a slab that can be placed. If you want to do it that way, you should need 3 Ore BLOCKS to make the slab from and that's just freaking limiting. 4 is almost exactly half of the 9 needed for the full ore blocks, and it's also as much as needed to make a clay or snow block out of clay and snowballs (which are much closer to what ore should function like, since you're dealing with building something that can be placed out of something that can't be placed.

Pretty much exctly why it's handled that way, yes.
Disappearing — This is like leaf decay, I guess, and I think that the satchel should not disappear if it is placed on the ground. I don't take major issue with it, though.
Actually it's more like Mob decay. Where if you leave the area, they'll despawn, but will remain around as long as you're in the area.
Fragility — I guess this is acceptable. It would spend most of its time in inventory, after all.
Storage — I agree that satchels should not be able to be stored in other satchels, but I think they should be able to be stored in chests. There doesn't seem to be any compelling reason not to allow it, really.
As mentioned, it overpowers the use of satchels with little benefit to the chests. If you want 4 times the storage space of a chest, just build 4 chests. It also means that you can't build a whole bunch of satchels, and just keep them in a chest to use later when you want more immediately accessible inventory space.
Additional idea — It would be nice if food items could be stacked if placed in a satchel. Then if a stacked food item is in the satchel, trying to take the stack should result in taking just one off the stack.
No. Food will still remain unstackable. Being able to carry 256 meat in a single slot would be ridiciulously overpowered, even if you do have to put it down to access it..
Have you guys ever discussed double daggers or whatever they are called?

I honestly think this method of doing "double" anything is the most horribly limiting and least imaginative method that people keep coming up with. For a method of dual weilding, check out the offhand slot section of my Expanded Inventory suggestion
Think... If only axes or hatchets could be used to get a wood block, you'd have to spawn with one. Or else you wouldn't be able to get the wood for a crafting bench. Even if you don't use a crafting bench, you need the wood for the stick in each hand tool. Durrr

Is there any way to make it so i can still punch trees and get wood with this mod enabled? Because im getting annoyed about having to punch leaves to get wood. Apart from that this mod is AMAZING.

You have 2 options; Turn the difficulty setting to easy or peaceful, or start making it a point to keep a stone axe in your inventory once you're able to make one.

It also means that you can't build a whole bunch of satchels, and just keep them in a chest to use later when you want more immediately accessible inventory space.
No. Food will still remain unstackable. Being able to carry 256 meat in a single slot would be ridiciulously overpowered, even if you do have to put it down to access it..

I honestly think this method of doing "double" anything is the most horribly limiting and least imaginative method that people keep coming up with. For a method of dual weilding, check out the offhand slot section of my Expanded Inventory suggestion

Think... if people can make sticks and wood from saplings, then you wouldn't have to spawn with an axe or hatchet at all.

Easy.
Or Peaceful.
You have 2 options; Turn the difficulty setting to easy or peaceful, or start making it a point to keep a stone axe in your inventory once you're able to make one.
