Needs a nerf, Notch. I can pop out as many arrows in the time it takes me to right click. That's about 95 clicks per minute. Are you kidding me? I can kill 19 creepers lined up in a row in a minute.
This is ridiculous and overpowered. Make survival a challenge. Make the bows re-fire rate higher. I like the idea of using a bow, but as it currently is, it's one stop short of a semi-automatic machine gun.
I'm surprised more people aren't for this. They're for nerfing torches... but not this, when this is more in the right direction of what they're actually looking for. O.o
I haven't been bothered to use a bow for the whole sub machine gun aspect of it. I'm all for defensive over offensive anyway.
... Besides, bows inaccuracies also make trouble for it, the arrows are weak too.
This, and the fact that you can only hit creatures at a certain rate anyway. Otherwise arrows just bounce off (sometimes even landing in your own face!) It's better to time your shots to juggle your enemies.
Seriously! Try pulling out and autoclicker and shoot at a zombie you will notice that while he goes red from damage arrows bounce off him! Sure u have rapid fire but its useless when they just bounce off.

Yep.
But in any case, the fire rate should be decreased. It makes the game look bad when someone posts a video on youtube showing off how fast he or she can fire the bow (which is very fast indeed).
I'd be okay with the maximum fire rate being about 3 times what the maximum rate is that you ca hit an enemy, that would allow you to take on 3 enemies with the bow by constantly shifting which one you're aiming at.
right now, the firing rate is as fast as people can click.
As others have pointed out, this is much faster than the rate at which a single enemy can take damage.
What I'm saying is that you start with the amount of time between an enemy taking damage and being able to be damaged again. Now take 1/3rd of that time. THAT becomes the new maximum fire rate of the bow.
I may be missing the point of using a ranged weapon (be it bow, gun, what-have-you), but if I'm close enough to have the ammo bounce back and hit me (in this case, arrows), I wouldn't be using the ranged weapon to begin with. Kinda defeats the whole purpose of having a ranged weapon... within sword striking distance. o.O
Are you asking for a longer delay between shots, or a shorter delay? because technically you're suggesting a longer delay, at which point I'll make you a counteroffer of 1/2, which would allow you to fire fast enough to completely hold off 2 enemies (alternating shots between them) with a bow, dealing them damage as fast as they can take.
I agree, the bow needs a bit of rejiggering. It should take time to draw it back and fire. The arc should be straighter and the distance longer to compensate for this. Also, string should be allowed to be made from plants or wool, and the bow should degrade.

I think the distance is alright as is, you can shoot an arrow at about 60 70 blocks away from you right now as is, that's quite alot. Any more in range and you have yourself a crossbow mark's man rifle that acts like HALO Reach's DMR except with Bad Company 2 physics.
Well I'm pretty sure I can fire an arrow more than 60-70 meters in real life, just sayin. Maybe the bow in this is supposed to be a shorter type with lower draw weight though (as opposed to the 70 pounds that I use). But then again the Minecraft guy is a machine of destruction that can rip out huge corridors of rock in just seconds so surely he could handle a meatier bow.

Ahh, he may be able to handle a meaty bow, but are the materials he has sufficient to make that bow? Spider silk can be stronger than steel but you would need much more than just 3 strands of it tied together.

Please elaborate, your post makes little sense to me. You want it to be 3 times slower or faster?

I don't use the bow cause i don't like wasting ammo, sword is cooler. I even use it on creepers! XD

1/2 is okay then
