It would be awesome if there were secret levers.
There should be a secret torch lever and/or bookshelf door/lever
The torch lever would look a little different so if you look closely you can tell its a lever.
it would be crafted like this:
[] []
[] []
[] []
The book shelf could either be a hidden door or a lever. Maybe if you clicked a special book then it opened? dunno if thats a good idea. but it would be cool.
the book shelf door would be made like this:
[] [] []
[] [] []
= door
= redstone
the book shelf lever would be made like this:
[] [] []
[] [] []
These dont have to be how they are made cause if you have any ideas I'd be happy to hear them. Thoughts?Ideas?

I like this idea, but I don't think they should look any different at all. You should either know it's a switch/torch/bookcase or not. Don't give people who don't already know where something is the chance to find it.
This idea would go great with some better ways to hide doors and chests.
I dislike the idea of having switches completely hidden, would make it too hard for people to actually find them, so they would destroy the place to get in.

Not if they didn't know the was something to get into/through. If the door/chest is hidden and so is the switch, then they aren not just going to arbitrarily destroy a place. And if they do, whether the switch is hidden or not is irrelevant.
I'm putting my approval behind this, at the very LEAST I'm putting it behind the torch idea. That is damn well brilliant, since the two recipes for the torch and lever fit together perfectly that way. Bra-vo.
One thing to not is that a secret lever should always activate redstone that is on the OPPOSITE side of the block it is placed on, otherwise levers would always have to be placed right next to what they affected.
I'd love matching disguised doors ( door recipe with something other than wood / iron ) that would blend in with the surrounding blocks, and levers that go along with them.
Only issue I have is that i don't think the torch and lever should be crafted that way, or at least it should only be an alternative method to go along with TheDude's method.
I support, but recipes should be more obvious ( = lever, = button):
= lever disguised as bookshelf
= button disguised as bookshelf
= lever disguised as torch
= button disguised as torch
Secret doors ( = wooden door, = metal door):
= wooden door disguised as bookshelves. Can be opened by hand.
= iron door disguised as bookshelves. Can not be opened by hand.
Also:
= stone door that looks identical to stone wall when closed. Can't be opened by hand.
Well, I wouldn't make a button look like a torch, I think it sould just be levers. The metal door is also a good idea as you can't find it by right clicking the bookshelves.

i support this idea (if you can't tell, the one on the right is the lever.)

because I'd love to have the classic hidden spiral staircase behind it.

I think it will be a bit more intuitive, but TheDude's method is fine too.

This do this, and make a book stick out when its in use, or a lever be at a slightly lower angle.
Secret bookshelves are cooler.
