So a friend of mine recently expressed interest in creating a skyworld. The best option I was able to present to him at the time was to use MC edit and after many painstaking hours of editing he could create the world however it was he wanted it... but sadly he disapproves of that option, so the next thing I thought of was "Hey, what if there is a magical 'Skyworld' seed that could be used instead?"
And so brings me here, so if anyone has discovered a seed that makes the world floating above "nothingness" I'd love to see the seed for it, or whatever you've discovered that is the closest to it.
I would also totally accept a MCedit scematic of a skyworld if you've wasted away many hours editing a neat floating world.
I like both of those seeds personally, but they aren't quite what I was looking for.
TBH i'm not sure the minecraft land generation formula will allow for a true floating world like my buddy wants. He isn't talking a few floating islands, or a majority of floating islands, he wants the whole world to be nothing but floating islands...

I have a friend who made a world on his server that is what you're describing.
He had lots of worlds, and the mods, like myself, were in charge.
I was in charge of "Skylands", so I could probably ask him what the seed for it was.
One big thing that I'll tell you is that you need to make sure that you don't fall very far.
It may look bright down there, but maybe 2 seconds after you're below everything, you start taking damage.
This is, unfortunately, Impossible, sorry, Unless you use MC-Edit, World Edit, or some other world editor like that, there is no such thing, You can not make this out of a seed, Unless... You make a world in Indev, this will allow you to make floating islands.

You can get very close to the kind of world you want with some Custom Worlds Presets. Here's one I've used for a Skylands world (beware, it can be as treacherous as the Nether!):
Alternatively, here's a custom preset I've used that creates large floating islands; however, the islands are hovering above normal-ish terrain, and ore generation is very different:
