At easy you can survive 20 hits from a spider before you die, which makes it really easy to survive.
I just wait for the lava to spread in the dungeon so they stop spawning.
I guess its kinda cheating though.

I'm guessing you just started a random new world then checked the seed when you saw the awesome.

I played this on hardcore mode. I died instantly, not even more than a second.. O.o
