Hi all. Just tried a few different seeds while I was waiting on my friend to come over. She is from New Zealand, and had never seen minecraft before so I decided to show her the game and for fun I typed "New Zealand" as the seed. I'm so glad I did. Within about 2 mins of exploring I found a huge gravel pit connected to a cave which had the single largest iron deposit I have ever seen. I think I got about 36 iron in 5 mins. I Then decided to mine the gravel and got 2 stacks of arrow heads.
The cave is smallish with about 3 seperate rooms. Perfect for a starting base, complete with storehouses and a bedroom. Then I decided to deposit my items in a chest and dig straight down to save time. I dug down and found a ton more iron and some diamond and redstone all directly below that initial cave. So if you want a quick start rich in resources and natural beauty then give "New Zealand" a try. The coordinates for the cave I mention are x:243 y:65 z:-90
Let me know if you like it, and be sure to PM with more interesting finds if you decide to play this map.
Neat little lava fall, and a good reference to find your place at night.
Cave as seen from outside ground level
this is after mining 2 stacks of flint from the gravel that used to populate the area
Back wall of main room in the cave, you can see the ladder right? That is where it is safe to dig straight down to find diamond, redstone and lava. There is already a small depression in the floor where I started digging.
If I would have thought of doing this thread earlier then I would have taken a screenshot of the way the cave looked when I first found it. But... trust me it's the quickest I've ever gotten started in this game thanks to the ample iron and coal right at my fingertips.
bump with more screens of the surrounding area. I notice a pristine bay and a picturesque cliff face with waterfall.
Diamonds and more resources than I imagined possible with only 1 hour play so far. Found more caves above in the mountain my original cave was located in.
No it's part of the largest gravel pit I've ever seen. Note this iron rich cave is not directly at the spawn. I think it's south east. The coordinates are above and it is just a short run from the spawn.
The spawn however is very nice because it has a 6x10 room already carved out of the mountain complete with coal to get you thru you first night. I spawned, turned left and saw this cave. Good luck.
I don't understand why people seem to really want clay. Because it's rare? I don't like the red brick look myself, so maybe that's why I don't care about clay. Is there some other use that I am overlooking?

Red bricks are third only to obsidian and bedrock in TNT durability.
EDIT: wtf its down to 30 durability again. I thought it was 100

where did you find this info?
BTW anyone giving this seed a try?
Yes that does mean that most of you are older than me.
But It doesn't mean that my suggestions are not as good.
Probably from Minepedia.
Also going to test this seed out.
I'm asking you, as a friend... Just...put an end to me.
I'm building a monster spawner and grinder under the bay now :biggrin.gif:
