I'm a little late to the party, but I just played 1.13 for the first time and am revamping one of my old builds. I'd like to make an iron door that opens automatically if anyone is nearby. Before I would have used /testfor @a[r=3] with a comparator that powered the door, but now there is no /testfor. I've seen /execute used as a replacement, but I do not want to execute a command if someone is nearby, I just want a redstone output. Is there any 1.13 replacement for this?

/execute if entity @a[distance=..3]
That's it...
That runs a command, not produces a redstone output. I gather that there is no replacement and I'll have to place and destroy redstone blocks :/
/execute is a command, as well as /testfor. The one I posted do exactly the same as the one you gave.
If you don't want command, consider using pressure plate, or trip wire...
Oh, I see, I had a misunderstanding. Thank you!
