Yeaaaaah......for maybe about 3 seconds. You might as well just jump off the cliff Just make a TnT cannon if you want to do something like that......or make a juiced up Minecart rail and launch yourself like a projectile...
So you guys are simply looking for a device / veichle which can fly ?
Meh hang on for an hour
No, they are looking for a self-powered design that can go on without (or with minimal) interaction from the player. Can be controled (forward motion at least) and in vanilla minecraft.

I'm wondering since detector rails can be pushed and pulled by pistons meaning that you have a power source which in theory would just utilise a minecart to power it whether you could have a track system set up to make the minecart trigger the pistons as neseccary, the only thing I can't work out is how you'd also get the line of track to move with the machine.
That last bit is the part that doesn't work. You cannot move track like that.

I have discovered a truly remarkable proof of this, which this margin is too small to contain.

Just remember that Dispensers can't be pushed. Your only real option would be to drop TNT or to be the "weapon system" yourself
I have experimented with tnt. the best bet is to have a redstone block to place tnt off of like this:
redstone block=
pushable block=
piston=
sticky piston=
tnt=

I've been giving that some really deep thought ever since you first posted it and since the video went up. I have several copies of it on a map in a line for experimenting and at the moment I'm thinking it could be possible (though it would require mcedit to create) to use custom spawners with falling sand that converts to redstone blocks+a touch of remote redstone wizardry and have said redstone blocks appear and disappear (via fall dmg) in the same places where they're taken away and put back in the video, to make the pistons fire and cause movement.
It's already been confirmed falling sand that converts to a redstone block will power a repeater if it lands next to it, so if the dmg, fall or age value is right, it could fall just long enough to power the pistons, then vanish and repeat.
The problem i'm facing now is not 'how to make the falling sand conversion' but more a problem with how to keep the spawn location of the redstone blocks, consistent with the relocation of the craft.. ...
Which seems to be the very same roadblock everyone else is at...
How to make redstone blocks (or any block) appear/disappear, seemingly out of thin air.

Yes, but it does not require MCedit or Mods to use it only to make it whichis Vanilla.
If you want to be that strict, then you may as well cancel off every adventure map ever made, as well as .schematics and the mod/plugin api included in the last minecraft version (1.6), the other day..
I don't consider MCedit to be a HaxMod, I look at it more like a "Development Tool" because the resulting product doesn't require MCedit to be installed for it to be used/seen or experienced by anyone.

Can we make a clock with only pistons that can be pushed? I have a little bit of work. My clock is 2 layers high, using 4 sticky pistons and 4 redstone blocks. To change it's state cause a BUD in the bottom set. (Something to cause a BUD can be attached to the clock parts I have)
I made something sort of like a 5-clock. Put redstone blocks in front of all the pistons, and it will run on its own.

I think that that works but it seems useless without a way to push it. I'll work on it.
-edit-
So... due to a bug we need a movable repeater that doesn't require sticky pistons. The bug involves a problem where a sticky piston doesn't have time to recoil with the redstone block so the redstone block stays in place powering the pistons ahead of it. I have tested 1.5 as well but still doesn't work.
You can carry the pistons in your inventory lol

hmm but that piston can push rails and blocks at the same time T-T

The italic sticky piston/redstone block set is 1 layer below all the others. I'm not sure how to push this though.
