I was joking. I already have the save, of course. I had to find out why his trap works so much better than mine, which is 250*250*125 but "only" produces around 60k.
Wouldn't this also freeze the water currents for item transportation?
Badrat, I uploaded this the other day. If you still have any squid there you could try to make a loop gate. If it works the same way it did for me you should see a smaller number of squid and hopefully your mob number will rise.
Ok I have made some refinements and managed to get 128k out of this design, its just short of filling your inventory in 1 minute.
I actually decreased the amount of spawn floors as the mobs spawing on the top floors would take alot longer to fall and sometimes would hit a ledge on the way down meaning some drops were staying on the spawn shelfs. To compensate I made it longer and wider.
I don't think I can squeeze much more out of this design and its comming into diminished returns.
So the next thing to do is make it legit on my single player map although a much smaller version :tongue.gif:
And here is the save file:
I have a piston trap door to open a hole to the void, you definatly will want to use it when not collecting.
Hello, nice trap there. I tried replicating it and have done so. The only problem is that once in awhile I get mobs on top of the fence that live. When I go to kill them, they seem to be at full health as it takes many hits to kill them. I have the bottom spawn floor more than 24 blocks away, yet they still live. I know they don't spawn inside because I've seen some fall and live. Anyone know how to counter this?

yes I did come across this when testing for this trap, I just kept raising the height until it didn't happen 26 above seemed to do the trick.
I also noticed that if they fall in between the fence posts they would sometimes live so just have a 1 wide gap to fall trying to keep them in the middle.
anyway that you could put a .zip version up so that all the ppl on macs could get the map plz :smile.gif: !!!!!!!
The default archive utility in the mac isn't very useful. Try this, Unarchiver. It's open source and opens nearly any archive format.
I'm anxious to try this piston killer method out to see how it scales and how viable it is on SMP. To minimize the time people spend AFK at the mob trap. :smile.gif:

It works the exact same way in SMP if only one player is online. If there is more than one player online then mobs have a chance spawning around the other players instead of around you in the mob trap. The more players online, the worse mob traps are, unless they are all at the mob trap.

actually this would work, drop some water and let it form ice. Then drop some more water on top and place a torch just far enough away to stop the water on top freezing but not freeze the ice on the bottom. :biggrin.gif:
hmmm maybe I should double the video speed an claim 200k :tongue.gif:
Lol @ Sarcasm.
crap man do it on hard
