How many of these "epic contraptions" have utility within the survival aspect of the game? It seems like almost every one (that I've seen) has been made for either an aesthetic purpose (wave machine) or a goofing-off purpose (pinball machine). While fun to watch, these don't make much sense within the basic game. It's very goofy.
As it stands, a block that propels players like that should either stay out of vanilla or be a separate block from pistons altogether.
I should add that the jumping aspect never interested me, personally - I didn't even know about it when I first learned of pistons. I was far more fascinated with how they can be used in redstone, self-fabricated structures, lighting systems (turning house lights on and off when entering or leaving), and other useful mechanisms.
and what purpose do dyed wool, juke boxes, book cases, paintings, and music blocks serve as far as survival? for that matter what real survival purpose do pistons serve either way? Regardless they are a luxury item.
As for people only building these contraptions while "goofing off"...it's a game, isn't goofing off the point?
On top of that aren't self building structures and lighting systems all for goofing off and/or aesthetic purposes? What real value does turning the light in your house off when you leave have in a game where monsters are programed to spawn in dark places

Voted no. Pretty much for these reasons, even though I saw this post after I voted.

A more fun method of vertical transport, a trap at your door to launch mobs up and onto your cacti-cover/lava-filled roof.
And honestly, survival? The game mode may be called that, but you can just dig a box of dirt around you and 'survive'. Or even easier, just dig 3 blocks down and cover the top. Congrats, you just won Minecraft! You can now never play it again, because you have... SURVIVED!

Edit #2: Oh, and how are pistons 'over-powered'? I don't understand....
Jeb said that pistons won't launch entities. This removes much of their fun and purpose, and he has not stated a good reason for doing so. People have made many epic contraptions using the piston's launch ability. Everyone who wants to preserve this in some form, vote and post! When I get 100 signers I will send this to _jeb/Notch to show what the community thinks!
It's not like you have use them, and it's not like the creator will suddenly stop updating the mod.
It's also not as if you have to use the launching feature. The point is that the launching contraptions are what got the community excited for pistons in the first place, and a lot of people want to see that implemented.

Piston =/= pneumatic cannon.
They aren't going to be called pistons, they could be called 'Movers' now. :tongue.gif:

It'd be cool if the new pistons use different block IDs from the mod pistons, then you could use both!
Save The Slimes

I had a feeling long before he announced the change that the form of Pistons we got in the basic game would be a watered down near useless version.

I took a long walk. And now I'm back to thank you for this many sigs!
