Fixed, quoting from reddit is dodgy, I'd like to have something similar like that as well. However he's making a latch block, not something like that =( May as well suggest something over there while he has his chance.
A lot of the suggestions I see revolve around convinience, and making the possible easier. However, redstone is interesting specifically BECAUSE one has to figure things out. Redstone takes a simple concept (NOT gates) then uses it for a wide array of amazing things. Challenge is at the heart of fun. Therefore, new features should add new challenges (increase complexity) without making the current material pointless or easy (avoid reducing difficulty).
Anywho, here are my suggestions:
An alchemy block: Remember the transmuter? This directional block would enable cycling of meta data in order to change wool and such. When power is cut, the blocks return to their original form. This would allow for all kinds of impressive hi res screens and animated pixel art.
A mobile power source: This might be what Jeb's "latch block" is. If it were basically a torch block, this would mean flying machines, extending bridges, and a host of other really amazing stuff. All we have now is detector rails, which are... lacking.
Wireless transmitters and recievers: Limited to transmitting within a given space, recievers would match their dyed counter part, enabling complex logic as well as a wide variety of snazzy tricks for map makers. The best part? It would save a ton of resources (no need for a thousand lighting changes just send a signal). The current means of doing it (the thing with boats) is very unreliable, and will likely cease working in an update.
Changes to mechanics:
Make redstone placeable on walls and ceilings. This includes pressure plates and other components as well.
MUCH higher contrast lamps. Right now it's very hard to tell when they are lit, unless you have a good texture pack.
Pistons launching stuff like way back yonder. Needless to say, this would be awesome.
Glue! THINK OF THE POSSIBILITIES!
Stuff that wouldn't make much sense, but I hear suggested all the time:
The allocater block. Presumably, this would be an iron chest powered by redstone. As cool as this seems, consider that mass industry is already frowned upon by much of the community (there's even a server plugin circulating that prevents farming), and is even called cheating. An allocater block would take the final step and make farms truly automatic, while constantly reducing server performance.
Insulated wire/bluestone. There are already ways to seperate wires; this would only serve to make redstone more convenient and thus wouldn't really be worth it.
BUD blocks. We have BUDs as it stands, and their quirky nature makes them all the more fun.

For the redstone up walls, we could mix slimeballs and redstone like so:
XXX
XOX
XXX
Where X is redstone and O is a slimeball. That would give 8 sticky redstone.
If you right click a block with a slimeball, it will make that side sticky. To clean it, just right click with paper.
We also need a world loader. Maybe a block that when placed keeps the chunk loaded?

I think it would be better to just allow redstone on walls. Adding a new redstone tile could get a bit complicated (and buggy) which is part of the reason bluestone will likely never happen.
As for the glue, making individual surfaces sticky would be difficult. I think the data could be best handled by saying a block is "sticky" or "not sticky", similar to how blocks can be "powered" and "unpowered". This would probably require some fancy scripting, but hey - imagine how versatile flying machines could be. Make some silly shape, right click everything with a slimeball, then set up an inchworm engine in the middle.
Just drag and drop the entire redpower mod logic components into the vanilla game. Kthx
edit: Would also like to see insulated wiring and cables à la Redpower 2 as well.
editedit: just hire the tekkit people. ALL of them.
As much as I love tekkit pack... it's, well, a pack. Tekkit doesn't make the mods, they just set up legally questionable dynamic downloads (much to the chagrin of many mod makers).
Id like to be able to add a watch attached to the redstone and be able to know the time of the day without light sensors, dispenser timers or similar.
It would be cool also to make some kind of hard wire than can go through air, something like the string goes on the tripwire and be able to place redstone on walls...
Currently piston bud D latches are 1 x 5 x 3 and have a 1 tick write speed. Pistonless designs can be 2x2x6 tileable.
With jeb's new D latch, would the write signal sent in the side pass through to the other side without delay?
This D Latch would allow display screens to be simpler / faster.
A RAM cell made with this new gate would be much simpler and smaller. It would just need an AND gate on the output.
A selectable inverter / repeater would also be useful. This would be similar to an existing repeater, except when power is applied to the side, the output is inverted. (This is also know as an XOR gate, but don't tell Jeb or he won't put it in. ) All of the gates could be made using 1 high designs.
I would love to see colored insulated wire. This would use a wool cover that would set the color. Since it could only connect at the end points it should be possible to send a signal further (for example: 63 blocks) without needing a repeater. This should also reduce CPU load during redstone updates.
(I know this exists in RedPower, but why bother building a computer type device with that mod installed? Might as well just use the built in computer block and write programs in FORTH. )
Jeb is looking for designs for a sort of locked trapdoor mechanism that is a redstone repeater on drugs, while being effective as a door, along with some complicated redstone bull that a lot of people (Including me) don't understand.
Don't ask me for designs.

To all of you people who think Notch is still working on the game, he stopped working on Minecraft in late 2011. Get your facts straight and stop spamming his twitter about Minecraft updates.
Yoyo
I'm contemplating adding a latch block of some kind to Minecraft, but I'm not sure of which kind of latch or flipflop I should use. Here's a list of several designs for different functionality: http://www.minecraft..._.26_Flip-Flops[1]
What I was thinking of adding was a simple memory cell block. It would have one input (S) and one output (O) similar to the repeater block, but where O only would be set to S if the controller signal © is on. In other words, when C=1 then O=S, but when C=0 then O keeps its old value regardless of S.
The placement would be similar to the repeater, with S leading in and O leading out, but also with C coming from either left or right side.

THat would be EPIC, free floating machinees here we come!!>!!
Why not give us the choice to lag?
And I guess Bluestone would be epic.
Playing MInecraft since February 22, 2011
1. Shorter signal strength (5-10)
2. Unrecoverable
I would like it to be crafted like this, with + being redstone dust and G being glass.
GGG
G+G
GGG
It would look like redstone wire suspended in a glass block.
Any suggestions on Improvements?
Normal State: OFF
Powered State: ON
Statechange Delay: 1 Tick
Basically, inverted redstone torches.
Um... that's a repeater set to 1 tick...
If my post has helped you out, feel free to hit the +1 rep button!
Umm... we already kinda have that. It's called a repeater.

Anywho, here are my suggestions:
instant repeaters
movable power source (or fix the powered rail glitch)
and probably my favorite of all - The allocator
any one of them would be sweet... latches are unnecessary since they are easy to make... adding a block takes all the fun out of it =P

Flying nyan-cat pixel art? Why not!
