If you want them to be directly adjacent to each other you may have issues as when one updates it will extend/retract updating the others. I have a simple design for 1 block between each if you'd like it.

Thanks but I already have a design for that =] I want my smart furnaces to be next to eachother but I'll just leave them 1 apart. (Yes I know you're probably thinking "Oh another Smart Furnace" but I think mine makes more sense than most peoples)

Sorry that I couldn't have been more help! Good luck.
What's up with pistons and "smart furnaces" these days. Is it because Etho made one?
I mean, if a furnace is cooking, the furnace itself already has a different texture, which is a clear indicator something is cooking.
Those are the, in my opinion, poor smart furnaces, because of what you mentioned. However, it can be extremely useful to know which furnaces have finished cooking and no longer have the distinguishing texture, but still contain smelted products.
My furnace room lets you knowanywhere in the house if something is smelting, and dings when one finishes and double dings when everything is done... I'm considering adding a timer to tell you how long everythings been smelting just for the hell of it
I would think this is possible, you can have one that has the piston underneath the furnace with another with one right behind it. I haven't thought of a good way to set these up, but I would imagine that it could work out.

Qweesdy - Did you get your nice shiny black piece of coal while shovelling gravel?

Mine does the same thing, and it occupies 1/4 the space...
i have a smart furnaces that you can place next to eachother. it's also really compact. I can take pictures if you need them (if you have not found a way to do it yet).
Yeah, I have one that is 3*3*1 for each module, but I'd like to see yours as well.
yea there are a couple that are beyond my range of knowledge about t-buds. the pictures on the link u sent me were not tilable (had to be one apart) but there are some in there that are... and I don't get how they work
The second design is the one that is tileable and one apart.

"This is my burny-wurny detector. It goes "click" when there's stuff."

Good for you =]
