I don't have any specific ideas, but in general I think redstone could use more features that make it useful for playing survival--ways of receiving information about, and interacting with, the world.
I'm not saying you should have to know redstone to play the Minecraft, but it should be more beneficial than a mere curiosity.
Gravity pistons
As well as vertical redstone and the ability for redstone torches to send power down as well as up.
Oh also, red and blue redstone wiring. They can run along side regular redstone without connecting to it. If you want it to connect you'll either need the red stone and differently colored restone run into each other or run into a device similar to a repearter or wait actually lol yeah you can have them connect to each other by using a repeater.
Lol i keep thinking of more things, idk this idea might be dumb but I think redstone should be able to send its power through water.

Agreed. It made me sad to see redstone added as a consumable potion ingredient, instead of encouraging people to build with it.
I'd personally like to see an indestructable block that can be moved by pistons. Not in survival, but as a feature for mapmakers. I think that they ought to add a load of similar content like that- things regular survival players will never need/use/be able to find, but that mapmakers can use to great effect.

If at first you don't succeed, keep dying in fires until you do.
— Vertical redstone.
— Right click to change wire's connection state. (Would require significant refactoring, unfortunately.)
— A redstone wand that powers blocks for a few ticks on a right-click.
— Light sensor, as described by Regular Hexahedron.
— BUD block. Fix other BUDs.
i honestly don't have the foggiest idea, what i'd really like is redstone bugfixes.
but a list of things that wouldn't be too bad:
1.Regular Hexahedrons light sensor(you know, i don't think that would be too hard for me to code into a mod...).
2.perhaps some more sensors to store data, would really help with computers.
3.variable light emitter, e.g: have a block, similar to a redstone lamp, that can be set to any amount of light level, 0-15.
4.vertical redstone.
5.a rather stupid idea, like the computer mod, a command-line based computer OS so that in a massive redstone computer you can have rows of terminals for user byte allocation or backup memory, you give the terminal a digit, and it outputs it as a redstone current that goes as far as the digit counts (excluding anything over 15m3).
6. the computer block as i mentioned before, except this one counts the number of redstone pulses, and outputs same way as idea 5. does. To reset it waits a total of about 6 ticks before resetting?
7.insulated redstone, or at least a way to sort them.
I've thought up a use for hexahedron's light sensor:
computer byte storage, have a room with walls of the variable light emitter, and light sensors in the middle, so say a user runs a program on this hypothetical computer, the program flashes pulses to idea No. 6, and that goes into the variable light emitter, but not all currents reach it, so you get variable light, the light sensor measures this and uses up memory with this info...
i just realised i could cut it short at "the program flashes pulses to idea No.6" and then have No. 6 output it as memory.
anyway, all very complex.

Free + Crabs + Ability to trample/suffocate opponents in Cortex Command = Free Bombs.
I think we need some form of redstone block, similar to iron, gold, lapis lazuli and diamond blocks which could be used for storage convenience and possibly added functionality to redstone, such as a multi-directional or instant repeater of some sort. This would have also been an ideal recipe for redstone-activated lamps, but that's already been added with a different crafting recipe.
I don't know if it's already been said, but I would love an instant repeater, or just the first repeater setting to be instant. Just that alone would be enough for me (although I do like the idea of vertical redstone). It's not like an instant repeater makes building easier, it'll just make big projects go so much faster :S
1) a condensed, piston-movable storage block of redstone. Same texture as lapis, only red. With one special ability; it's conductive along all cardinal faces. You want vertical RS? You've got it, though it'll cost you 9 times what it would otherwise. Bonus points (and somewhat true to life w.r.t. real circuit elements) would be a greater conductivity without needing repeaters.
2) a sticky piston that conducts its state forward through its piston head.
Now that, that is a good idea. I very much like the input style that you said for it where it outputs a different strength pulse based on the light level, sadly it wouldn't work as a day/night sensor due to rain; actually it could work if you were in a desert, do deserts get cloudy during storms? Anyway, with the strength output it encourages a lot more ingenuity especially if you only want one to be on, and like you said it would allow for communication and data storage based on light. I would say "you should pm Jeb" but I'm not sure how that normally goes.
yeah if you use the light sensor strength output, you could hook them up to torches to see how dark it is

If you need any help with any computer issues, check my website for contact information. I also do Minecraft Mods... well basic ones, I can make blocks that do specific things. I've also dabbed into making Plugins... like before, simple plugins
i would like some kind of way to isolate redstone wire so it would not connect sideways. like for example right clicking with a slime ball to make it isolated. also i would love some way of vertical redstone signals without using the redstone torch trick. and i want to mention that it would kind of ruin the aspect of creativity if you added things such as a BUD block. i really don't think you should put that kind of mechanismes into single blocks. because i think that that's some of the fun with redstone in minecraft. that you have to think to make something epic.

That's a very good idea. I once had a similar idea for "bedrock pistons", that function exactly like regular pistons and sticky pistons, except they're indestructible and can only be moved by other bedrock pistons. Again, not for survival mode but for map creators to use in designing unbreakable levels.
If the game had your unbreakable but movable block, and bedrock pistons, that could add a lot to the game.
1) When chests are powered they are open and any item falling on them would go inside
That is a pretty damn cool idea. Not that the allocator wouldn't be nice too. But adding more functionality to chests would be neat.
Or perhaps it could be added as the long suggested "iron chest", that can only be opened with redstone, but when opened also accepts loose items. I always thought the "chest only redstone opens" is silly, since you can already lock chests with pistons. But if it had the added benefit of taking in items too that could make it quite useful.
1. Redstone wires and repeaters should take up a half block so that they could be easily hidden under slabs.
2. Redstone wires should come in different colors. These colors signals wouldn't interfere with each other but could be split and combined. They could even possibly be allowed to overlap.
redstone cant be made a half block it makes too much lag thats why theres no mod that does that
Since there have been blocks created for most other ores, I think a redstone block should be in order that acts as a single- block TFF. It begins on off state, then turns on when current is applied; then turns off after a second pulse. Could be used to make read-write memory inside a piston tape.
I'm not saying you should have to know redstone to play the Minecraft, but it should be more beneficial than a mere curiosity.
