I made a working secret door using this tutorial. It works perfectly but I want to make it so that instead of putting a switch on the wall to open it, I want to just have to place a redstone torch on the wall to open it. The problem is that I cannot figure out how to make the redstone torch activate the door. Any suggestions?

To make a snazzy door opener you could incorporate the following 3 elements into your existing system.
1. A piston actuated power source (powered by your wall torch).
Close up of piston which lies directly below your door (unpowered piston and unpowered line to the RS latch).
Torch placed directly on lower block of door, powering the piston and thus the set line to the RS latch
With the door now open (and held open by the memory of the latch), the torch pops off and is floating conveniently for pickup.
2. An RS latch (set by the piston and reset by a pressure plate on the other side).
Any RS latch will do- this is a variant of the H style latch from the wiki, awaiting a power set from your wall torch.
Backside of the unset RS latch- showing an inverter torch that will provide power to the door once the latch is set. The T of redstone dust in the lower left is where the lever sits in CNB's video. The powered line of redstone is from the pressure plate reset.
3. A pressure plate that resets the latch and also provides direct power for exiting your hidden entrance.
Back side showing pressure plate system. The middle line provides direct power to the door (for exiting) and the line on the right resets the latch (allowing the door to close once you pass through the entrance). The two additonal repeaters are used as diodes to prevent power backflow (the middle one can be adjusted to give you time to get through the door on exiting).
The entire system is shown spread out for clarity. I usually run the RS latch under the door itself for compaction.
