The title of the thread is Redstone Logic Gates and FAQs. If you don't want people to ask questions then don't put it in the title.
I find it rather frustrating that you all don't want questions "cluttering" up your thread. When I started to ask for help on my clock, I looked for the thread that seemed to have the most knowledge people around to answer. If you all moderate a thread away from asking questions, then I fear the vast majority of the most knowledgeable people will seclude themselves in that thread, thus hiding away a rather valuable resource.
Certainly you could say to a great number of the questions to just "Google it" or "read before you ask," but what if they actually have an intelligent question? Example:
From everything I have read about T Flip-Flop's within Minecraft is that they function as rising edge triggers. But as I looked further into the Compendium I saw a schematic of a Rising Edge trigger that wasn't attached to a T Flip-Flop. So, then, what exactly IS a T Flip-Flop if it is not a rising edge trigger? I tried looking over some Wikipedia pages on it but most of it is filled with so much jargon I can hardly get past the words. Plus, I have a feeling that some of the characteristics of a T Flip-Flop in the real world don't make it into Redstone circuitry. So, I ask again, if a T Flip-Flop's sole purpose isn't to act as a rising edge trigger, then what else is it for?
EDIT: Not to mention this sentence in the first post:
So here goes! Post your Redstone circuits if you've got them! Feel free to ask questions and have them answered by our resident redstone experts!
The title of the thread is Redstone Logic Gates and FAQs. If you don't want people to ask questions then don't put it in the title.
You seem to have a misunderstanding of the difference between Frequently Asked Questions (emphasis on "Frequently") and other questions.
A FAQ is for only those questions that are general enough to be answered impersonally through a guide, or something similar. Any other questions would be those that need some level of direct Q&A with those who better understand redstone.
It would be preferable to have a thread for questions that can't be answered by the FAQ resources (at the bottom of the OP) in order to both pare down the amount of questions being asked as well as removing the clutter forming in this thread (its main purpose is to post circuit designs).
well i just sent a PM to citricsquid with this in the message:
Hi,
Everyone over at the Redstone Logic Gates and FAQs Compendium, thread have been talking about starting a new thread for Redstone, and I decided that i am going to be the OP of it, but that over the last 3-4 weeks we have been thinking that since redstone is becoming a big topic in the game of minecraft, that it would be nice to have a Redstone sub-forum.
We think it would be useful, for the reason that any questions that might be asked about redstone would easy for any and all redstone experts to find and answer, cause the state of the current thread which is basically the only redstone community as stated by this post:

Is there a website or internet community site where people who share the common interest of developing complex redstone circuits and devices share their schematics in an archive-like format? Mainly, I'm looking for a community of redstone computer science fans, so I can learn the more complex art of redstone computer science-ing. I'm way past the basics, but I haven't found a new platform of learning to move to, and feel left wanting.
Any help?
Am I posting in the right thread?
This is afaik the only redstone subcommunity. Currently we're in the phase of waiting for a redstone simulator which supports repeaters. We share our creations through .gif's and .schematics. We're not with a lot, but it'll have to do.
Then this is what started the whole discussion of a new thread / sub-forum:

But it would be cool, if there could be a more structured redstone community, instead of just a single thread. A subforum would be welcome.
Also, it is a pain when you have a thread the is about a topic that takes a day or two to come up with a answer and that everything gets mixed up as said in this post:

To be honest I think we shouldn't even mix developments and questions. There should be a thread with a compendium of circuits and stuff and not for questions. Questions can either be asked in a new thread or at least in a separate thread. The way it is right now just makes it impossible to follow, especially for the mods to collect the important circuits. I've seen some pretty damn good things on here and they just get lost in 60 pages of talking about everything.
And i don't want to start a thread that would be like what was said in this post:

And last a reply to that post:

Don't take it personally, i don't think that's what's being said.
I think the meaning is: in retrospection, it would have been better to have separate threads - designs, schematics and what not and Q&A. Right now it's just a big mess, with discussions crossing over each other.
After reading all this, i hope you at least put some thought into this, on that i am not saying that this needs to happen or the world is going to blow-up or something stupid like that, but that i am asking you cause it would be very much appreciated if something along the lines of this would happen.
Thanks for even reading this suggestion even if it dose not get added in.
@icks: Thanks for the reply...I'm going to need to reread that post a few times to digest it all. I understood what a rising edge trigger is already, but I'm sure someone will find that information helpful.
its a 1 wide simple clock thats infinately extendible.
[edit] just realised someone on the previous page posted this, but ohwell, its a handy clock :biggrin.gif:
Also, heres a suggestion to anyone who is keen:
i was wondering if it would be possible for somone to make a program that converts binary (from a text file) to a redstone circut (i.e torch or no torch)if it is possible) because then i would be able program my computer (which is currently in development (ITS GOING TO SUPPORT ASSEMBLY (well a "custom" version of it, specially designed to accomidate a smaller design)
I have a simple request for a redstone circuit. Please, let me know if you don't want it here and I'll move it to a separate thread.
I have 3 inputs: value1, value2 and switch. I have 1 output.
When switch=0, I want output:=value1
When switch=1, I want output:=value2
As simple as that. I am sure there should be a rather small and simple circuit to do this (not a combination of logical gates), but I'm not good at designing components. If anyone can help out or point me to existing solution, I will greatly appreciate
-> 2 NOTs wich connected to the output of each other.

| - - []
I think I'm missing something here. If I connect each NOT's output to other NOT's input, that basically gives me RS NOR latch (a memory cell). So, where my 3 inputs and 1 output would be?

I have something like this that's 6x3x3(I think), but i could probably make it smaller if you want. I'll upload the save in a minute...
Yes, please upload. I have screwed around and managed to combine several gates into something 5x3x3. Maybe we have the same thing:). But I'd like to have a possibly different version too.
BTW the PM requesting a Redstone Sub forum sent to citricsquid won't be answered yet.
He's not back until Wednesday is he?
Anyway, I want some help with something I'm trying to do.
I'm attempting to open an iron door with redstone and a button. I am trying to get the door open almost instantaneously, but have a delayed close.
I've tried repeaters, but that delays both the open and close unfortunately. Is there a workaround?
Yes he will not be back till Wednesday but in his signature it says that if it is urgent to PM WebTM... but this is not urgent by any means... and that i can wait... and so i will not start the new thread till i know if or if not there will be a sub-forum.
I have made a T-flipflop that doesn't require an edge trigger because i made some repeaters delay. I can't post up any pictures at the moment because my internet is capped.
I managed to make a 1*6*7 XOR gate. It was for fun then I tried to make it faster and smaller. It seems like it takes about 1 second to respond. 1-wide things aren't exactly worth it, unless they are simple enough like the RS NOR latch.
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
I have a new signature as that one was a year (or more?) outdated!
Ok after working with counters and 7-segments along with still working on the 47-segment decoder... it has 0.750Kb of base-4 decoding logic in it... i am starting to work with adders... but what do i do with the last Cout output?
cause there is not any more adders after that and i don't think i can just forget about it cause it has a value to it right?
I'm seriously going to freak out. All my attempts for a vertical two-directional repeater that also allows for long signals to be transmitted correctly fail. This is really tough ..

I don't know how you could get a vertical one to work, though I guess it would depend on the dimensions.
On a related note, I figured out how to make one that's 1-wide, though it could be more compact (I'm no wiz when it comes to that :tongue.gif:).

That is funny...
Ok so, up untill we get a sub-forum...(if ever)... what type of thread am i makeing... a , or somthing else?
cause i would like to start to type up a OP in notepad... only because we all ready have a lot of great circuits, and stuff.
