Have you looked into slime blocks and honey blocks?
The easiest way would be to make the middle block a slime block or honey block, when they are pushed or pulled they try to move all the blocks they are touching.
So with the middle block a slime block or honey block pushed and pulled by a piston it should move the 4 blocks that touch it and so those 4 pistons aren't needed.
You could make it work with just one piston if you put a row of slime/honey blocks in the middle.
If you want the slime/honey blocks under the floor so they aren't as visible, the honey blocks aren't supposed to stick to the slime blocks so you can use 6 of one and 3 of the other with other blocks on top, with just 2 pistons, as long as you make sure you move the honey blocks a fraction of a second before the slime blocks.
the Wiki doesn't make it clear, but slime blocks don't stick to honey blocks either, so an elevator platform can now be made any size by alternating groups of slime blocks with honey blocks, up to 12 of each or 6 with other blocks on top, with one piston per group and no fancy timing needed.
(at least in Java 1.15.2)
(I suppose there may be a limit to how big it can get and still have all the pistons synchronized.)
If you use 3 slime blocks in a stripe in the middle of the elevator you could get away with just having stripes of obsidian on opposite walls and/or single obsidian blocks in the floors.
Hello Redstone Pro's,
I want to build a 3x3 Piston elevator, but i dont know how i can build it...
I tried my best but now my knowledge has reached its end.
I have done many things with redstone, but this is way to complicated, i dont get it, how i can move the middle block,
would be nice if someone can help
Kind regards

Just testing.
Wait, you give me and idea,
i never thought of putting the slimeblock in the middle, i just put them under the blocks, so the piston didnt work, like i wanted it to work.
This could actually work.
Thx Buddy, i'll test it.

Okay, this should work, thx.
I never used honey blocks, i am a player who like to play the "old" Versions ,
so i usually play in 1.7.10-1.12 so i dont know the characteristics of Honey.
So Thx for the Explanation .
I try it out later
Ps: The only negative thing is, you cant put normal blocks at the side, it has to be obsidian, furnace or other things, that cant be moved.
If you use 3 slime blocks in a stripe in the middle of the elevator you could get away with just having stripes of obsidian on opposite walls and/or single obsidian blocks in the floors.
Just testing.
