Once again, we already have a boreal forest in Minecraft. It's called the Taiga. They're the exact same habitats.
Speaking of the Taiga, does anybody else think a nice change would be some Taigas having snow and some not depending on where they are in this new temperature system?
...And if you actually like those borders and can even build some cool stuff in it, then that is great for you. The less annoyances, the better. But I just really don't like them, especially because they look so unnatural.
Exact, and because of this I'll have a really hard time to migrate every single building in my current world to a new one. But it will be worth it ... I hope.
Once they update something to a newer version, Mojang will probably not downgrade.
I remember that 1.7/1.7.3 was notoriously good at creating these... (in my experience)
sorry, its just maybe, since its a Biome Update, i think that they could put the Beta 1.8 terrain gen into JUST the mountain biomes. the only seed i have found with floating islands (I think) only works for 1.5 now D= That dirty little troll
well, i hope we get mod API. or (this won't happen) SEIZURE BIOMES! they have all colors of wool as grass and stained hardend clay as stone!!! lolz
To cut down on the redundant threads regarding upcoming update additions, the MD section staff have decided to make a single thread for not only the upcoming update, but all updates yet to come. This thread will be updated daily (if there is anything new to add) by staff members to keep it constantly up to date. In addition, when a new update comes out, this thread will continue to be used for whatever the new upcoming update is.
Official patch notes:
None at this time.
Official "spoilers":
• The controls screen has a new design.
• Sprinting will now be activated by a bind-able hotkey rather than double tapping the "forward" key. It is unknown at this time if this will be a toggle or if it will only be active when held. It is also unknown if you will be able to use the old sprinting method instead.
• Ability to bind functions, such as screenshots, cinematic camera, and perspective, to custom hotkeys.
• A desert mountain biome, which Jeb calls "Disco mountains", will be added. They will be made of stained clay of various colors and will contain dead bushes.
• Biomes will now only border certain other types of biomes.
• There is a new fishing mechanic, but nothing is known about it yet.
• Scoreboard improvements, including a log of the amount of times you have mined certain blocks, killed certain mobs, and your death total.
• A new biome will be added, though not much is known about it. It will include a new type of dirt block, mossy cobblestone, and large spruce trees.
• A new type of dirt block, currently called podzol, though it may be renamed, will be added. Not much is currently known about it.
• Spruce trees will generate in extreme hills biomes.
• Bug fix: Less "black spots" caused by shadows upon world generation.
Speculation:
• 1.7 could include an ocean update.
• Bug fix: Naturally generated torches sometimes only appear to light up a 1x1 area. Jeb is currently working on this but has not finished as far as we know.
If you notice anything that should be on this list but isn't, please send me a private message explaining what should be added, as well as a link to the source of the information.
Where ever they stick the sprinting key I'm just going to change it to the space bar anyway, so much easier than something that requires pinky gymnastics to use.
I didn't even think about the possibility of sprinting in a direction other than forward. I may indeed have to rethink this, but I'll wait and see if you can sprint in other directions first.
ahh, crap lol. I forgot about that. Hm...the ctr key is a key I can reach comfortable while playing...hmm...this is hard lol. I will have to think about this. But i'm leaning more towards assigning the zoom key to something else.
Nice catch haha
I will use Apple/Command, becouse your thum can rech it

The problem with the truth, is that it never lies.
This isn't a fantasy biome, the podzol has low nutrients, and not much grows there except the trees, thats all I can recall.
I didn't say it was. I asked beforehand, "is it supposed to be a make-belief biome?" Then I said that realistic biomes should be added before another fantasy biome. I didn't state that the biome was a fantasy one, just that more realistic biomes should be added before fantasy ones.
And yes podzol is a real thing, I know, but it just looks so odd and overall the biome does look out-of-this-world...and ugly. I guess what I really want is biomes such as the Alpine, Savannah or Chaparral to be added instead. Why? Well, they're actual biomes, while these two new biomes aren't technically biomes (although that doesn't stop me from being optimistic about the badlands biome).
Saying that though, Jeb probably will have another biome planned and it could very well be a Savannah, Alpine, etc...
By the way, I like to use the following website to find out about what actual biomes there are on Earth. KDE Santa Barbara

Actually, the 'Disco Mountains' are Red Rock Mountains. A real biome. And the tree one with podzol is a Boreal Forest. A real biome.

These snow-capped mountains STILL only go as high as the clouds.
I wish we had mountains that went ABOVE the clouds. Like the extreme hills biome hills should go to layer 200 at least.

Mountains like that would look great but then the practical side of me chimes in, "why?"
While like the idea of mountains that are that high, without anything high elevation content, what is the point? Now don't get me wrong, building a massive structure on the top of a 200 block high mountain would look nice, but without any ore, resource, etc... Mountains would be nothing more than an geographic barrier. Maybe that is the point, I don't know. My thought is that if you're going to make the elevation go that high, you might as well put something up at those elevations worth looking for, otherwise it's kind of a wasted opportunity.
Just a guess....

That's exactly where'd I'd put mine, makes a lot of ergonomic sense.

why should sprint by default be q, when that is drop by default too?
But thats Jump

I guess I didn't see that one. Thank you, I added it to spoilers and added you to the special thanks section.

It's an awesome HD Pack called Real Life. But the villagers in it look weird.
Notice the snow biome in the picture. Sorry to pop your bubble.

The new forest biome is an excellent depiction of the coastal forests of Northern California, Oregon, and Washington. Check picture 2 from this link: http://www.celebratebig.com/pacific-northwest/oregon-washington-2000/ And yes, there's moss growing on the stones.
Geographicraft (formerly Climate Control) - Control climate, ocean, and land sizes; stop chunk walls; put modded biomes into Default worlds, and more!
RTG plus - All the beautiful terrain of RTG, plus varied and beautiful trees and forests.

That's just me, still they would be nice looking.
