Is there any way that I could find a specific biome? I've been looking forever for a Mesa Biome, wondering if there was like a generator, or something that I could implement into my LP world... because I want the clay aha!
This video is literally me trying to find a mesa... such a waste of time! Anyone know any way I could do that, that would be awesome, thanks.
You can use AMIDST to generate a map of your world (works in 1.7.2); with the way biomes are positioned, you may have to travel quite far to find the one that you want; "cold" biomes and "hot" biomes tend to cluster together across large distances (this can be seen here, with a comparison to the old generation).
I was going to give the seed for a nice world I'm playing, that has a mesa close to a village and a desert temple - and though - Oh, that should be on the seed topic - and there are a number of seeds posts already that have a mesa biome nearby. I suspect that the enhanced biomes will make sharing seeds even more popular.
I'm planning to just play the area I start in and collect the regular resources I do so that instead of tracking down biomes, they'll be more of a surprise seeing them for the first time just running into them.
I know no one has mentioned it, but try amidst seriously though. I don't know if it is the seed I generated for my 1.7.2 world or mesa biomes in general but on my map there aren't very many mesas about, they seem more rare. desert temples on the other hand are EVERYWHERE. good luck finding your mesa.
You won't just "run in to" rare biomes unless you spawn near them. On certain maps you might have to travel up to 10k blocks away from spawn to find one. For some reason, the temperature system has made it so that you can travel for hours on end and only encounter biomes with a "temperate" climate. In my experience this has meant that deserts and ice plains are rare and biomes like mesas and jungles are practically non-existent. Recently I spent about ten hours exploring and traveled up to 30k away from my spawn at times. I only encountered one mesa and one jungle the entire time.

Ok, so first they made one biome way too huge, now they make some of them extremely hard to find. Gahhh.. lol
In case anybody is interested, here are the biomes that I have encountered so far in 1.7...
I am encountering pretty much nothing but Forests. 1.7 is the reason I hate Forests. Every time I spawn in a Forest, I delete that world and never use that seed again.
Some other biomes I am frequently encountering other than forests are Plains and Extreme Hills (at least I'm encountering Extreme Hills frequently). Every now and then, however, I will encounter a swamp or a desert. Once or twice, I have encountered a Mesa biome. (I even encontered a Bryce Mesa once.) Also, in one world I managed to spawn in a savannah. I have NEVER seen a Jungle in 1.7.
----I didn't know there were so many variations of the same biomes, I thought there were just 2 rare variations between all of them but since there's technically like 6 or so 'super cool rare biomes' then it's fine that their rare, because you're sure to run into one of them.
It is a reason for a truely epic quest. Try travelling by boat as much as possible, making maps of the coastlines as you travel. You might want to explore deserts from horseback, though, to see their interior. I have yet to find the rare biomes, but it is not as if they have anything really necessary, just price items.
It may not have been a problem for you Kwitch, but it was a problem for me and others who have made similar complaints. I followed all of your advice about exploring the edges of the biomes and not traveling in a straight line. The result was that I indeed found a mesa, but only after I had spent about ten hours exploring. I thoroughly explored every hot biome I came across. To give you an idea of how many deserts I explored, I ended up raiding about twenty desert temples and five desert villages before I found a mesa.
Someone on that other thread we were on mentioned that he was looking at seeds with AMIDST and he did in fact find seeds where there were almost no rare biomes within 10,000 blocks of spawn. So it does happen.
Yes, you do make a good point about Mushroom Islands also being rare, but I would respond by pointing out that Mushroom Islands have great benefits - unlimited free food and no monsters. This justifies their rarity. The other rare biomes do not offer similar benefits to likewise justify the difficulty with with they must be sought.

I don't agree that the other rare biomes have nothing to offer.
The Mesa biome has tons of hardened clay, both stained and unstained, just waiting to be mined. This is a huge advantage over the alternative, searching swamps and coasts for clay, digging underwater, and then smelting it.
The Jungle biome now has melons, another valuable resource that has been traditionally been hard to find. Before, melons could only be acquired through finding an abandoned mineshaft and exploring it, or by finding a village (or starting your own) and carefully cultivating your farmers.

But if those biomes take several hours to find, it is much easier and less frustrating to just smelt the clay and find melon seeds in a chest.
Thing is, seeds are random. You can't really get around that.
Yes, you can argue over things which are random. Every random event has a probability of occurring - a real number you can calculate. In my opinion, the probability of these biomes occurring is too low.

TheMasterCaver's First World - possibly the most caved-out world in Minecraft history - includes world download.
TheMasterCaver's World - my own version of Minecraft largely based on my views of how the game should have evolved since 1.6.4.
Why do I still play in 1.6.4?

Congrats!!! -SethBling lol...
Thanks actually everyone, and seriously congrats on 1,100
But watch, I'm gonna spawn in a mesa.. lol

This is really old and idk if it's still relevant, but if you used a seed for your world, you can use the seed to find biomes here: chunkbase.com
