Minecraft is changing 24/7 and I find it's losing its touch now. Don't you guys remember when it was 1.8.1 and the end just came out, and the snow golem was coming out after that? Those were the days, post your favour tut version here!
My favorite version was 1.2.5-1.3.2.
That was the version it was when I bought Minecraft. (1.2.5) I also joined my favorite server then, and those two versions were the best times I had on that server.
Minecraft is not losing its touch. if anything it has improved and gotten even more fun. Or are you saying we should go back to the stone age when food did not stack and there was no redstone etc.
On topic : my favorite version is the new 1.7 update which is right around the corner (and I have been here since alpha).
I think the fact that they are still adding new stuff to the game is great. It keeps it interesting & for me it keeps me going back to play. I am really looking forward to the 1.7 full release & all the new stuff it is adding. Not many companies will release this much new content & not charge more money for it. Also people don't have to use the current version if they don't want to. I know it is hard for people making mods like my two sons but as a player all the new updates are fun. New things to craft, discover & places to explore, what is not to like?
my favorite version is 1.8 Beta, right before enchantments and food stacking , but still had redstone and minecarts! and it also had the hunger bar i believe. i liked the update so much i actually had a youtube series on it! XD also, i like the new updates but even with the new zombies minecraft is just getting easier!
A little. I feel ya, really. Few points I felt like making here, sorry:
1) Software has been steadily moving away from the concept of a 'release' or a 'final' version. games included. Lol, I'm confident you have all noticed this. Especially in the PC space. Same has happened with Wow, has it not? Perhaps someone can help me with some more examples.
2) Community is way more involved.. amirite? Players are closer than ever to the developers of the games they play. As a result we see creators being cajoled, or in some cases, bullied, into making changes.
And I have mixed feelings! And I'm sure I'm not the only one. First of all, Minecraft v1.0 was timed to release with a Minecon event, was it not? 'Release' dates.. see #1 above.. sigh. Seemed kind of pointless to me to assign a v1.0 to a game that most of us had been playing for a good year, and we know would go through MANY more incarnations.
But the new features are what keep people excited about the game and keep coming back to it! If they had stopped with the 'Adventure Update' then how many people would still be playing and talking about the game?
While minecraft has had some questionable choices made in development (zombie AI, internal servers for single player) The direction is still good, and I can't help but appreciate continued updates. Were they any other company they could easily of stopped updating and just ran with the money, but they choose to stay with the game. Even if some updates I dislike, I still appreciate continued development.
And before you guys say "well there are always mods", mods require compatibility with each other, so everything added in the main game is something you no longer need to worry about being compatible.
Of course it's changing! Before it was a very empty game and now there are endless possibilities. Survival used to be the only option but now we have minigames, creative, custom maps and all kinds of other options! I have yet to see a change or addition in Minecraft that I dislike!
It's always been like Mojang to change the game. They've explained this since day one. I welcome every last bit of it. Most companies could care less about fresh content on a game they've already profited off of. It's very nice of them to keep it open and updated.
The change is done in a good measured way, it keeps things interesting but doesn't cause major spikes in the learning curve for us to deal with after every update. I've been playing since beta 1.3 and I think that the changes are what keeps the game going. The constant flow of new updates has an almost poetic quality, as the players travel their worlds and servers and discover new things (not just new features either, just new places that are unlike any other thanks to the random generation of terrain), Minecraft itself discovers new things about where it can go and what it is. I was very afraid when the official release happened that we would lose this constant updating for good, and I am very glad that we have kept it.

Yes, stupid additions that killed the game for me include:
1) The End (endermen were fine)
2) Witches + everything that has to do with them
3) Enchantments and Potions (made the game way too easy)
4) Mountains (while they are kind of cool, they are more of hills, real mountains would be 4,000+ blocks tall
5) Mushroom biomes
6) Villages (they just don't seem natural at all, and most of the time people just use everything in them as a head start, ruins the game.)
7) Bonus Chest (self explanatory, free head start)
8) Horses (This was just a retarded move by Mojang in my opinion)
9) All the biomes added in 1.7 besides the watermelon Jungle semi-biome (They just aren't realistic at all )
10) Many... Many more..
Religion, has actually convinced people, that there's an invisible man, living in the sky, who watches everything you do every minute of the day, and the invisible man has a special list. Of 10 things he doesn't want you to do. And if you do ANY of these ten things he has a special place, full of fire, and smoke, and burning, and torture, and will send you there to suffer and choke and scream for all of eternity... But he still loves you.

I would like to point out that a possible reason is a marketing technique. for example we all know minecraft Xbox is probably never going to catch up to this version now. Maybe Xbox but when Xbox one comes out many people will re buy it, Especially since they know its going to be updated for a long time.
It grabs people's attention when game developers release new content for free and often.
Also the modding community is helping to keep the game alive.
And to this topic No it has not changed to much. Maybe in how different 1.6 is to 1.7 and that some players may have problems adjusting, other then that no. But of course, This can only be answered with opinions.

I really shouldn't reply but I will disapprove your thoughts and possibly some opinions. I will also be nice about it.
1. The end, Probably shouldn't of been added right away but this was when notch was still making it. There is still so much that can be done with the end and there is no point in going there other then getting an egg to say "I beat the dragon." In my opinion this was one of notches final stand changes in minecraft.
2. Opinion based, I cannot disprove you 3. To even get those enchantments are not always easy, Especially if your a player that dies a lot. Last I knew a level 28 enchantment was semi hard and 40 took for ever. Potions are not always easy to obtain. 4. Amplified is the right mode for you then. You now have 7 reasons. 5. Then don't go there, they are rare enough
6. Some things are meant to give a head start. Look for changes possibly in 1.8-.19 7.DISABLE
8. Apparently you haven't seen the mule. Opinion based. 9. Incase you haven't noticed the game is no that realistic already. Some times realism can make or break a game. In biomes case break.
10. ????
It just upsets me when there are complaints that shouldn't be there because they can be easily avoided. Some examples in bold.
The only things I'm not liking now are the new textures... They don't seem to fit, and are "so pretty they're ugly" in a way due to the incongruence problem.
It all depends when you start. I started in 1.2 and I had "that feeling" but now, I am used to how minecraft works. I know everything about the game. I wish I could go back, but you got to move on.
The game hasn't changed too much. You have. I started playing Minecraft in beta 1.6, and has some of my best experiences up until about beta 1.8. Until beta 1.8 came along, I was still a newbie. I had no clue what I was doing. The game could still surprise me. Many ideas still felt fresh. By the time beta 1.8 came out, I knew pretty much everything about the game, and things stopped being as exciting. Part of me wants to blame it on the terrain changing or the hunger mechanics making me need a farm but I know good and well that the game became less exciting once i knew what to expect. Pretty much everything in any new Minecraft update can either be enjoyed or easily ignored. Don't like new mobs? Ignore them. Don't like jungles? Avoid them. Think enchantments and potions make the player OP (at least I do)? Don't use them. Dislike the new blocks? Don't use them. The list really goes on like that.
