I've updated my server with the new jar and I've updated my client with the new launcher and have meandered quite a long ways away from home to try and find a horse amongst the plains and I haven't found a single one yet! I've been at it for a few hours and my only goal is to find a horse. Are they supposed to be hard to find?
Keep in mind, I changed the minecraft jar name (minecraft_server.1.6.jar) after duplicating the minecraft jar in the server folder. Should I have just left it alone and added it to the folder and not renamed it?
I've also been able to make leads and hay bales and the main menu in the app screen says 1.6 and my server says 1.6 as well.
My mate at work tried to locate some but couldnt. So he left some hay bales out near his base, then went for another look, still didnt find any, but when he came back to base, two horses had appeared near the hay!
Ok I've restarted my server, re-installed it on my Mac and left some bales of hay out. I took a 4 MC day walk around covering about 1000 square Minecraft meters. I hit about 4 "Plains" biomes in my travels (found 2 temples as well) but alas...no horses. I've seen a video on Youtube () and this guy seems to find them in herds in the plains. Somethings gotta be up with my configuration seeing as though I covered quite a large area and didn't find any. Any other ideas?
Hey mate, i have the same problem as you... I downloaded the prerelease and i downloaded the minecraft 1.6 server from the post on mojang website. I didnt touch at any folders or files. I travelled on a square of 8000x8000 blocks near the spawn and found more then 5 plains and found no horse. After that, i tried to re-download the server/launcher, and the same thing occured, no horses... After that, as for my last try, i changed my gamemode in creative to fly, and i did and even bigger square then the first i explored, and still no fkn horses... Please help me, i downloaded the pre-release especially for the horses feature, soo... yeah, plz, i need your help guys...
If you are having trouble finding Horses, and just want to give them a go, try this seed: 967793191
From spawn, walk, fly, or /tp to x: -825, y: 70, z: 30. You should be in a village surrounded by horses. The Plains surrounding the village is chock full of them.
I believe this might be your problem. If you've previously explored the chunks you're searching for horses in, you won't find them there.
Well, i just made the map, i made the map, went to mine, made my house and after that went to find horses, i didnt find some until yesterday... aproximatly 32 000 blocks from my house... Anyway, i brought a horse and a donkey back to my house, it was dang long... Thanks anyway guys...Soo I conclude, that it can be really easy to find sometimes and very hard another time.... Depends on biome generation, seed and a few other factors, oh, and of course: sometimes its random...
i dont beleive seeds have anything to do with mob generation but i have some tips considering i was able to find a horse within about thirty minutes of travel. i looked up spawning on the wiki before i left to find them and found that a chunk has a 1/9 chance to spawn with new mobs upon generation. so the best bet was to explore as many plains as i could. after probably the third plains i found a group of 4 horses just like the wiki said they spawned. it is very unlikely but mobs will sometimes spawn in already generated chunks. dont know the chances but i would just explore.
