I find it funny that people are saying that this makes the game harder. Golden apples are nigh-useless, especially on easy mode where you can let natural regen take care of damage (since damage scales with difficulty, but regeneration doesn't). I can only see this affecting UHC, which makes no sense because A) you're catering to a mod and B.) you're just extending the length of time where you don't have an effective healing source.
I don't see why the nerf was made in the first place, though. It's pretty pointless, the first tier of golden apples only heals 2 hearts and comes after it would be useful (the time it would be useful being at the start, before you get iron armor; chances are you would get 24 iron before you get 8 gold).
What is hilarious, however, is that people were complaining that the game is too easy and then when Dinnerbone makes the game slightly more difficult, and people get up in arms that Dinnerbone is ruining Easy mode when Easy is the least effected difficulty. Granted, TVflea is apparently opposed to all difficulty additions of any sort that effect Easy, but still...
(On the proposed solution: that seems overpowered to me. Regain a ton of health that's hard to lose in the first place and then make it even harder to lose for a time? No. It's not necessary due to the lack of difficulty.)
(Edit: Just an FYI, but at the time of posting I did not know what the hunger balancing was.)

thing is this stuff is EXCLUSSIVLY for a mod, which only a certain group of folks enjoy. But healing items have been screwed across the board. Potions are lowered enough that the 1 second to sip isnt worth it in a pinch and gold apples cost is raised 9 fold! 9! Thats huge, absolutely huge.
He really should just let the uhc players do their own thing and not cater to such a niche group at the expense of others.

Imagine that, dinnerbone makes easy mode (a difficulty that is supposed to be easy) way too difficult, and people get angry. What a strange world we live in.
Furthermore, I don't see how bringing me into your expert-gamer rant strengthens your argument.

I don't know how potions were "balanced", but from what I understand these nerfs are completely in the wrong direction.
For one thing: the golden apples seem like Mojang is catering to UHC (as I said I don't know the specifics about potions). Mojang should be catering to Vanilla, not UHC, for obvious reasons.
Two: if Mojang wants to make health harder to get, he should nerf hunger's health regen (once again I do not know the specifics of the nerfs) instead of the two healing items. Or, better yet, nerf armor so that health is easier to lose (and thus the methods of regaining it have more meaning).

Did something happen to you in your childhood to give you this unreasonable fear of rutabaga?

The problem? Nerfing golden apples does not suddenly push easy mode in to über masochist territory (or even hard or just normal). It, in fact, barely makes a difference. Point being, it's not getting way too difficult (if you get far enough to get golden apples, chances are you have iron armor which makes you nigh invulnerable on easy, and if you can't get to that point then the difficulty level is right for you). By the time you can get golden apples, you've already passed the point in the game where they would be most helpful.

Kholdstare, I have a question: If mojang kept the new changes in hardcore, would you be remotely happy?

I wasn't talking about apples, I was talking about potions. If you look at the first post I made in this thread, you'd see that I think the apple thing is fine, because gold is very abundant.
However, potions are quite useless, and ruin the aspect of easiness in easy mode, as you need to kill more ghasts to regenerate the same amount of health. This is not fun, this is not challenging, this is just repetitious.
The gold nugget recipe made the most sense of all, you are essentially plating an apple with gold. I still think the Notch apple recipe is completely dumb and should have never been made, even though it was the original recipe.

so true. Steve eating 8 blocks at once when hes barely 2 blocks big makes no sense.... and i wouldnt want to think of the bathroom trip ether.
Oh hey, it's the LIM (Logic Into Minecraft) people. Guys, if Minecraft was anywhere near logical, sheeps won't turn completely blue just by rubbing them with this blue stone (lapis lazuli) and instantly regrow blue wool back right after eating grass:
Anyways, back on-topic, I agree that Mojang should keep easy easy and normal normal, but the changes made this snapshot barely affects those difficulties. I don't know if you've played Minecraft before, but just by having a full set of iron armor, you're almost invulnerable even in hard.

Crush it up, mix with water, apply? And since a minecraft day is shorter it sped up that process by just rubbing it on a sheep.
It's a stone... Still doesn't explain the instant regrowing of blue wool just right after eating grass.
That's true, and diamonds aren't usually so blue either. I just liked that they already had gold nuggets in the game and applied them to a golden apple recipe. Even though minecraft doesn't always make sense, I like when they atleast try to follow cause and effect logic. There was really no good reason for this change, they could have just nerfed the one we had already(less healing).
The regeneration nerf is kinda iffy, as it no longer helps against wither and poison effects. You now NEED regeneration IV from the uber apple to counter with/ poison II. Which quiet frankly is absurd. And getting rid of the nugget apple is not the way to go, it completely removes it's purpose as a small healing item.
Oh, and stop implementing mods Mojang, you already gave us horses from mo'creatures, you don't need to give us a mod that is rarely used.
Wait, hold on, Dinner bone just tweeted something as I was typing this:
"How to know when you've ticked some people off: All your reddit comments go into negatives. Hey guys, it's a snapshot, it's all changing!"
Instead, add middle-tier Golden apple that uses Golden Ingots.
The middle-tier Golden Apple should have...
10 seconds of Regeneration II.
30 seconds of Resistance.
No fire resistance.
The low and high tier golden apple should stay.
STOP making the Easy and Normal mode harder! Hard mode is meant to be hard. Easy and normal isn't.
Basically: 3 type of Golden Apples: Nuggets, Ingots and Blocks.
However gold isn't that hard to find...

Sure we know its not scientifically possible but small stuff you can dismiss and other stuff is a little too crazy to see with a straight face.
