I can't wait for 1.6! <3 Horses are going to be so exciting, and I can't wait to make houses with all of the new blocks! Especially stained clay, it's a lot more smoother than wool.
Horses are a good feature on their own, but they are dragged down by the systems that they are involved in which are not good.
Horses can be used to explore, but there's no point in exploring anyway; the terrain generator is too repetitive.
Horses can be used for combat, but in PvP they're just another piece of gear to collect so that you can beat everyone else (as we all know that PvP is where you need god-tier equipment; since there's no skill involved in PvP disregarding bows, you must turn the tides with gear... horses do not add any skill, only an extra target that you don't need to kill and significantly more mobility). In PvE... well, the same rules with PvP apply, except you don't need god-tier gear as mobs are too easy. Most of them can be killed with iron gear. Riding in to battle against mobs is just overkill or target practice.
The only thing left is transportation. Not particularly exciting, eh? I could do it before on foot or via minecart. Horses add here, but it's a pretty dull facet of the game in the first place and horses do not improve it; they don't need to improve it, either, they just make a trip faster which is good enough for me.
As for coal blocks and hardened clay, they're nice but honestly, building is already the second best aspect in the game (only dominated by Redstone since it combines the creativity and freedom of building with a new method of interacting with the world... not to mention that it goes hand-in-hand with building should you choose to use it), and in all honesty building and redstone are the only good aspects in the game (the others are either bad, simply mediocre, or too shallow). We don't need to improve building: it is already good. Focus on the other aspects.
Hence, i'd much rather prefer a different update. Nothing new here, just more of the same. (I'm still stuck trying to figure out what the bloody hell the theme is... seems more like it has no theme than anything)
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
Did something happen to you in your childhood to give you this unreasonable fear of rutabaga?
While 1.6 is not going to change my game the same way that 1.5 did, in the long run it is going to be a lot more appreciated. Most of the stuff in 1.6 happens in the engine instead of the interface, which points to bug fixes and work towards the long awaited mod API. For example, the upgrade to LWJGL 2.9 (and probably a bunch of internal changes) means that I can run 64px texpacks without using MCpatcher.
I have mixed feelings on it. While I do like the horses and the new blocks, I really wish they would make an update for nothing but terrain generation, adding new biomes and making the current ones look more natural.
I'm always excited for new updates. I stay out of the Minecraft Cycle, I enjoy free content given to me. If there's bugs, I'll report them, but I won't complain and whine about changes to a game simply because I feel it ruins my nostalgic old back feelings about the game. Free content is free content, and it's not like the content is something you are forced to use. I will enjoy the luxury of Mojang giving us free content even after a games release, and I'm glad that this content will attract more and more people to continue to purchase this game.
As always, I love EVERY update that Mojang adds. I'm not very picky with the updates. Even if they take out things or nerf things than I still like them. I am very pleased with this update, though. Of course because they added horses! A lot of people hate on the horses, but me, I love them in the game. But lets not forget, the carpets, hardened clay, more badass zombies, etc.
I'm looking forward to 1.6 since it is free content, but nothing is particularly exciting for me. Horses will be neat, and maybe some texture packs can make hardened clay look sexy (polished/stained colored floor? Oh yes~), but what else? I'm absolutely grateful for the work Mojang does, but there's just so little content. Hopefully that changes before release, or they add the render rewrite. More world gen options would be nice too.
Incredible. They seem to be adding more challenges to combat (the zombie spawning feature), horses are amazing for adventuring, and the hardened clay and carpets are great additions for builders. Also, leads are great in general, not just for horses but for setting up animal farms as well. No more trying to lead sheep across entire biomes while holding out wheat and moving backwards. I like that they're not neglecting any feature of the game. I think there's still some tweaking to be done with horses. They're almost too overpowered to be honest, I feel like they could add some limitations with what you can and can't do or have a speed hit for some things (for example, it takes longer to mine stuff while you're on it, as if you're underwater). I feel like they should also move slower up hills. But all in all, they're really pulling no punches with these updates and it shows that they really care about what the community wants.

I'm sure it's coming sometime. Re-doing biome generation would be a massive change. It's been pretty much the same for so long. I wish people would just be happy with what we get rather than what we don't get, and I wish they wouldn't assume that just because it's not happening now doesn't mean Mojang isn't thinking about it. Also, if they re-do biome generation, they have to add more things that justify the change. What are the different biomes? Why would you want to go to them? I think there needs to be more unique things to find in biomes before they re-do the generation, and assuming they do a biome update, it would probably a wholescale change that adds a bunch of new biome-dependent features. It's just too much to "tack on" to an update. Horses seem to be the focus of this one. Maybe there's something else coming that we don't know about. New biome generation would probably be in its own update. Maybe 1.7?
What they are obviously saying is that other then horses, there is almost nothing coming that will change how a person plays, and if a person doesn't find horses that cool, then the update does almost nothing for them, now I do like the fact that mojang is still giving out few content, but this update seems like: "Lets see, copy and paste some mods code for horses, then, um, hum, add some random stuff no one cares about, and, ah, yeah, 1.6"
On a side note, the new launcher is the best thing about the new update, but I really don't consider that to be part of the update.
Praise be to Spode.

Im pretty sure that was a typo in the naming, the proper name is "leash".

Nope, its not a typo. Lead (pronounced LEED) is another name for leash.

So little content? What are you on about?
