please help, after updating minecraft all the servers on multiplayer say "can't resolve hostname" and on the front page, there is no texture pack option, just "singleplayer" and "multiplayer" is that how its suppose to be or what?

Texture Pack is now under the "Options" tab, allowing you to switch between different textures packs in game.

As for the servers, they are probably not updated to 1.5 yet.
