I mean, there are a TON of awesome changes, but it was just a little disappointing because all they did was add what they talked about at minecon and just gave up
(minus hoppers)
I VERY frequently use redstone, and I LOVE the features, but not enough other aspects of the game were looked at
Why did they need to look at other aspects if the update is focused on redstone? You act like this is the final update of the game, as if other updates won't improve other stuff.
The point of the new updates is to speed up update releases. Thats why they are focusing on a central point with every update now. This update is pefectly inline with what should be in an update that rolls out every month or two. If you dont like this update wait for the next in a short amount of time.
when yesterday's snapshot came out, they mentioned that we may have a potential prerelease of 1.5 in a few weeks.
I feel that they have not sufficiently added enough content for a major update
I know it's the redstone update, but I feel that other aspects of the game were not looked at enough.
anyone feel the same?
I feel like they revolutionized redstone plenty to make it qualified as a major release.
Why would the redstone update affect all parts of gameplay when it is supposed to be a redstone update?
Anyway, curse doesn't run Mojang, and curse is the one who GUESSED that because the last snapshot was mostly bug fixes it means that 1.5 is soon to be released, but Mojang hasn't commented about the rendering engine updates and lighting engine updates that they said were going to be in 1.5, if 1.5 were coming soon I imagine they want the rendering and lighting updates tested as a snapshot first, or they would at least tell us if they were moved to 1.6 or something.

ragnarock200: awesome, are those things with the creeper faces pistons or furnaces

I wonder what the theme of 1.6 would be then.... Aesthetics? Light? *shrugs*
Considdering the ammount of work that goes into the large changes like adding comparitors and hoppers etc. Its not like they are just adding one or two inert blocks. Then all the stuff with scoreboards etc, I will probably never use myself but its nice for the people who will. Don't forget changing the way texturepacks function. I mean they really dropped some serious changes.
I won't lie I am human and that makes me naturally greedy so yeah I would love to see more content, since more is better. Overall I think they have crammed in sufficient content to justify bumping 1.4 to 1.5, not that they really need my consent
And you never know they could be holding back a surprise or two.
-Hoppers
-Droppers
-More dispenser functionality
-Snow slabs
-Fixed some lighting issues
-Comparator
-/scoreboard
-teams for /scoreboard
-Activator rail
-TNT cart
-Custom mob names
-Redstone block
-Balanced Bonemeal
-Up and down dispensers/droppers
-Skeletons and Zombies are stronger
-Texture back can be changed in game
-Minecart with hopper
-New functionality for command blocks
-New texture system
-More death messages
-Trapped chests
-Daylight sensor
-Weighted pressure plates
-Tile entity capacitators
-Quartz blocks
-Nether brick item for crafting Nether Brick
-New ore in the Nether
More to come also. I don't see how this isn't enough for an update. There's more I didn't mention too.
There are also a few more like /testfor
I think it's a complete update, and can't wait for the full release.
"To much features! Game chances too much!"
"Not enough features, why update?"
"Game is too easy, they are practicly handing stuff to us!"
"Game is too hard, I have to work for stuff!"
"It sucks because it is always the same!"
"It sucks because it isn't the same anymore!"
SO MUCH RANT! Not everyone could be pleased. In my opinion, you shouldn't be complaining! It is an update, is it not? It adds new features, right? "BUT WAIT! The second number goes up more! IT HAS TO BE A HUGE UPDATE ELSE IT SUCKS!" It adds more than a normal update. You should just be happy they are updating! Minecraft has become popular enough that they could stop updated and they will continue to make money for a long time.

Just gave up? What? They gave up what? They definitely didn't give up Minecraft, they didn't give up this update, what did they give up? Just because they stopped adding features and figured it was good for a release, doesn't mean they gave up. That is like saying that I gave up when I got done eating, or that you gave up walking your dog for the day because you gave it a nice sized walk.

they didn't give up minecraft, I just would've appreciated a steady flow of features, like it was with the 1.4 snapshots

You said they gave up. If your saying that they are not adding as much features are YOU would want, they still are not giving up. And 1.4 was a bigger update than normal, not the usual. Still, this is a steady flow of features. Anymore and people would be complaining that there is too much. Scratch that, people already are complaining about too many updates and too few updates.
I suppose it is low on actual, physical content, but most of those things can be applied in a lot of different ways so that all the features added up in to something that the major features of 1.4 cannot compete with.
Of course, whether you will use those features or not is another story. If you don't use redstone, all you get out of the update is a little more difficulty and a nice new building block.
Even though 1.5 has a few features, there was only one feature that actually generated hate (and even then it was favorably balanced out). This update, while I don't think it was necessary at this moment, was a good update.
The dispenser has been split into the dropper, and dispenser.
The nether finally has an ore of its own, giving people much more of a reason to go there.
Dispensers and droppers can face any direction. That is a significant change.
We finally get marble (quartz) blocks, slabs, stairs, and two variations of it.
We now have a way to measure the fullness of inventories.
We now have a chest that acts as a trap, sending out a redstone signal.
We now have an awesome new texture format, which allows for textures higher than 16x
Now, if you still think the update is low on content (with at least a couple more snapshots coming our way) then you're one of those people who just can't be pleased.
Why did they need to look at other aspects if the update is focused on redstone? You act like this is the final update of the game, as if other updates won't improve other stuff.

Redstone block also doubles as aesthetic block

Only Redstone getting focused content in the Redstone Update? You don't say.

1.5 is actually changing the game in a crazy way.
IMO 1.5 is the best update since the adventure update, minecart update, or piston update.

...but that's just like, my opinion, man.
But there is a steady flow of features...
But the redstone block is actually useful; It's a movable redstone torch.
