You know 1.7 at the time was considered lack luster as other then pistons, content put forward by a Modder, it didn't add a whole lot much else and it was supposed to be the Adventure Update. The only reason it is brought up as much as it is, is because it was the last version before 1.8 and the game changed. If it weren't for that 1.7 would be remembered as the update Mojang got lazy. In general though, progress during Beta wasn't nearly as dramatic as people seem to think it was since there was so much bug fixing being done too.
Exactly. Personally, I remember it as the updates that broke my concealed piston door 3 times in 8 days.
To answer the OP, no. I'm looking forward to Nether Quartz and, to a much lesser extent, hopper.
Its getting better, but the choice of things to add is getting poor, they're justing piling on content at this point and not starting anything really new or revolutionary..what they should REALLY be focusing on is the Aether(opposite of the nether, NOT THE MOD), or something like the terrain.
1.5 is probably the most "Minecraft-y" update there's been for some time. It's all things to make redstone more engaging -- it's an update that adds more options to do things people have wanted to do in the vanilla game for a long time.
Minecraft has largely been on an upward move. Honestly the quality of the game took a dip there during the server-client merge, but that's almost all behind us now and things are just getting cooler every week. Except maybe the hopper's texture and shape -- they just need to make that a block or a pipe already.

Make note: I generally avoid being insulting. If I sound insulting, I'm probably joking.
My thoughts exactly. Seems like these threads are becoming a trend or something... <.<
Personally, this is one of the better updates I've seen. I may not use the snapshots, but I'm already developing some nice uses for daylight sensors and hoppers in my survival world. Though if an update seriously bothers anyone, why not either refuse to update or just downgrade? I've never understood that. :\ There will always be complainers. Can't fight that I suppose...
I personally agree. It is really starting to lose the frontier feel. It feels like the game is going thru an industrial revolution of sorts. All the redstone gadgets will automate everything and if the redstone can't, I am sure there is a mod that can. I would like to see the next "focused" update try to bring back some the "roughing" it feel the game is losing. Just my personal opinion of course.
.....except for the part where no, it hasnt lost ANY of that.
There is only one way in which the game could lose that: if it created the automated machines *for* you. Which it doesnt.
Redstone has been in the game for quite some time. Quite some time indeed. And automating many things has been possible for a long while as well. Hell, people were using things like automatic mob farms and stuff when I started playing way back in early Alpha.
And even then, the only way to automate ANYTHING is if YOU specifically collect all of the redstone and various blocks and whatever and then assemble it yourself. Not one bit of this happens if you dont want it to or arent interested in it. And all of that automation comes with a price, which are those materials and the time that it takes to construct the gizmo that does the automating.
And really, this new update goes along with all of that, AND it fits the theme of the game perfectly. Even without redstone, as you progress through any given world, things are going to get easier for you, and you'll be able to do certain things faster and faster. You start out with just wood and stone tools.... but soon you can move to iron, allowing you to mine that much faster and hit enemies harder. Soon you'll have enough iron to make full armor, which lets you not have to worry about dying quite as much. And then, diamonds happen... letting you mine even FASTER and get access to obsidian, allowing you to build Nether portals for faster travel. That's generally how the flow of this game has always worked. As you go through it, you find more stuff, MAKE more stuff, and these allow you to find and make even MORE stuff, and so on.
Redstone is just another option for doing so, except that Redstone has always been a rather obscure and obtuse feature of the game for many players. It's hard to learn, and it's practical applications in Survival are limited. This new update looks to change some of that. It's not going to make everything all broken and easy.... it's just giving you that many more options. And in a game like this, *more* options are NEVER a bad thing. Like the hopper, for example. Eventually I plan to use it to make an automatic sorter.... something where I can just throw heaps of items into it, and it automatically sorts them and puts them into the proper chests. This does not break the game or anything.... what it does is give me more time for other tasks, time that would otherwise be spent organizing whatever loot I'd just brought back. This is just another option that lets me speed some things up, make some other things less annoying, whatever.
As for this topic itself.... sigh.
I tend to see this sort of thread kinda like this: "They're doing an update focused on Redstone/whatever, instead of the content that *I* think they should be putting in, therefore the game is going off track!"
It gets old, it does. But cant please them all, I guess.
i don't think its getting worse i just think having to much advanced stuff in it would make it worse. how ever i think their focusing on graphics and that stuff big time my minecraft has been getting slower from each update since 1.2 i reckon.
If America had a dollar that goes to it's debt for every person making a thread like this...

Message me yours if you want to trade in Animal Crossing: New Leaf or just need some friends to play with. I can also do Pokemon trades in Pokemon X(or Y), but I don't have any good stuff, and the only good stuff I have is not for trade so...send me requests anyway.

I dont think the game is getting better or worse i think its changing and new types of people will like minecraft how it is and others will like it how it was so posts like this shouldnt be posted because this is your answer to this post.
Do you think minecraft is going down hill as far as the new snapshot such as nehter quartz and hoppers, I think its going off track of how minecraft is supposed to be!
I think everything they do is great! Even though I'd like them to work on other things I still appreciate all the new stuff they put out & I love all off it! Thanks Mojang!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Now-a-day's everything new in Minecraft is just a simple block addition
That can be ignored and doesn't affect gameplay at all
But nether quartz gives me more of a reason to goto the nether
IMO the updates were okay recently, but they weren't exactly what Minecraft needs. 1.5 looks really promising, but do we really need more redstone RIGHT NOW? The update is good, but they need to fix the terrain and combat as the game is really easy and dull in every aspect except for building (and i'm bored of building...)

Yep, combat in Minecraft is simply *click* *click* *click* until your opponent falls.

You shall not pass! - Gandalf the Grey vanquishing the Balrog
Minecraft is developing. It's a game with a lifespan, something that we all have. One day it was born, someday it will die. For now, it is alive.
We were all kids once, not too well educated, nor logical, reasonable thinkers. Minecraft was sort of like that, it was in a state known as Beta. It was a good game, but it was very simple... sort of like how we were as kids. Alive and developing, but not complicated in the least.
However, we all have (or will someday have) reached a point where we're no longer kids, but teens, beginning to really get a grasp on the life that we were blessed to have as we finish our development. Minecraft became a 'teen' when it was released, and now it's beginning to get a grasp on what it is, what it's capable of, and where it will go. Eventually it'll reach a point where it will no longer develop, but sit in a state of vanilla stasis. There will be modders taking the game and doing their own things with it (maybe this can be symbolic with a human having different careers in his lifetime). But eventually, the game itself will die. It will be remembered, but there will be little to no people playing it at some point.
That's how I see the game. Right now, it's at the point where it's in its early teenhood. It has passed the point where it's a simple concept, and now it's becoming a fully fleshed out game that can have many different possibilities being done with it.
Minecraft might be getting worse for you, since you liked Minecraft when it was a 'kid'. We all wish we were a kid once again, having everything simple... but we must realize that being a kid was merely a stage in development. If we stayed as children forever, we'd have nothing to become of ourselves.
Likewise, Minecraft would have nothing to become of it if it just stayed as it was back in the days of Beta. We must develop if we want to reach our fullest potential. That, my friends, is the case with Minecraft.
Now that I realized that no game is going to develop forever, I sort of feel sad. One of the main reasons why I am still playing MC since alpha is because of the updates.
