Well Gold, Lapis and Emerald blocks have no purpose. They are only for storage and looks. I don't see what would be wrong for doing that for Coal and Nether Quart. Maybe they could even some small uses.
I just want anything dropped by ores to be craftable into a block.
Gold is used for clocks, powered rails, instant health potions, invisibility potions, and uber enchanted stuff. Lapis is... a dye... it makes... Yea lapis is useless. But emeralds can the most over powered thing in the game, giving you unlimited food, unlimited armor, awesome enchants, get an army of robots on your side... But yea, not useless.
But I would like coal blocks and quartz blocks. Theyd so pretty and shiny.
Lapis quickly fills all your chests, that's you have a block for them.
Gold/Iron/Diamond/Emeralds are more rare than coal, but can eat up a lot of space in chests too
Coal and quartz are special. You consume coal the most, making them not a chest filler and a resource you quickly run out of.
Quartzes however would still make sense to get a block, but coal? Nah.
Dunno what you're talking about. Coal is most certainly a chest filler. Whenever I go spelunking I typically end up with several stacks of coal, and a single stack of said coal is more than enough for the iron and gold I run into.

I was not talking about that. I was talking about the block forms of them. They are used for nothing but looks and storage. I think Coal and Nether Quart should apply.

Diamond, emerald, and gold blocks can be used for the pyramid of a beacon.
Perhaps Jeb could make it so that placing Nether Quartz blocks in front of a beacon beam can both, if used in a certain way, bend the beacon beam 90 degrees in any direction you want and also amplify the beam into a Laser!
Nether Quartz Laser, with Redstone control. Oh yeah baby!

Redstone lasers would make more sense with rubies, as those are commonly used for lasers.
Jeb said that they are working on Nether Quartz blocks for decoration.

Well that's all fine and dandy good sir, But until you give a decent reason as to "why not make these blocks" then noone's really concerned about your oppinion. :y

I wasn't buying the 'for the sake of consistency' argument before, but now that Coal is going to be the absolute only ore without a decorative block, I think it's time for it to get one. If all of its brothers are going to get decorative blocks, especially a crumbly dust and a new guy to the table, why not Coal?

Would be neat if a coal block was actually a smoke block. No more webs floating from the tops of chimneys.
I would love a coal block just for the sake of storage. I have two overflowing coal chests already, it would be nice to condense it some. Or how about just making a new item that takes 9 coal to make and burns 9 times as long as one coal? I think that would be a bit more creative than just a large chunk of coal.
How about making COAL BLOCK needed to make furnace that is only for food? The old furnace would be only for smelting things. That would slow down this fast game for a little.
- coal block
This is actually an interesting idea. I think making a furnace(made with coal block) that's faster than a regular furnace would be nice. However, I think most people would be able to get this earlier on in the game so perhaps obsidian instead of cobblestone? Just ideas
I agree a coal block would be useful. The thing is, Diamonds, Gold, Emeralds, Iron, and to a certain extent Lapis Lazuli are all gems or metals. Coal, to my knowledge, is a rock- so I don't think it'd be very fitting. A Nether Quartz block, on the other hand, could be very nice.
And it disappoints me that nobody mentioned slime blocks. D:
Steve can make repeaters and pistons using the hammer on the side of the crafting table, so I'm sure he can figure out how to attach 9 rocks to each other.

Hopefully it looks better than the marble-y texture of lapis lazuli.
