I named a wooden sword: homerun bat. Gave the thing a whopping knockback X.
Haha. I gave another stick Knockback 200 (No idea what the roman numeral for 200 is), and named it "Enderman's Wand". Hit a mob with it and you will never see the mob again.
Sombody should make some sort of NBT edit guide for all of these new NBT features. So far we have Spawners, Potions, Item Names, Enchants, Heads, Generation Control, and more. I know how to use all but one, that is naming.

Here is how to name an item:
'
First, put the desired item into the first slot of the hotbar:
Then, exit Minecraft and select your worlds level.dat. Open Data, then Player, then Inventory, and then the first item in the inventory (the one at the very top of the list):
Add a compound called tag:
Then, add a compound to tag called display:
Add a string to display called Name:
Edit the value of the string. That value will be the item's name:
How to give items Lore:
Add a string list to display and call it Lore:
Add a string to Lore and type in anything you want:
Save and exit NBTEdit, and play Minecraft. Your item will have the Name and Lore you gave it:
A very awesome idea! I love what people have been able to do with the new editing mechanics.
I do have a question though:
Would it be possible to use this (or other MCEdit filters) to create custom spawn eggs?
They could be used to spawn any entity, but also entities with extra data (potion effects, velocity data, held items), just like the custom spawners do.
This would be especially helpful so you could give someone a wolf spawn egg that spawns a tamed wolf, and use coding similar to the "@p" command block command to make it be owned by the player who is nearest to it when it spawns.

On the idea of wands, I've been working on something like a magic staff as a new ranged weapon.
It could be crafted as a diamond above a redstone torch above a stick.
Using it like a bow, it could shoot the fire charges (which can't be thrown normally) and snowballs (with the added effect of spawning ice blocks around whatever mob it hits).
You could enchant it with infinity, just like the bow, or a new enchantment:
Thunderbolt (I-V).
The new enchantment would allow it staff to consume redstone dust as fuel and strike any open-air block with lightning; the lightning's damage corresponding to the level of enchantment.
I thought of other stuff too, but those are the basics.

This is turning into a great mod idea The only thing is that for some reason, even on 12w40b, I cannot find the "lore" tags in the [player].dat file with NEINedit Help?
Interesting, but doesn't appeal to me as a player just yet. Such an item as part of a more well-rounded magic mod would probably entice more interest. It does look fun, and with it's own texture would likely be fun to use.
I'll stick to my Tekkit/Vanilla preferences for now, but this has merit, and I'll keep an eye out for more on this.
The wand in use:
(I used NBTEdit to name the items, give them lore, and give them custom enchants)
So, has anyone else created some cool things with this feature?
I am ninja'd far too often.
Stick+Eye of Ender+(Gold/Lapis/Diamond/Emerald/Iron?/Redstone/Glowstone) And each wand would do a different spell.
You are A miner Steve!
With NBTEdit, I named a Stick "Magic Wand", made the Lore "Property of the Ender Academy", then I followed this guide to add custom enchants to it: http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/834177-enchanting-nbtedit-custom-enchantments-11211/

Ooh. Interesting. Unfortunately, Witches won't work with these, but I could give it to a zombie or pig zombie, or wither skeleton...

Praise be to Spode.

This is in my adventure map thus far, mostly end game stuff.

Bone of Sharpness X or whatever. Just as long as it's awesome.
