No system can transport items over 500 blocks away. Some servers with friends and familie have huge projects, like ours, and there is no possibility to play very close to each other.
Absolutely untrue my good sir. You need to be creative is all. Try an automated railroad IN the nether. you are multiplying the distance traveled by 8, while the cart travels twice as fast as a walking player (if kept at maximum speed). Even if the overworld distance exceeds 4000 meters (500 nether meters) you can carry the items in your inventory and ride the cart yourself (which also significantly improves the efficiency of powered rails).
the best part is that the carts at full speed travel 8 m/s approximately. That means 64 overworld m/s if it's in the nether. don't even get me started about the wonderful causality warping things minecarts do when they go diagonally across a horizontal plane.
Oh well, I guess I'll never bother to make one then. I can quite easily install the far superior mod version so why bother with the watered down vanilla one? I was hoping they would finally add an item that's just a little bit overpowered and endgamey, even if it was made of obsidian, endstone and diamond blocks. I guess overpowered and endgamey is what mods are for though these days, Mojang will always shy away from that sort of stuff.
Silk touch enchantment. It harvests whole enderchests, and is fairly endgamey.
I know how the Nether works. I also know that when en entity moves in whatever way beyond what ever area that is rendered for the players just stops right on its track. Meaning i actually have to move from A to B to transport the items myself. The beauty of the enderchest was that that you could mass transport item without to much effort. Thus removing something extreemly tedious from alot of players game play making the game more enjoyable. Moving 10+ doublechests from mine to area project by going back and fort aint no fun.
The main reason why everyone was against the Enderchest that it was an instant inventory extender without and drawbacks. Gues what we have now with the new Enderchest an inventory extender without any drawbacks. Most people wont even care if it breaks. If im in w/e area i can get all those items without to much effort. Now i can build dozens of those chests with the items i have waiting in my base which i rarely use.
my first point is that if you are within 4000 overworld blocks, you can let the items travel in the nether 500 blocks, and let your friend go through their own portal and get the items.
In addition, the enderchest was never meant to teleport doublechests of items at once (at that point, you're going somewhat overboard). Yes, you can't teleport the items continuously without visiting the base and emptying the end chest into another chest, but again, teleporting more than an chestful instantly? the end chest does have some drawbacks, in its limited capacity. No limit to how many chestcarts you can have, and each has the capacity of an entire endpocket. (and if you're working on a project, you can simply leave the stuff in the carts, and then move WITH the carts in another cart when you return to your base).
It's still extremely useful for transporting items between bases in singleplayer, and it can't be used as a backpack unless you either carry a silk-touch pick or carry a ton of eyes of ender to rebuild the chest every time you harvest it. that's endgamey enough, and is definitely what I would consider a drawback. Just because you personally don't consider collecting an enderpearl and blaze powder each time you draw and store items in the end, doesn't mean that it isn't a drawback. It just means that you've progressed to a point that the end chest has become exactly the endgame item that is qualified to be exactly what it is. Collecting mass amounts of eyes of ender isn't easy by any means.
Endermen are both infrequent in the overworld, and infrequently drop pearls, while blazes both have to be found (albeit once) and are a real pain to kill unless you build a grinder around a spawner. The enderpearls are the harder part to obtain, unless of course you've been to the end and come back, in which case there really isn't any point in complaining... killing the dragon, building an end farm, and a blaze farm fully qualifies you to have a backpack, in my opinion.
I play on a PvP/raiding server where you have to >donate< to get the ability to lock chests.
Per-player ender chests will probably reduce donations a lot, because now players will have a safe way to store their **** from other players without paying anything.
1. Then it's not really donating, the server admin is charging them a fee. It's called a micro-payment, and often referred to as a "Pay to Win" system.
2. Those servers will wait to update until they get their custom plugins updated.
3. Don't complain when an unofficial modification is broken because the core game was enhanced. Especially one designed to give specific players an advantage for things which they did not earn in the game.
While I like this version, I also liked the old one as well.
What I'd really want is two chests, one community and one per-person.
Perhaps just use a pearl for the community chest instead of an eye?
Eh well whatever, if it's not added I'll just continue to wait for the mod API and put it in myself.

Tis far better to be a witty fool than a foolish wit.
I'm actually quite unhappy that when you destroy an "Ender Chest", it drops obsidian rather than an "Ender Chest". It's just annoying and incosistant with chests. And if there's one thing I dislike in produced games or game development, it's inconsistancies... "Consistancy is key..."
Amen to this. Jeb destroyed something our familie server was looking forward to so much. We are all vanilla so please dont give me the "get a mod crap".
Gues its time for us to complain again?
What's wrong with mods? I've almost always used Ecu's Ender Storage mod. I think Jeb should just try to implement that. Maybe ask Ecu's permission first. The color code was the best, because you could have a public bank system on one frequency and still have your private chest network on another.
Best solution - Make an option to change it to public or private.
Or maybe use an item (ie: ender pearl) in game to access personal ender inventory space. Futhermore, the item can even be consumed upon use to nerf the ender chest even more.
Ive literally only had one tool with silk touch, and it was a shovel.
this change sucks, especially because I don't come across endermen all too often, or really have alot of blaze powder.
The chest being nerfed is unnecessary and it was fine how it was.
One word: Deserts. They always have the most mobs wandering around. If you don't have a lot of blaze powders just put cobblestone around a blaze spawner to where it's just a room and beat the blazes to death with a diamond sword, no fire resistance potion necessary.
Personally, I dislike this nerf very much. The only use I found in Ender chests was that I had more inventory room when mining, and building something a fair distance from my house. There have also been many new blocks that have come out and no new inventory size. I saw this as a fix to that problem but then they nerfed it and lets face it, at a certain stage in the game you have everything and you just want to build and mine with ease and having to go grab something then go grab something else all so you can do something which will be undone once you break it (Inless you use a silk touch pick which are a ***** to get and arn't always useful when mining) is not really worth your time.
Jeb please Fix this or make it more expensive to craft so by the time you can make it, it's actually worth your while.
I am fairly indifferent to the nerf, considering that the main use I had for Ender Chests was to establish new bases of operation, and not to backpack them around willy nilly. However, the loss of the communal storage is fairly upsetting, since I'm one of the people who play on a small server among trusted friends. This is why I am definitely in favor of any sort of notion that gives Ender Chests a dual private/public functionality, whether it's a single Ender Chest with tabs or a split GUI, or the suggestion of a communal double Ender Chest, regardless of item capacity (provided it's a decent size). I've tweeted both the tab and doublechest suggestions to Jeb, but I doubt he's seen them.
As for the complaints as to the nerf itself; I can see where one might be troubled by it, I didn't particularly think the chests were overpowered to begin with, but Eyes of Ender aren't too hard to get regardless. Either you obtain them the old fashioned way by obtaining the necessary crafting ingredients (Endermen can be killed from relative safety and will come to you if you look at them, and Blazes are just a matter of finding a Nether fortress and walling in a Blaze spawner for easy murder), or you find an NPC village and buy Eyes from a priest (emeralds, as the trading system is now, aren't too horribly difficult to get considering wheat, wool, and paper can be sold for a relatively decent price, somewhat offsetting the outrageous prices on the other goods).
There seems to be a quite serious bug with ender chests at the moment. I just checked my chest again and it was empty. It had contained two music discs. And no, this isn't the update bug, I already lost all my discs to that. Has anyone else had items vanish from the chest?

Silk Touch isn't a "***** to get" anymore. XP is the new coal.
I don't really like enderchests. They seem kinda cheap. Like they added them because they couldn't get minecarts working properly. So to transport stuff, across any distance, you now you need only craft two enderchests instead of putting some actual time and effort into developing a transport network.
Well, you could always use minecarts for transporting yourself and/or other mobs. As well, Ender Chests have limited capacity and can only transport one chestful of stuff (or less, if you keep other things in there at all times) at a time. So if you're moving a ton of stuff (or yourself) from one location to the other over any significant distance, Ender Chests don't really cut it, especially now that the communal feature was removed.

I welcome the enderchest changes. It makes them slightly less overpowered.
I probably will use them at some point but only because minecarts don't really work properly right now and there's no real way around it. I wish they'd put some effort into making minecarts properly usable instead of putting a sticking plaster over the problem by adding a magic chest.
Minecart supply networks aren't interdimensional like Enderchests. And the amount of time spent building a long distance, underground to surface, multibranched transport system seems like less of having fun than a boring waste of time and iron.

I love this change, but it seems a bit too easy as other opposing factions that you are raiding can just put there vaubles in a chest, no mega loots for the most part now.
