Now that they've added the ability to see other player's "cracks" on blocks when they mine, do you think they might implement co-operative mining?
For example, 2 players mining 1 block will decrease the time it takes to mine the block by calculating the mining speed of each players tool. I could see this being useful for specific blocks (obsidian for example) and possibly early game situations where you haven't crafted any high-tier tools yet.
This is actually something I've been wanting ever since I got the game, along with the ability to see other player's "cracks".
I would like this idea if mining wasn't done so quickly.
It's like the minecraft world is made of cardboard. You can mine through stone in about 0.3 seconds with an iron pick (Taken from the wiki).
That's digging through 4000 cubic meters of stone per Minecraft day, single-handedly, with an iron pick.
Not only is it unrealistic (Which is honestly a poor argument...), it is too fast. I think that TNT should blast through stone more effectively, and make mining take longer. Make it take at least 1.5 seconds to mine through stone with an iron pick, but I would honestly love it to take 2 or more seconds.
If mining took longer, then cooperative mining would matter. As it stands though, you can mine through a cubic meter of stone in less than half a second, making cooperative mining pointless.

I'd rather the game be unrealistic and fast than realistic and very slow. It just makes more sense
I see this useful for Obsidian, not much else. I don't want them to make mining slower at the cost of being realistic, it is a game after all.
Not even then. If you're mining more than one block, you can just each take a separate block. If you're only mining one block, then you'll be able to mine it by the time the other player gets there to help you. So it's really just 100% pointless.

Well look at it this way:
You're both mining a pocket of ores together, and you just happen to both target the same block. It'll speed up the process for the block, rather than you simply wasting time mining it, with no benefit whatsoever. Obviously this won't be a common occurence most likely, but when you think about it, it's the little features in games that really improve the overall experience. Maybe it's insignificant to you, but it's still a "Hey, that makes sense, and it's cool that they did that" type of feature.
For Obsidian, this would be great. If any other blocks were added that took forever to mine, it would be a really great feature. As it stands, I wouldn't mind it being in the game, but I wouldn't really care if it wasn't ever added.
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
I use the FTB modpack, because it's fun, and extremely convenient.
The only real use i foresee in this is having a group of people more easily infiltrate an obsidian armored building/base, which I don't really see as a boon considering how hard it is to build with the stuff.

What do you think? Pointless? Too complicated?
