I was thinking if the trip wire could be attached to a door or a trap door. This would help for say you open a door and immediately get shot. This could also work for splash potions. Those would also be very annoying to see in jungle temples, but more tricky. Also if trip wire could set off pistons to close a entry way. (This would be helpful for adventure maps) Say you trigger a trip wire, then pistons push blocks together to block your path. This is my thought of the new trip wire and more uses that It would really help me in.
There is someone who created a trip wire trap, in which when you defuse the wire with shears, it would cause TNT to explode. Walking through it without cutting it would set off no trap.
I really like the way you can place the tripwires in the air (dunno if this is intened or if it is a glitch) but I'd like to make a kind of maze of tripwires that you have to kind of carefully jump between.
That's intentional I think. I guess dinnerbone wanted to make tripwires suitably useful and different from pressure plates and this was one of the things he did to do this.
What's their interaction like with water/lava? Does it break the wire, flow over, or stop before the wire? If they flowed over the wire, that would be awesome. I'm guessing it breaks the wire, though.
Should there be a delay on tripwires? It seems like if you continue you walking you can avoid any harm from the trap due to the delay from the wire, especially with the fuse time on TNT.

If you're doing a TNT trap you could put one TNT under, one behind, and one in front so they have no where to go. I like that video's idea of keeping it on then putting an inverter, that's brilliant. Not only that, but you could put a non-triggered one behind it, so you would have to 'deactivate' both differently.
Get. Rid. Of. The. Hooks.
Tripwire is too hard to hide, and too obvious to make a good trap.
You can always hide the hooks, the hooks make it to where you have to be smart to use it correctly which I think makes Minecraft what it is.
Also: What if someone uses a texture pack where the wire is red blocks or something? I guess that's why a server texture pack would be uber important for survival servers.
